After playing the short Killzone 2 demo, i still personally think if u played 007(N64) u played them all. 007 gameplay was gameplay style was so orginal. before 007, who ever heard of FPS? anyway, i have to play Call Of Duty 4/WAW since i never played them before. By looking at the videos, it seems those games have great level design.

So as of now 3rd Person shooters>>>>>> 1st person Shooters.

Half Life/Counter Strike series, Halo, Perfect Dark, those are either almost as good, on par or maybe even better.

Well considering how PD was a clone of 007 except bond was in the future as a girl i say PD wins, but its rly almost a tie. Rare just improved 007 a bit. You see what mean? Same game different people and more to do.

Just because my tastes are different does not mean I started gaming now. I think Halo did a lot for the FPS series. It sounds like your letting nostlagia get in the way of your thinking.

You ever heard of the Doom games? Or maybe Duke Nukem 3d, Quake, or Wolfenstein 3d? All incredibly popular FPS's before the release of Goldeneye.

I started in 93 when I got an SNES for my birthday along with Super Mario World. I missed out on the N64 because I had a Playstation, but I know how important the Goldeneye games were to console FPS'es. My first FPS though was Rainbow Six when that came out and that game floored me.

The gameplay in Goldeneye is just plain bad now.

And it wasn't so great back when it was new either.

The framerate was bad, and the N64 controler ruined the experience.

Hey, I started in 1993 as well, I played NEs then Sega Genesis and so forth and I had both an N64 and PS1. Oddly enough, GoldenEye 007 was the 1st FPS I played and got me into the genre.

Here comes the "It's only nostalgia" argument.

I am not asking you to go back and play every single FPS that came out before 1999. You think Halo is this wonderful thing? Fantastic. It's a great game. All I am asking is that you respect the games that came before and led the path. To simply write old games off and label anyone who likes them as being purely nostalgic is foolish at best.

Single analogue was bad.

All of those FPS games on the N64 would have been so much better if they where made for the PSX and the original dualshock.

But it was playable. And it was enjoyable. I am not saying single is better than dual, it's not. But some people act like single cannot be enjoyed and that's just wrong.

LOL man, I love the old games. I did not come here to bash any old games. The TC asked if anything has surpassed 007 and gave him my opinion out of many. Halo. In my opinion Halo has surpassed 007 in every way. Of course its just my opinion. Crysis, Resistance 2, 007 for gamecube have also passed that game to me. BTW, you guys started gettin angry at me just because I thought a current era game was better than a past gen game. I in no way said 007 sucks halo all the way.

The real question is whether or not an FPS will surpass Goldeney or Perfect Dark for that matter in details.

Hit reaction animations of the enemies, and shooting guns out of hands are just two aspects of the said games that have yet to be replicated in 'modern' shooters.

I agree! Sometimes I wonder if half of SW started gaming last gen or something. Nobody seems to know their roots!

I bet many of the people on here are in that 14-16 range and were not playing games during that time.

Just because my tastes are different does not mean I started gaming now. I think Halo did a lot for the FPS series. It sounds like your letting nostlagia get in the way of your thinking.

Alot of people do that these days....
