I think the low sales of Kung Fu Chaos on the Xbox are to blame too. Who wouldn't be skeptical after their last game was, put very bluntly, a flop? I think overall this whole fiasco was due to both the luke-warm reception of KFC, and not just because of Microsoft. It's more of a sour lead up to a great project.

I liked Kung Fu Chaos, but it was a major sales flop. I just can't believe Microsoft seeing concepts or trailers for this game and passing on it. It looks absolutely amazing.

In www.ninjatheory.com they explain what happened with kung fu chaos and why they signed with sony. They dont give the actual names of the companies they negotiated with, but it's easy to figure it out :). Basicaly MS wanted to absorb their dev studio, while sony offered the developing money and told em to “Make it memorable” and “Be ambitious”.

The first two use realtime assets, but only the second one looks like full realtime. The thrid one is just straight CG. Only the sceond one seems likely, and why the low rez rocks and grass?

Interesting...and a tremendously dumb move from MS. I'd love to see the looks on their faces when Heavenly Sword turns into a killer app franchise :)

Mark Rein, the Epic VP said it was. Like you say, it is probably due to the vast knowledge of their very own Unreal 3.0 engine.

Although on a technicality it is over a billion dollars. They apparently went to Microsoft and persuaded them to double the RAM from 256MB to 512MB. Epic said it would make games look and run just that little bit better so Microsoft reluctantly agreed. Plus you have to factor in the astronomical marketing hype.

 

And it's a good thing they did. 256MB of shared DDR would have ran out real fast. So then GeoW is prolly the biggest reason why the 360 is doing so well, even outside of 2 million copies it sold.

The pic up top is old. The pic in the middle will be representative of in-game, gameplay graphics. The pic on the bottom is in-game cutscene ala Metal Gear Solid, but touched up a bit to make a nice wallpaper.KeyWii
Hmm The first was CGI because Ninja Theory didn't have the facial expression engine ready for E3 '05 The second picture was from a build given to Sony back in Nov '06 (apparently the TGS demo) The 3'rd is taken today from an in-engine cut-scene with a few touch-ups and they are aiming to make it hard for the untrained eye to see the difference from cut-scene and gameplay. :)

There are subjective and objective truths. Objective truths require the positing of hypotheses and the finding of evidence to prove those hypotheses. Subjective truths require the formulation and propogation of normative arguments. Not to sound mean, but you seem to be confusing the two.

Yeah, it's basically it and some random posting at... well, a Fable 2 board (but I'm not too fond of Peter's dogs introduction) and the TR union even though I never have played any of those games.

You obviously did not read my thread. I did NOT say that it would look like that in-game. In fact, I made the opposite argument. I said it in-game would not match real-time, but if Ninja Theory pulled out all the tricks, hopefully we would not be able to tell too much of a difference. Please don't start a debate with me next time before you've actually read my statements.

MS passed on Heavenly Sword because these are the guys that made Kung Fu Chaos on the original Xbox. I guess the joke is on MS right now because it looks so damn good.

You obviously did not read my thread. I did NOT say that it would look like that in-game. In fact, I made the opposite argument. I said it in-game would not match real-time, but if Ninja Theory pulled out all the tricks, hopefully we would not be able to tell too much of a difference. Wrong. Both the second and third pics are from cutscenes. The third is from yesterday's build, and the second is from a build a long time ago.

Looks good and if they say it will look like that then it will,but in all honesty how long are you going to be looking at her face while killing hundreds of enemies at once?

there is no point. That is why people grade graphic and controls different. However, you said the graphics was fake. You determine if the graphics are fake from the control?

there is no point. That is why people grade graphic and controls different. However, you said the graphics was fake. You determine if the graphics are fake from the control?

Ofcourse, if the character only moves on a set path there are tons of tricks to optimize the FPS.  You're not in control, there is no movement therefore there is no drop in FPS.  We've watched enough movies like Metal Gear Solid.

I think the low sales of Kung Fu Chaos on the Xbox are to blame too. Who wouldn't be skeptical after their last game was, put very bluntly, a flop? I think overall this whole fiasco was due to both the luke-warm reception of KFC, and not just because of Microsoft. It's more of a sour lead up to a great project.

I liked Kung Fu Chaos, but it was a major sales flop. I just can't believe Microsoft seeing concepts or trailers for this game and passing on it. It looks absolutely amazing.

In www.ninjatheory.com they explain what happened with kung fu chaos and why they signed with sony. They dont give the actual names of the companies they negotiated with, but it's easy to figure it out :). Basicaly MS wanted to absorb their dev studio, while sony offered the developing money and told em to “Make it memorable” and “Be ambitious”.

Interesting...and a tremendously dumb move from MS. I'd love to see the looks on their faces when Heavenly Sword turns inte a killer app franchise :)

Let's cross out Sony and replace it with Phil Harrison, after all he was the vice president of SCEE at the time.

What type of game is heavenly sword? I haven't followed the game as I had no intention of getting a ps3 until the price dropped. If I can find it for the right price I'll pick one up though.
