This is a question that Gamers by nature asks and wrote a short writing about it . it's true that this question is asked by Gamers by nature, but you can answer it in this thread :P
and the article:
Hi, my name is BranchedOut, and I'm easily startled in games.
I recently picked up the PC game, Singularity. And I have to take a break. I'm just too easily startled! I play on PC, with the mouse sensitivity on high. This game takes a cue from Dead Space (another title I LOVE, but have to take breaks from) and puts you in a creepy setting. Well, things pop out, and I jump. My arm moves, and so dose my mouse. Suddenly, I'm looking at the floor. I'm getting walloped on while I reorientate myself, and by the time I CAN kill it, it's already killed me!
Sure, you can say this never happens to you, internet tough guy. But me? I'm easily startled. When alone. But throw a friend in there, and all of a sudden my startleability plummets! I don't know what it is, really. Safety by numbers?
But I have to take a break from this game, for right now. It's a fun little shooter, blowing things heads off (though, AFTER they pop out and scare you). But I can't say TOO much…. Because I've only played so little… I played for maybe 30 minutes. After killing some non-scary humans, I decided, "Break time!" I'll probably take another go tommorow.
I don't know when games took on this form of thriller aspect. Was it at the start of 3D gaming, where you could look left and right, and BAM! Something could pop out? Or was it in the PS2 era, where graphics were good enough to where it could surprise you due to realism? Whatever the case, Dear Developers: Our love-hate relationship is finicky, but I'll stay with you. It's a slow burn, but it smolders fantastically!
END OF WRITING
Pesonally, I uninstalled original Silent Hill because it was too scary and I couldn't handle it. but I might go and start it again someday...
What about you?
