I agree with OP. Hardly any FPS's come close to the draw that Halo does, and I'm not saying those games are bad, and I can't exactly pinpoint what makes Halo so amazing. But something about it just clicks and makes everything fun where most other's don't do the same.
Also an fyi for you guys, it is hard to take anybody or their opinions seriously if they can't spell. (Example standards spelled "standerds")
[QUOTE="gamedude234"][QUOTE="millerlight89"]I say no, I think Half life is much much better. millerlight89
fair enough i guess. the thing i think halo wins against half-life though is the story and the multiplayer.
Half Life has a wonderful story, I did not think Halo's characters or world for that matter was anywhere near up to Half-Life standerds. As for multiplayer.... I won't comment because technically HL does not have it, though I think CS is basically its multiplayer component.Half-Life 2 does have Multiplayer.......Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. you get it for free on steam (all you do is register you GFX card, i foolishly bought my copy).
[QUOTE="Zoso-8"]It's up there, but it went downhill after the first.nitromuffinyeah 3 was just a little above average, the formula got stale after 3 of the same games Hate to break it to you but Reach is shaping up to bring Halo back to its glory days.. As if it LEFT those days, lol.
because its a EZ mode casual shooter is what made the halo series so popular. you think WoW is the best MMO? you can reach max level in 2 weeks and it runs on a 10yr old computer. There are way better MMOs out thereI agree with OP. After you meet 343 Guilty Spark in Halo: Combat Evolved the game felt like it was beating a dead horse.

What on earth are you talking about, do you even know ?
How is it "beating a dead horse" ?
Well they padded out the other half of the game with recycled and repetitive levels. And you don't fight against the impressive AI displayed by the Covenant most of the time but rather against brainless zombies that charge at you.

I forgot about that. Well I would rather CS be the multiplayer component tbh lol. So by changing up the enemies it was beating a dead horse ... ok ...
Assault on the Control Room and Two Betrayals are some of my favourite levels in Halo CE so the recycling didnt bother me one bit as there was purpose to it.
And thats after i dunno 20 odd playthroughs, say what you will about Halo 2 and 3 but Halo CE is a beast.

prove, not proof. But, halo probably has the best hardest difficulty because instead of just making everyone overly powerful and accurate(cough, CoD), it provides an excellent balance to make a hard but very fair difficulty.
[QUOTE="Domobomb"] You have never played a halo game have you?No, Halo just rips off Starship Troopers.
gammon56
Yeah, mjolnir suit rips the marauder suit from ST, and Halo marines are exact copies of Mobile Infantry from the movies. Alot of parallels in the story also. You might as well replace the covenant with bugs, and you got the same thing.

If Halo is influenced by any movie its Aliens (Sgt. Johnson = Apone, Marines = very similar to Aliens marine wear, even the weapons vehicles bear some resemblence etc.), And the covenant are nothing like the bugs in ST.
I'm a huge fan of the original ST and Halo, there's barely any parallels (not saying there's none).

Too bad Forever is never coming out.
Wow! There was really no reason for that. :(not cool.
What do you mean? Didn't you know it was cancelled? The whole studio collapsed nearly. The projecy is pretty much done

Terrible story, average gameplay, its just an average game overall.Halflife, Deus ex, CS, Quake, Duke Nukem, L4D, Red faction, Team fortress, Serious Sam, System shock, Bioshock, and a few more are much better franchises

Its a great challenge fighting hordes of various zombies like in Left 4 Dead, especially co-op. This is the failed argument used most by people that obviously just don't get it.[QUOTE="Vesica_Prime"][QUOTE="Snugenz"]

Because anyone in my opinion who knows how do hold down a button can easily kill a horde.
And what do you mean 'just don't get it' and 'failed argument', I've played Halo: Combat Evolved and I found the Flood parts to be the most boring part of the game. Especially when they have horrible maps like the Library all I had to do was dodge, grenade, and hold down fire.

Then stop playing baby difficulty? The Flood types vary quite a lot and each had their own tactics. What you describe sounds like someone deliberately playing without a care.[QUOTE="Vesica_Prime"][QUOTE="tomarlyn"] Its a great challenge fighting hordes of various zombies like in Left 4 Dead, especially co-op. For your information, I played it on Hard.

I'm not angry at all, just confused and a little ''*facepalm*'' at the excuses people come up with. But nit-pick away thats fine :)
Try insane (thats what I call it, not Legendary), and co-op while you're at it.
No. Maybe on consoles, but certainly not on PC. CoD and CoD2 on the PC are two quintessential FPS games, where as Halo:CE isn't IMO.
From what I've played of it, I wouldn't put it in my top ten. I was rather irritated at the fact that the UNSC has some of the most moronically conceived technology in sci-fi history, what with their tanks having tiny vulnerable turrets, expecting to successfully use 4.7mm submachineguns against targets that can shrug off 7.62mm assault rifle fire, guns that don't have sights (probably explains why the Covenant were able to beat them so handily on the ground) and their refusal to mass-produce manportable gauss weapons despite being able to make those MACs of their which are about a million times more massive.
