I would say it sets a new standard for remakes, but Resident Evil 1 remake on the Gamecube holds that crown in my eyes :). I'll pick this up when it's much cheaper. Combat Evolved is a lengendary game that changed console shooters forever, literally. It was magical and made me buy an XBOX.

a) it's a full-fledged remake, not a 'remastered' port
b) it's Halo so more people will click on it
play this back in 04-05 at someones house and love the game too. so I got the halo tripple pack and an xbox for birthday/christmas. good timesI would say it sets a new standard for remakes, but Resident Evil 1 remake on the Gamecube holds that crown in my eyes :). Yeah, at least Resident Evil 1 it looks better than most games that gen and still came out at an early in the gen as well. This seems to be an alright remake though still not the best one this gen I'd say (Based off what I'm seeing).I would say it sets a new standard for remakes, but Resident Evil 1 remake on the Gamecube holds that crown in my eyes :). It's good for what it is....A re-make. Which in this case, an 8 is a good score.
The graphics upgrade are amazing when you toggle between the original and new graphics. Even the original graphics look good now that they're in HD.
The multiplayer maps are good, and I'm currently enjoying playing the campaign on Co-op with my GF's brother.
They did an excellent job upgrading the game, and I would think that even the Halo haters tend to like the original game...But not since it released again they hate on it.
If you don't think it's worth the money, fine, but 343 did a great job upgrading the graphics and remastering the soundtrack. If you don't want to pay for it, atleast give it a rental. It's worth it, especially to relive some memories.
Why is anything reviewed? Because a significant number of people will want to buy it, and they'll want to know it's not completely broken or something. Why was this even reviewed?
Cherokee_Jack
I ask that because all other HD remakes don't get reviewed by GS, yet this one does.
FACT : chris waters reviewd this and WE ALL know how chriss gets excited with shooters , take a look at all his reviews. however this game got a n 8.0 from him.
Now lets replace chris with Tom Mcshea , a reviewer who does not care about hype and does not get excited. what WOULD we get??

[/QUOTE Well Halo anniversary is a remake and those have been known to make unwanted and wanted changes to games. On the other hand remasters are the same with minor tweaks. Why is anything reviewed? No, all other lazy HD remastered ports that do nothing more than bump up the resolution don't get reviewed. This is a full-fledged remake with completely new graphics + multiplayer. Big difference.Wait so they review this but not the ICO collection, sly collection, god of war collection and so on? why exactly?

Because this is more than a simple upscale with trophies.
And because Gamespot hates the PS3
I'll try replaying it some time... After my rage is over at all the bugs I seen in the game the first 30 mins I played. Really can't stand the elite glitch... Where they just stand there. Seen 6 of them doing that on the first level alone. Then the AI for the marines seems way worse then I remember. They don't even talk as much and only heard them say 3 differnent things out of like the 5-6 things I remember hearing them say. I get pop in with the graphics even when it's installed. 3D is a head ache litterally. All the 3D I seen and played... not once did I get a head ache. The jags and horrible res = eye bleeding 3D effects. There was delays in sound as well. Killed an elite and 3 seconds later it did it's death audio. First impressions mean alot and I feel like they really drop the ball on this remaster/remake. I would give it a 6 and slap a $15-$20 price on it.Truth_Hurts_U
Thank you for posting this, you just saved me from wasting my money!
You just proved that this 8.0 score that people are complaining about is actually still over-rated.
Halo 1 was never a perfect game, but honestly it was pretty dog-on solid (gamepay and excecuation aside from load-time hickups) and I could enjoy it.
All the crap you are talking about now (pop-ups retarded AI-bugs) are the same things that made me HATE halo 2 back in 2004 and stop buying into the fanboy hype of how good the game was be. Quality is quality in my book and you can't give a game with flawed execution and technical drawbacks the same score as a game that does not.
I actually would have give halo 2 (yeah the one that got a 9.4 here) a 6 because of all it's flaws...and that was back in 2004, I can't imagine how a game with flaws like this still manages to get an8 today. We really need to go back to a techinical gradeing scale and only have personal love or hate for a game to influence the score by only apoint or 2 at the most.
the score may be 8 but the review makes it sound like a perfect 9.5 the complaints were very minimal and the praise was through the roof. halo anniversary is a great release and i look really forward to playing it because i havent played CE since 2003. i played the first two leves with my friend at his house and i can honestly say even the old 2001 graphics still look pretty.

Truth_Hurts_U already pretty much confirmed that this game is less than the quality of score that it received.

The grading scale really needs to be reworked here on this site, this one comment told me more about the game that actually matters to me from a gameplay point of view than the actual review.
An 8 seems proper. It is pretty apparent that a remaster/reissue/whatever is not going to recieve the same score as it did in the past, which is fair. I'm glad for this as well, because as much as I like some of these remasters, I'm all for new games over old.
I'm going to cave in and buy this finally, I think. I'm on a component xbox, so I unfortunately will miss out on the 3D, but that is alright. My only gripe about this one is the goofy framerates. You'd think that a remaster would run smooth as silk.

pretty sure its already been confirmed that truth hurts hasn't actually played the game or own it or a 360 considering the fact he said its 30 dollars, and that it doesn't play at all like the original...which is just silly to make up something like that since its confirmed it plays EXACTLY like the original...hence why they kept the original game intact and just skinned it... GS is teh bias I tell ya since Halo CEA is AAA all the way !!
Good score but I do think a 9.0 would have been more accurate. :P

Actually it is a new engine that simulates the original, I believe. Apparently the Warthog physics aren't exactly right.

Yep.
And Halo: Reach > Killzone 2 and 3 and Resistance 1 2 and 3
9.5. So good...
SpiritOfFire117
And MGS4 > Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Reach, Halo ODST, Halo Wars
10 soooo awesome
Lems are always destined to lose :D
Frankly, MGS4 is a flawed mess that puts drawn-out cutscenes over gameplay. Plus it's not even the best in the series.
I agree it's not the best in the series but it is still better than all the 360 exclusive library combined in my book.

I'm not really entirely sure how determine what will and wont be reviewed. While DBZ isn't exactly the most popular series around I'm willing to bet general interest in a console Dragon ball game has been greater that this Black Water game but gamespot has skipped on revieiwing some of the major Dragon Ball console releases in the past.

I get the feeling part of it just is just based on how willibng the journalist are willing to cover the less essential games of the year.

That took longer than i thought it would lol
Keep in mind Halo has the Flood and the Library level. I really wish this included Halo 2 as well though. Please Log In to post.
