The only skill in counterstrike is how quick your aim is with the ak47/m4.

In Halo, aiming skill is important, but not enough. You must know how to take someone's shield down with energy weapons/grenades then pull out your rifle. You also need to know how to pilot various vehicles and how to neutralize those vehicles. Same thing in Battlefield. TF2 has a number of different classes, each is unique and useful for a different purpose. Even COD probably takes more skill than counterstrike.

Battlefield has horrible hit detection, but so does TF2 and CSS.

Fast aim, recoil controll, map knowlege, teamwork.

Not to mention all weapons feel entirely different, have different recoil and damage.

Also, camping in CS:S is not a tactic, if you camp, you can get 1 kill (if you're lucky) per round.

And before you scream "AWP" - sniping=/=camping. Being good with the AWP probably takes more skill than the weapons of all those 3 games combined.

no, recoil is not hard to manage, and even exists in halo, cs:s also is a bit excess making close encounters kind of random.

And close encounters in Halo aren't random at all.

Anyway, recoil is not hard to manage in CS:S, not 1.5, 1.6.

So, anything else you'd like to add?

May sound weird, but I don't like FPS games where aiming is top priority.
My aiming skills with mouse are never going to be as good as the average person. These few years I played over 1000 hours of FPS online, and still my aiming sucks a lot. I really prefer FPS games where the general idea you have, spotting, positioning and timing are more important than aiming.

well thats the only real thing you got with in that list that doesn't effect all games Fast aim, map knowledge, teamwork. is a plus for any game and straight camping is never a good strategy in most games, even CoD if you stay in one place too long, people will find you and kill you. Good "campers" move enough to keep the people they killed from finding them

None of them take SKILL.

They take PRACTICE.

I'm good at all FPS games, but only skilled at the ones I play until I'm better at. Sequels not withstanding, ie I'm skilled at all CoD games because theyhave literally beenthe same game for 4 years now (I'm not including CoD 1 and 2).

No they aren't. CS has had 10+ years of skill refinement, the others haven't been around long enough to require more skill. Your comment is common among CS dropouts.

Lol no.

TF2 I'm inclined to say takes more skill than CSS due to having to master the vertical axis as well as the arc and velocity of rockets/grenades and other weapons.

The problem i have with console fps is that they make the hitboxes bigger. Otherwise, skill in CS is all about who your playing against. TF2 and Battlefield are how you work with your team. Halo...well auto aim with huge hitboxes and half of the weapons have a large area of damage for weapons anyway, i do enjoy the game though...but saying it takes more skill than CS is just ignorant.

No offense TC but you sound like someone who has played CS for the first time, got absolutely walked on, then posted this on the forums to make CS out to require less skill than games you can probably play.

Halo and TF2 are a joke compared to CS, sorry.

I think TF2 is the only one on that list that can be considered in the same skill level as CS and that's only at the very top level of play. Seriously those guys are bloody amazing. Difference between even a good pub player and a pro in TF2 is pretty big let alone the average player and a pro.

Well i used to play CSS pretty seriously back in the day...and even though i barely play consoles or even pc multiplayer fps's anymore and i go play halo, cod, battlefield really basically any fps perhaps maybe quake and own easily after a few games. In comparison these games are simple...and the average quality of the players pales in comparision to CSS.

I've gotten pretty good at all of them( very good at Battlefield, Halo, and TF2) and I would disagree... kind of because of how I've left CSS out of the 'very good' mix. In all of those games I eventually got proficient at scoring a lot of points and managing a 1.5-2:0 KD ratio. In CSS, I would go on a roll for a little and then dip back down to maybe a little over 1.

Uh, yeah. That's the point. In Counterstrike you don't kill somebody because you play a certain class that's good against another certain class or because you pilot the most powerful vehicle on the map. Or because your perks give you an unfair advantage. Or because you unlocked the mega gun that not everybody else has access to. You kill somebody because you're better than him. With a glock if neccessary.

ChubbyGuy40
BF2's hit detection is fine. It's highly dependent on stance, movement, and how well you control your fire. If you use a machine gun over very long range, you can see the tracers fly through the air and where they hit, including when they hit an enemy. It's pretty cool to see the round in flight then slam into somebody and kill them.

When people talk about skil based shooters, they generally refer to the act of shooting, and only shooting.

With Counter Strike, you have nothing but your gun and your wits. No hit markers, no perks, no classes or vehicles.

Personally I love it, but I have to admit that it gets old quick without the variety of other shooters. That's the price you pay for a pure skill shooter I guess, too much content can be hard to manage and keep it fair for all.

When i can jump in and do fine in halo (even against some friends that play way more than me), no way in hell can it take a lot of skill.

TF2 i've played forever and sometimes i still have cold streaks in public servers (sometimes its also my team, but getting started in tf2 without playing the demo class and camping takes time

Battlefield requires teamwork, and i played it without teamwork but it took time to get used to (besides spawncamping)

Counterstrike kills me. It's just insane. No matter how much i play, i cannot win or get a presentable K/D ratio

Here's a hypothetical question for you: imagine a FPS with perfect auto-aim; if someone is on screen, you can hit them. Would everyone have a 1.0 KDR and WLR? Or would players find some other way to differentiate themselves, and if so, what would some of those ways be? Map knowledge? Item control? Flanking?

It takes little skill to be average at the game. Yet looking back at Halo 3 only a tiny bit of the population was skill level 50. You had to have a ton of skill, map knowledge, and accuracy to make it there.

Yes, but the level of competition is higher in CS which makes it harder in reality. People have been playing it forever so they're insanely good at it, and there's nothing to even things up for newcomers.

Really? I think it is:

CSS>>>>Halo>TF2>Battlefield.

You say Halo takes the least amount of skill because you can jump into a game and do good. Well if you have any sort of past FPS experience at all you can jump into any game and do good.

Again I could take your logic and apply it to TF2. I can jump into a TF2 game and do great (even against players that play many more hours than I do), no way in hell it can take a lot of skill.

Battlefield is the same way as TF2 and Halo, I can jump in a do great. However imo the niche skill level (ie top level skill) is much higher in Halo then it is in TF2 or Battlefield. Which is why I see Halo as a more skill-based game.

Counterstike however is in a league of its own. Not sure how one could argue that it takes less skill than those three games.
