On consoles / PC: yes, I lost faith, FF13/14 and LR are just horrible, SO and IU (guess thanks to TriAce xD) was at least average. The also published more crap games than good games :/

TriAce is still a good dev to me, I loved the last hope. Rare has fallen off, hard.

Agreed. Crapcom is dead to me. And I can't see them ever returning to the glory days since they lost all of their most talented developers.

I lose faith in anything Microsoft touches:

- Bioware: no longer an RPG dev, now just a shooter dev (Dragon Age's mediocrity should be an indication of how they've lost their way)

- Lionhead: Fable was okay. Fable: Lost Chapters was better. Everything after that was absolutely horrible. If you say otherwise, then you've never played a real 3rd person RPG.

- Rare: enough said

- CAPCOM: they definitely picked up Microsoft's greed. Easily the greediest 3rd-party publisher other than Activision

- Oh, Activision: they've openly stated that 60% of Live subscriptions play CoD and they want in on that action. Fail.

- Square Enix: a notch below CAPCOM in the DLC and title-churning greed. Hopefully they can turn themselves around with Eidos Montreal (new Deus Ex and new Thief), but their RPG franchises are pretty much dead to me

- EPIC: they used to care about gameplay polish, balance, and having the best multiplayer. Now all they care about is having the best pre-release screenshots.

I'm inclined to agree with this as well. Seems like Microsoft's greed in infectious. I'm glad Bungie escaped their evil clutches :D

I have lost faith in:

Rare: many said they became bad when they were taken over by microsoft, but Kameo and Viva Pinata were still great games. Far better than the games they make now.

Infinity ward: doesn't need an explenation I think

Valve: makes sequel(l4d2) after sequel(portal2) after sequel(dota2) but no Half-Life :(

Dragon Age 2. If you didn't preorder before january 11 then you will not get a character unless you pay for it later as a DLC. I have also been hearing some stuff about weapons and other things. In other words, there isn't an excuse for that character or those weapons to don't be on the disk in release day.

Unfortunutely it seems to me like all the devs that I grew up loving I'm losing faith in. Square, Capcom, and as much as I'd hate to say it, Konami are all lacking any REALLY good releases lately. Hopefully Konami's Metal Gear Solid Rising can prove me wrong and Marvel vs Capcom 3 is gonna get Capcom some respect from me, but other than that it's kinda going down hill. The only classic developer I still think has great potential is Valve. Thankefully alot of new devs are coming out and taking the place of older ones. I guess the times are changing :/

Yes, let's ignore the intimate relationship Microsoft has or had with those companies.

See above. Kameo was acceptable, and Viva Pinata was truly unique, even if it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, so there's a marked decline of Rare not just from "the good ol' days", but even from the start of this generation.

Yeah I agree, same choices. SE and Capcom. However, Capcom much, much more (RE 5 and DMC is enough for me) FFXIII SHOULD have been a lot better (though FF isnt really that important to me) but at least KH (I swear, BBS is EASILY the best in the series) and TWEWY were awesome games, at least imo.

Easily Square Enix. They've been dead since '01 to me.

Bunch of sell outs.

I can't blame game companies for being a business first - but that being said, few if any games actually feel like an interesting story with good characters comes first to "mind blowing special effects". As Plinkett would say "They're using a story to tell special effects, not the other way around like it should be"

SE has been taking a queue from George Lucas as evidenced in FFXIII - effects and visuals before story and likable characters. I'd have been happy with 1/10 the effects and rendered cutscenes, but a better battle system, characters (including voice actors), and a decent plot hook before the 10 hour mark. Nothing in that game connected with me at all.

Compare that to Chrono Trigger - the peak of Square imo.

I've given up on Square. The Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery and Final Fantasy XIII all being disappointments and nothing but Kingdom Hearts spin offs instead of an actual sequel. Hopefully the Eidos acquisition doesn't mean theres no hope for Tomb Raider. I actually do like the Crystal Dynamics developed ones. I've given up on Sonic Team. Over a decades worth of flopping.

I haven't lost faith in Square Enix. Rather enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII, Star Ocean: The Last Hope International and The Last Remnant. Looking forward to trying out Dragon Quest IX and The World Ends With You. If I had a PSP, I'd probably pick up a few more of their games.

Haven't really lost faith in any game company actually.

I hate Square Enix so much. I will never buy a Final Fantasy game from them. Although I am looking forward to Deus Ex and Just Cause 2 was fantastic. But they only published soooo...

And Ninja Theory
God I hate Ninja Theory.

I know they're not a developer, but Activision.

I used to love the Tony Hawk games they put out, and I really enjoyed CoD 1 & 2, but so far this gen nothing great from them imo. I should probably play the new Spiderman game that released last year before making final judgement though. I actually really enjoyed the old ones on the PS1 (haven't actually played any since then! )

naughty dog

making linear games with lame gameplay.

even cows has to admitt uncharted2's gameplay is worse than gears of war and not as satisfying as it takes a thousand shots to kill 1 guy.

Capcom. Maybe their 3DS titles will make me like them again.

Bread_or_Decide

Viva Pinata was awesome. It doesn't get enough credit in system wars.

People seem to forget Kameo and Viva Pinata when they talk about Rare and their relation to MS
