Halo- best FPS franchise ever?

It's one of the best.

From what I've played of it, I wouldn't put it in my top ten. I was rather irritated at the fact that the UNSC has some of the most moronically conceived technology in sci-fi history, what with their tanks having tiny vulnerable turrets, expecting to successfully use 4.7mm submachineguns against targets that can shrug off 7.62mm assault rifle fire, guns that don't have sights (probably explains why the Covenant were able to beat them so handily on the ground) and their refusal to mass-produce manportable gauss weapons despite being able to make those MACs of their which are about a million times more massive.

Barbariser

1. Scorpions had machine guns as secondary weapons in Halo 1 and 2 rather than a second turret.
2. Those enemies have energy shields.
3. There are sights, just not implemented in gameplay.
4. The Cobra featured in Halo Wars would like to have a word with you.

I voted kinda. I mean not only the Bungie Halo franchise is a commercial success but it's been consistent with AAA reviews here on GS and critically acclaimed else where.

Great story and Universe.

Fun campaigns (Especially CE and ODST)

And the best multiplayer around.

apparently LBP2/MNR are the best of their genres for having editors.

so Halo is the best FPS ever because Forge has been instilled into the latest edition of Halo.

Halo is a dumbed down simplified console FPS, it's a fun game but to give a game so much credit when it's such a simple game... Think about it, just now in 2010 are they adding things like sprint, and people are like ohh now Halo feels fresh.. Give me a break.N00bTuber

If Halo is influenced by any movie its Aliens (Sgt. Johnson = Apone, Marines = very similar to Aliens marine wear, even the weapons vehicles bear some resemblence etc.), And the covenant are nothing like the bugs in ST.

Just checked up on the book and you have a good point, there's a good chance the games (universe) story was influenced by the novel. Particularly the multi alien race (Arachnids and Covenant) and the powered armor.

I wouldnt say it "rips" off anything, could it be an influence?, yeah as much as plenty of other movies/books as i've shown before with the "Aliens" influences.

No game has done more or meant more for FPS shooters than the Halo series. It's legendary.

Hard to argue it doesn't deserve its place on the throne, but the same could be said for HL or Doom in a lot of others opinion bottomline Halo is a top 3 franchise and has certainly left a mark on the gaming world.
