People call the wii a gimmick all the time, but really lets look at the real gimmick this gen. HD, Cows/Lemms praise this like the second comming of jesus. Even though Hermits had HD gaming years ago(i even had it and i dont p/c game). True HD isnt even implemented in most of the big games that come out, while motion sensing is used in clever and intuitive ways on the BIG wii games.

HD, wont save any consoles this gen, only games will.

IMO those are AAA games and a lot of other review sites will agree with me, but how long can you look as last gen graphics on the wii before getting tired of it. I mean games that look like COD4 and even Halo 3 have become standard for me, and I wont accept much less.

HD makes everything look better. You don't need it for the games to look good. But it does make them look better.

It also makes televison and movies look better too.

They'd look a lot better if all the added power for hd output was just put into making a better game. Next time you are on a pc game ramp your resolution (in a game) far beyond your usual and you performance will zip down to zero.

I mean look at this way Call of Duty 4 isn't even 720p and is one of the best looking games this generation...

last i heard 720p (1080i) is HD, even 600p is HD since sdtvs operate at 480i or lower

one of my friends was doubtful of needing HD to play games but when he came over we switched my ps3 from a 15 year old panasonic to our 52" 1080p lcd tv and he was converted instantly, this generation is the beginning of HD gaming, it isn't going anywhere it's staying trust me on that one

Blah, Blah, Blah Wii had plenty of flops but fanboys say the games suck(metroid), but when they get the treatment(mass effect) people want to turn a new leaf with all this "Teh best game IMO" crap.

Well that just sucks, because your missing out on Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Metroid Prime 3 and alot of other great Wii titles.

Just because 640p is now your standard. Oh, and you also prove the TC's point. People prefer nice shiny graphics over actual gameplay. Few games have combined the two, I honestly don't see how alot of games get AAA status, its certainly not the gameplay.

Man I agree. Just reading the heading is enough. Many games play at 720P or lower INcluding COD4 on BOTH consoles. Here's the REAL KICKER. BOTH MS and Sony, were dumb enough to put only 512MB in their consoles! Now lets see, HD 1920 by 1200 is more that FOUR times the area of say 1024 by 720, and maybe eight times higher than the old CRT!! There's just not enough memory for either console to put out meaningfull large levels with only 512MB. And before some bafoon says it Blue-Ray makes no difference, its down to RAM,hywel69

ok im ready to talk sense (you right the last part made no sense), the way HD is put forward is a gimmic its only the resolution for gods sake! but the whole idea of games playing that higher resloution whic is equivelant to HD movies and other content playable on a HD TV is just awsome to behold. the numbers dont realy count its just the graphical quality and im sorry but there is no way the wii can compeat in looksthegoldenpoo

You are sort of correct. Sure, it's a gimmick, but what isn't a gimmick these days? It's becoming a common term nowadays, mainly used against the Wii. HD does attract people. It makes the whole experience much better. Hell, even I'm going to buy an HDTV sometime after christmas. Gaming is only half of the appeal. I like watching movies and some TV shows (The Office :P )as well. Just think. If the 360/PS3 couldn't do HD, I would bet they would not be quite as popular. People love getting huge ass TV's to show off their stuff. The newer 360's have HDMI, I guess that's because HD isn't a factor, right?

If I were to be worried about any console (in terms of games), I would be worried about the Wii.

they didn't get an 8.5 or a 7.5 because of the HD capabilities, but a lot of games do lose points because of terrible controls. yes nintendo does a great job, but you can't count on third party.

yes nintendo has great games, but so does other systems. so you have a choice, you can play great games with no HD or play great game with HD. either choice is a great choice, don't knock people cause they don't want to play the games you do.

understand one thing, nintendo is not the only system with great games on it, go to gamerankings and click on the 360 link, just look at all those high 80's and 90 games.......obviously somewhere in there its not just pretty shiny graphics.

No, because it isn't a good point. Colour tv was a huge leap, most people cant see 68 billion added colours or whatever, especially most men who are almost certianly mildly colour blind. If people actually believe hd is a big of a step up as colour then why aren't people watching tv via their pc's?

Only because at the moment its a fairly new technology, how did the first gen of colour tvs look compared to newer colour tvs??
