Halo CE was special dammit!!!

I know many people claim that the halo sieres is "over hyped" and "justmore generic shooters", and to some extent yea mybes halo 2 did lose some of the sparkle in the campaign (tho not on live, hell no!), butfor all the "it was the only game on Xbox" bs that goes around halo CE was a truley amazing shooter.

Before i played this game i had only dabbled in gaming, i had a playstation and played games like starwars jedi power battles and jurassic park (i liked being the velociraptor :P), and my only pc game was unreal tournement, which i played the single player thruan left alone (only had 56k back then and didnt like lag). It was just after christmas an i went 2 one of my mates house who had this new "xbox" thing an this "class game" as he put it. The first thing we did was play the silent cartographer thru on cooperative an that was all it took i was hooked!!

To be honest halo was one of the only games that really managed to get me hooked! (oblivion and football manger were others), it was that fun of a game. Im one of these jaded "iv played every shooter since wolfenstein 3d" types who pick apart its every little problem an if you approach it from a fresh perspective it truely was amazing. I havnt played a shooter since which i have been as addicted to. I played it through on every difficulty on coop an it was the best thing since sliced bread.

Granted halo 2 wasnt as good. not by a long shot (campaign wise) as i never really felt the need to play it through more than once (whereas i could probz list all the levels of halo ce off the top my head) but i soon discovered xbox live and i was away again.

at the end of the day say what you like about the halo series, but to me it will always be my favourite shooters, and as much as the pc may or may not have better ones (i dont really no) hermits should stop trying to sully its great name!!

No good games? It was a launch game people its not like the Xbox was starving foe something for months and months to make it a legitimate system and Halo came and saved it.

I just played Halo CE again last night randomly and I enjoyed it even more now knowing more of the back story. There are sutle things said here and there than I can now look at knowing the full idea or almost full idea of whats going on. I also really enjoyed the AI a lot, it has some great moments at times. I especially liked the parts where you could try to sneak through the entire part by killing all of the enimes silently.

Halo may not be the best game ever but it definatly diserves the praise its gotten, before it was released it was thought to be a horrible game due to showings at E3, but when released it blew everyone away. So overall Halo 1 was not hyped at all so it was truely a great game, now I cant say the same for Halo 2 but it was atleast a good game but not close to Halo 1 for me.

When I played Halo on the PC I had a good time and it certainly has some great gameplay moments. But the game doesn't compare to so many PC shooters and I don't see why it is so incredibly popular.meggido

but thats what im trying to explain! haloon the xbox was just classic, it was the experience! sitting there with a friend whilst you battled through assault on the control room, fighting across the bridges on legendary an trying to avoid banshee as they swooped in the for the kill, to be honest iv never player a single player shooter with a campaign to match it!! and halo twos multiplayer was amazing as well! i played a bit of tournement when got broadband but every1 played this wiered one hit kill mod and were soo bloody good that u lasted about three seconds (probz coz they spend lyk 300 hours a week or woteva on it). Halo was one of those games where the skillful were skillfull an would lash you but the noobs could actually improve there game!

Hermits will never understand the appeal of Halo because they've had much better FPSes to play. This is coming from a hardcore hermit-turned-shemming. I still disdain Halo's gameplay, although I'll admit that there are few games that can match its cinematic presentation and the epic scale of its environments (even if those environments were shoot-me-in-the-head-now repetitive and confined to purely aesthetic appeal.)

The game was revolutionary and the grenade, two weapon system, melee is now the standard.hazuki87

Grenade, two weapon system and melee have been there for years prior to it.. The only thing new it had was shields.. Its not to say it wasn't a good game because it was (though I personallyu was not fond of it).. It was special for consoles not the FPS genre.

yes but like what tho? i never played one that i thought was as good! im sure halflife was class but i only ever played the demo after id been addicted to halo and so to me the graphics were dated so i didnt fancy it as much. Im sure it was a epic game an all that but it was before my time. Iv not played its sequal either so i cant judge but it has to be amazing to beat halos campaign on sheer replayability!!

Bingo. People like to be blind sided and not give Halo CE recognition for what it's done for the console FPS. It's funny because I want to see just how much Killzone 2 adopts from Halo.

Halo is alright, I enjoyed the beta for 3. Maybe thats because I never played 1 or 2 since I was an extreme cow, but I bought my 360 and decided to give the beta a try and it was pretty fun. Its addictive, definitely nowhere near best FPSs of all time gameplay wise though.

Actually yeah. Halo:CE was pretty damn special, sure you have Half Life, System Shock 2, Deus Ex (Especially Deus Ex!) and possibly Goldeneye but what made Halo special wasnt what it brought to the FPS genre but instead what it refined.

Console games had the tendency to be insuperior to PC games (Some people would still argue that it still is) but Halo refined the controls for dual analog making it comfortable and also worth mentioning that Halo had an open ended environment that gives you much more option and room to strategize and also stealth through several enemy guards and enemies which was impossible for games like Half Life. The weapons were fun to use and overall Halo was just fun to play which was the prime reason why Halo has a large following. Worth noting that Halo alsocreated shield system which was totally new.

Sure, Halo isnt as revolutionary as some lemmings praise it to be but with that aside, what Halo did to the console FPS genre it definitely placed it's mark in history.

speak for yourself. IMO Fun Factor Mario 64 > Halo. I always tend to have a lot of fun with Mario games. I do agree that Halo is special, it was the first console shooter where they offered so much that I thought could only be possible in Pc shooters.

you see iv played on goldeneye on the nintendo 64 and 2bh i hated it! i couldnt get a hang of the controls. I think the control pad for the 64 was dodgy enough but u can get by with racers. On a shooter its just too damn hard! which another aspect where halo excels!

How exactly does a console having no good games actually make a game better? Just because the xbox didn't have any good games does not change the fact that Halo CE is rated as one of the best games ever created.

Agree with TC. I don't care what hermits say there was nothing like HALO CEbefore HALOand its huge success on consoles AND PC are proof its one of the all time great FPS if not THE all time great FPS.JiveT

Halo was a launch title. Get your facts straight.

No offense but your post pretty much sums it up. You say you had only dabbled in gaming and you were blown away by Halo, and then you talk about how the people that have played many FPS hate on it.

Halo wasn't a bad game but it really wasn't that great either. Don't get me wrong the multiplayer was fun but the single player was just above average.

aha but CEs multiplayer was naff! i never had any lan parties or wotever so all i played was the campaign an that was the part that was epic and amazing! halo 2 was the one that relied on multiplayer! but i would argue that halo was great in the fact it turned some1 who wasnt really interested in gaming into an enthusiast, such was its power over people.
