The legacy of Halo as a series doesn't come anywhere near Metroid...
Metroid revolutionized game design at several different points in gaming history, with Metroid in the late 80s, Super Metroid in the mid-90s, and Metroid Prime in the early 2000s. In comparison, Halo's impact is largely limited to the early 2000s.
Both..seriously. Although the first Metroid is in my all time greatest games catagory and Halo isn't.
Halo series all the way for me.
Last Metroid game I actually had fun was on SNES, and the others on the GBA. I just preferred them in 2D.
Played Metroid Prime, and everything that made that game phenominal was greatly marred by a lack of a decent checkpoint/save system, couple that with respawning enemies (though a trademark for the franchise) didn't quite help make the game fun at all either.
And I didn't like the control scheme either.
[QUOTE="millerlight89"]Halo, Metroid is zzzzzzzzzzzzzzArbiterisl33t69The irony is strong in this post. No irony, maybe to you and other Metroid lovers, but not me. Metroid is pure boredom to me.
Metroid and is not even a contest, Halo is just your average boring shooter who thanks to its multiplayer gained its recognition, while most Metroid games have probably some of the best atmospheres in the whole industry.

Obviously not strong enough. I can't see it
[QUOTE="Jag85"]There is no question: One is among the greatest games ever created, and a masterpiece of atmosphere, storytelling, mechanics, and level design. The other is Halo 2. Which at the time was one of the most fun multiplayer games on the market. Admittedly that game had to compete with Unreal 2k4 and Counter Strike Source, but I'd argue it held up just fine. Glitches and all.Reminds me of 2004... when FPS fans would argue over whether Halo 2 or Metroid Prime 2 is the better game.

Half Life 2 was released in the same year as well ya know...
And what's up with people calling Metroid atmospheric? To be fair, I've only played the 2 on the Wii, but I couldn't find anything 'atmospheric' in the games at all.

Normally I'd go straight for the easy Half Life 2 jab, but the follow up stuff. You are on crack.Halo series v Metroid prime series...
Halo wins. The only thing Metroid Prime has good in is some decent atmosphere.
And only Metroid Prime was good.
But obviously, the old school Metroid Prime games are the better than the GC ones.
Metroid Prime 3 ain't so good either.
Halo's story and online is enough to warrant more interest and playability.
well both sucks but if i have to pick one MetroidYes,one of those those threads.
Which franchise do you prefer, and why?
I'll go with Metroid for gameplay and atmosphere.
But Halo has a better story.

Prime 2 perhaps?
Well if we go by gamespot
Halo (9.7) + Halo 2 (9.4) + Halo 3 (9.5) = 28.6
MP (9.7) + MP2 (9.1) + MP3 (8.5) = 27.3
Therefore Halo is better
And people saying Halo was only a success for its multiplayer are wrong. Sure LAN parties were awesome, as was splitscreen but there was no XBL, Halo was just as successful due to its brilliant campaign.

Both of the first 2 prime games have excellent atmosphere for what both experiences are trying to convey.Both. For completely different reasons.

This is a pretty good answer I have to say.
If I am in mood for some exploration, sequence breaking, quality boss battles, atmosphere, an engrossing, subtle world, and subtle storytelling I will pick Metroid.
If I am in mood for some action and high quality multiplayer, I pick Halo.
They are both good games, but for different reasons.
Halo in just about every way :o just a couple like on & off line versus and co-op give Halos way more value and lets see, 5 FPS Halos and 5 AAAE's with a 6th coming late this year that could be the best of the bunch.
Yeah, Halos Rock Way Harder !! :P

Why is it that you always downplay games you know absolutely nothing about? What "old school prime games" are better than the GC ones. METROID PRIME STARTED ON GC.
And all Metroid has is atmosphere? That top notch level design means nothing? Those awesome boss battles?
Really man, its like every time you type, diahrea comes flowing from your finger tips.
Just because you havent played a game doesnt mean its not good. Just because you played a game doesnt mean its the greatest thing ever. Its so obvious that you dont even play a small fraction of the games that you bag on.
Halo is an FPS. Metroid has transitioned from side-scrolling Metroidvania (yes, it has a genre with its own name) to First Person Adventure and back to side-scrolling Metroidvania. It's like comparing shoes to clouds.
But, if I had to choose my favorite franchise, Metroid. I think the games are better and more unique than Halo.

'old school prime games'. Hahaha. At first there was Metroid, Super Metroid and the other games in the series, then came a sub-series called 'Metroid Prime' (it started on the GC, with two titles, and finished on the Wii, with Metroid Prime 3). There is no 'old school prime'.
I have to agree with sandbox3d, you're talking sh** about things you have no clue about.
This thread is like punching a baby, it's fun at first but eventually gets boring. They just can't fight back effectively.
Me and my friends were playing Metroid Prime when we were twelve... Anyway, they're pretty different but I'd go Halo. Love the muliplayer and ever since Metroid Prime 2 Samus being a girl has been flaunted way too much and it just hasn't been as atmospheric.Metroid b/c is has a better story and doesn't have annoying 12 yearolds plus samus would kill master chief's ass

Metroid basically because of 2 reasons (to keep things simple):
-There are more games that are kind of like Halo. (Metroid is more unique.)
-I prefer the Metroid universe. (Halo universe doesn't feel complete and alien enough.)

I'm sure that Metroid doesn't qualify as an Adventure game. Probably it's a mecha game since you control a robot.
