It tries to be something it's not. In the first 9 minuits you have to shave your character, take your character to the toilet, flush the toilet, and brush your teeth. It tries to be something other than a videogame.

Heavy Rain gets my award for most pretentious game this generation.

Most of the videos that you've watched, with the exception of the video showcasing the first nine minutes, are completely out of context - which is why you think it's "nearly the same thing". You don't know anything about the set-up, the characters, etc. It's like watching the end of The Usual Suspects, and saying that it's not as surprising as it's made out to be.

It looks like a suped up version of I.P. I do not see anythig wrong with tat at all. As long as the story is good I'm happy. BTW isn't that the tutorial that the director mentioned that would take place in the beginning of the game? Do you expect the tutorial to be exciting?

How is Wii Fit similar to Heavy Rain? Wii Fit is a workout. Heavy Rain makes you flush the toilet.

Well said. Either players are demanding games exactly like those that they grew up, or completely different experiences, but either way, they complain.

And sure, Nintendo can be perceived to have been pretentious. When someone blabbers about how they're gonna change the industry or some such I always scoff. But then sometimes they actually do manage to change the industry. That's when I stop thinking them pretentious anyway. Pretension and ambition often go hand in hand and can be difficult to distinguish from one another I reckon.

But ultimately, one or the other or both, I don't care. Heavy Rain is my kind of game, and it looks to be a great one.

Yeah Fahrenheit was also pretentious. And turned out to be pretentious, for real, to a high degree. David Cage criticized the narrative of a typical videogame for being structured like a porno. So that was kind of ironic. Parts of Fahrenheit were nothing but wankery. Still a good game with a lot of promise, very interesting design and ideas.

Saying Heavy Rain is pretentious but Fahrenheit wasn't, that's a pretty big fallacy.

I can't wait for this game. I am pretty intrigued by this "adult" nudity it's going to feature too, since the graphics are remarkably realistic. I'm glad it's actually going to BE different, instead of just saying it's something new and not delivering. Thanks for hyping me up, can't wait for this pretentious title.
