Has Microsoft given up?

The 2009 Xbox lineup is pretty much all due Q4, and there isn't a whole lot on the exclusive front. I think they dropped the ball this year.

Oh wow, so the second it looks like another company has the better lineup, the opposing company has semingly given up? If ths were true, Sony would have "given up" 3 times now.

BTW if anybody has given up it's been Nintendo, look at their pretty much non-existent wii 2009 lineup.

When I say 'given up' I mean this...

I think Microsoft's strategy for the remainder of the 360's lifecycle is aggresive costs cuting of the hardware, multiplats and DLC. I don't think they have much planned in terms of exclusives. I think the main reason for this is that DVD optical media is really starting to constrain developers and a such the PS3 with its Blu-ray drive is more appealing, and the fact that the Xbox is pretty much tapped out. I mean do the best games from 2008 look significantly better than those from 2006 on the Xbox? It's clear that the RROD issue means that Microsot is sitting on a ticking timebomb of liability, nobody knows how many of the consoles currently ut there ill fail in the next year or so. The fact that even Jasper's seem to be experiencing RROD problems suggests that this problem is so endemic that Microsoft's engineers just can't fix it, there is a fundamental design flaw that they simply cannot address. As such I believe Microsoft is looking to get the next Xbox out the door ASAP, and the lack of commitment from developers to the platform kinda confirms this.

Don't for get last year Epic announced GeOW2 at GDC so I wouldn't be surprised if the lems get a newly announced game this week. Then again it seems MS has the silly strategy of buying exclusivity and EDLC, and it's looking like the buying of exclusive games isn't really working anymore.

I would love to see the execs at MS running around trying like hell to buy exclusivity of any decent game they can get, but hey they own the Halo IP.
