Dragons Lair is an interactive movie about rescuing a princess. In it you must press a series of buttons at the right time to succeed.

Heavy Rain is an interactive movie about finding a serial killer. In it you must press a series of buttons at the right time to succeed.

what's the difference?

Why are you trying to flame? I'm not even going to bother explaining this to you. If you seriously think Heavy Rain is Dragon's Lair then Heavy Rain is not for you and you're probably not going to buy it or even rent it anyway.

There's nothing wrong with a simple gameplay mechanic if the game still manages to immerse with strong material. Where Heavy Rain really innovates is in the way you are given no second chances after dying. The potential for gripping suspense is unbelievable.

So you never actuley get to control the guy? thats all you do through the whole game is just press buttons? hmm i'm not sure if i'll like that but i guess i'll have to try it and see. Also what happened to the amazing graphics i saw on some screenshots before? there was some woman and it looked almost like real life. Now from that video the graphics were no way up to par with what i was expecting.

thats the misconception there is conrol over the charcter, and the graphics are quite impressive in other trailers.

Guys, the Quick Time Events are but one gameplay mechanic in the game! You still control your character and traverse the environment in the traditional manner. You investigate the environment through the usual click a button to pick something up and read it type of play that we all got used to in Resident Evil. The interactions with other characters in combat or QTEs and that's just because there is no other way to pull that off. Bottom line, the game is not a first person shooter and it doesn't feature unrealistic character models or characters. The game has a compelling story and adult dialouge and situations. As a gamer that's in his late 20's I can't wait for that. But I can understand how a younger gamer would be dismissive of the game. To each their own. Not saying all younger gamers are down on it either. I just think that the people complaining about this game aren't the people it was targeted at and most of those people are in their teens or very early 20s. Finally something for the older and grownup gamer.

No way could I play through the whole Heavy Rain game. That video was 4 minutes long and it was nothing but one quick time event after another. Seeing that vid and the one where you put make-up on the girl. No story could get me thru that much quick time events.

Heavy Rain looks nothing more than interactive movie, like MGS4.

It probably won't get higher than a 7.0, but because it's a PS3 exclusive it will be hyped to heaven and back as the next revolutionary game

The game will go underappreciated, because all the kids will be preoccupied with their ADD shooters.

Shameful

STRETCH-E

It was amazing at the time.. but really only for it's graphics (full motion video.) That was it's selling point. Gameplay wise, it was always pretty bad (not that some will admit it.)

So judging by comments in this thread, the people who are trying to suggest the game will be bad......... are doing so completely out of ignorance of the actual games design? Wow. Nice lows folks.

QFT... Just because you started gaming during the Playstation days does not make you any less of a gamer. Quoting a game you obviously have no clue about and go ballistic because you got called out takes the convo to a level it didnt need to go. But you have fun doing that ok! Game On...

This is a very good point. I suppose rhythm games can also be looked at as QTE games, yet they are massively successful and don't get the hate that this PS3 exclusive gets....oooooh. I think I've just nailed why these couple of threads have just popped up....

I don't really see the selling poing of Heavy Rain, because if a game isn't fun, and it have good graphics and story, it's better off released as a movie.

Before E3 this game was hyped up the ying-yang for it's graphics. Now that people know it is a movie with button prompts people are hating on it. I have to agree with CyanX73, this game is targeted for the more mature gamers, and I don't mean GTA mature gamer. I have to admit when people ere hyping it because of the graphics i was hating it because 'graphics does not a good game make,' but now that I know how the game plays I'm kind of envious that it is an exclusive. Maybe the younger audience just doesn't remember when the Sega CD came out and these type of game were the majority. Games like Sewer Shark, Road Avenger, Time Gal, and Night Trap.

They say Sony fanboys are more than Xbox fanboys here but what I see here is the opposite Xbox fanboys are very active in bashing PS3 games its either Xbox fanboys are increasing or Sony fanboys are busy playing games and Xbox fanboys got nothing to play so they use their time in bashing.

I don't really see the selling poing of Heavy Rain, because if a game isn't fun, and it have good graphics and story, it's better off released as a movie.hiphops_savior
So because it doesn't have oversized brutes chainsawing each other its immediately not fun? There is more to the game than what is shown, I can understand not liking it but don't say it isn't going to be fun.

[QUOTE="rybe1025"]Sorry I am not some super nerd that sits around memorizing the date every game came out. You have fun doing that though okrybe1025

You are not a nerd but you're on a console wars forum?

You'd have to be born in the early 70's to have grown up to appreciate that game on release.

I was only 2 when it came out in the arcades. Guess I'm not a nerd. Cool.....

No wait... it's cool to be a nerd now isn't it? :?

[QUOTE="rybe1025"]No way could I play through the whole Heavy Rain game. That video was 4 minutes long and it was nothing but one quick time event after another. Seeing that vid and the one where you put make-up on the girl. No story could get me thru that much quick time events.rybe1025

But dude... you could get the trophy for perfectly applying mascara, I can see me and my buddies sitting around watching the intense action... then when I pull it off... oh how the high fives would fly...

Well, it seems this game won't be for everyone. It's unabashedly cinematic and it will upset a lot of people looking for something more along the lines of "hands on" interaction.

I say what's so wrong with an interactive movie? We've come a long way since dreary point & click adventures such as Myst, if the end result is something compelling and suspenseful, then what's the sense in bashing it just because it doesn't emulate a typical "gaming" experience?
