Halo: Combat Evolved remake coming this holiday

Joystiq has learned that the previously rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved will indeed launch this holiday season for Xbox 360 with a full visual overhaul. Sources explain that the re-release is not Bungie's 2001 Xbox game simply running at a higher resolution -- it's being remade with new art assets. While Halo's audio will likely remain unaltered, the controls will allow for more recent Halo configurations.

The Halo: Combat Evolved remake is allegedly being developed by New Jersey-based Saber Interactive, the company behind Timeshift and Namco's upcoming Inversion, but we've been unable to confirm the nature of the engine powering it. We understand that it's something other than the Reach engine.

The Halo: Combat Evolved update, one of two Halo games currently in development under the watchful eye of 343 Industries, is expected to support 1080p resolution and 3D televisions. Details on multiplayer are supposedly still being worked out, but we understand the remake will likely feature online co-op (the original game supported two-player split-screen co-op).

The game is expected to re-evolve on November 15, 2011, ten years after Halo: Combat Evolved launched alongside the Xbox. Our sources didn't know of any plans to similarly upgrade the recently disconnected Halo 2, but it's hard to imagine Microsoft playing favorites with its biggest franchise.

I'm skeptical. I thought I'd consider buying a Halo CE remake from 343, but was worried about maybe ruining the nostalgia & sort of tarnishing Halo CE for me. However, for some reason, I had faith in 343 Industries. Why give the project to Saber Interactive? Also, why release a Halo title with multiplayer a year after Reach? It could divide the community.... Halo isn't (or shouldn't be) CoD.

i really hope it's just the single player campaign and no multiplayer

it'd be dumb for another halo MP game to come out one year after reach....each online halo MP game has gotten at least a good 3 years before another one came out

They have a lot to fix seeing as the single player was plagued with copy and pasted level design.. And for multiplayer some guns and vehicles are grossly overpowered (Shotgun, Scorpion tank, and pistol). sSubZerOo

weapon damage is spot on for every gun. thousands and thousands of people play this game online everyday and love it just the way it is. why mess with perfection?

As for the last part, thats not a bad thing.

After Halo:CE, weapons have been weakened and pu**y down to "pellet guns", it pissed off alot of fans (myself included) of the original.

So, instead of demanding interesting and fun new IPs, lemmings have been demanding a full priced remake of a game that came out just last generation that is probably (not completely sure if it is, as I don't own a 360) still playable on the current gen console?

For what it's worth, the PC versions of both Halo CE and Halo 2 still have a sizeable online following. Halo 2 even has Live integration.

Halo PC lag is ridiculous. You have to lead your shot by like a mile.

Nobody plays Halo 2 Vista anymore either. There were only about 3 games when I played it during the Summer. One was a 32 player FFA, the other was a 4v4 SWAT with atrocious spawns (got 3 killionaires back-to-back-to-back) and a Covy Flag played on some map I can't even remember. It was really boring since every Covenant weapon sucked in H2 besides the Plasma Pistol, by itself it sucked but if you had it with a BR it was godly.

I'd much rather see a new take on the Halo universe. Doubt I'll pick this up.
