The original F.E.A.R. There were times when I thought I was going to have a heart attack.

I know, that game has some "HOLY **** WTF WAS THAT?!" moments.

That game was incredibly dull. If you had watched The Ring before hand, it all felt so unoriginal and forced....

Dead Space. I chipped away at that game only able to stomach one level at a time before I'd need a nightlight and a straightjacket.

The Penumbra games are the only games that has made me do this. Everything else is a gumdrop rainbow parade for me.

indeed, Black Plague was especially horrifying because you had no means of fighting back. Near the end of the game I could only play for 10 minutes at a time before i had to take a break for a little while.

Dead Space actually did the same, that damned invincible mutant that regenerated limbs was pretty terrifying to fight, but the rest of the game was fine, if not unnerving.

I was playing Dead Space one time in the middle of the night during a snow storm, and it seems that even in the City snow mutes all sound, so it was absolutely dead silent. I had the lights off and headphones on, such a great experience, i was on edge the entire time. one of my fondest gaming memories (even though i was extremely tense the entire time).

Project Zero (aka Fatal Frame)ohthemanatee

I simply could not finish this game, it really is scary. The weird camera angles, the fact you control a relatively helpless girl whose only weapon is a camera, the eerie sounds, everything is just really scary.

Also, Doom 1 and 2, after some time playing I would need a break, especially after those nerve-wrecking maps that were almost pitch black or with flashing lights.

Playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R: SOC one night, I was exploring an abandoned steelworks. I realised I was being stalked by a Bloodsucker, it made me very nervous and reluctant to continue deeper into the dark underground passages. I felt I had to save my game and turned it off to resume at a later time. No game has ever had that effect on me.

Yes, STALKER can be quite disturbing. The labs you have to go to are pretty creepy.
