Has GTA been dethroned?

just cause 2 has some very high points but still needs alot of improvement. some parts of the game are just amazing wheras gta 4 was average throughout. gta 4 does everything well but nothing exceptional imo

As fun as other sandbox games are, none can beat the GTA series. They started it and keep redefining sandbox gaming.

Sure Saints Row is a blast, but it lacks polish and story. Mafia II might be polished and have an alright story, but its incredibly linear and short and unsandboxy.

Face it, GTA IV covered almost every aspect of sandbox gaming and what it didn't, the expansions did. Crazy fun with weapons? BoGT. More linear drama? TLaD.

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but anyone who doesn't like GTA IV is either not mature enough to appreciate the changes and improvements to the formula it had over previous (much more shallow) games, or is trolling, in my opinion.

I like RDR much more, but I wouldn't say EVERYTHING better.

I mean, it doesn't do aerial combat better. So... there's that. Though I do prefer the gameplay, side missions and combat of RDR myself, as well as the amazing story.

Yes trash. When GTA had sexual or suggestive themes in it, they were in there for a purpose. I watch the debut gameplay for Saint's Row 3 and what do I see? A giant purple penis on display begging me to laugh. The developers are trying way too hard and there is really no purpose. Next, the player is punching npc's in the balls. That is the showcase and first impression they want to have. The thing that makes GTA special is the ability to switch between serious and over-the-top. They have a message behind many of their actions. They make a serious effort to include a gay man as a major character. When they do have male nudity they don't find every publisist on the planet and point it out. I'm not saying that GTA calculates every move it makes, but many are done with thought and reasoning behind them.

I'm a PC gamer and GTA IV was a very very bad console porton PCon top of which was terribly optimised on PC. So any game which doesn't screw up the gameplay and is fun is better than GTA IV. Just Cause 2 owns GTA IV anyday.

I really find the premise of saint's Row to be dumb. Don't get me wrong I love fun games. Just Cause 2 was very fun. I just think Saint's Row tries to be fun and ends up on the dumber side.

Yep. Unlike reviewers, I wasn't offended at Halo jokes, toilet jokes, or women jokes. I played it and love it for what it is, not for what others wanted it to be.

Only GTA game that was worth a damn was San Andreas. GTA4 is the worst in the series.

The only controls that don't suck are the helicopters. Rest of it is definitely suck though.
