[QUOTE="skrat_01"]Hah. **** no. The game didn't even have a good story to carry it. It is a remarkably different game, that goes against many gaming conventions; I admire it for that. However even for an 'interactive movie' it is downright terrible. Because even B grade thrillers have better narratives than it does, and even games that are 'interactive dramas' have far better interactivity than it does. In short, your opinion couldn't be further off the mark.GreySeal9
This. If Heavy Rain's gameplay was something more substantial than its point-and-click/QTE hybrid gameplay I could forgive the narrative, but when the game is all but entirely story driven it's impossible to ignore the awful, awful writing.
From what I've seen, the voice acting was pretty awful was well.
I mean, people give Final Fantasy XIII crap for its voice acting, but atleast it's lively and sounds energetic. Heavy Rain's voice acting is ridiculously wooden.
I think this is the kind of game that people overlook these things because it does other stuff that is pretty amazing. Still, the game is too story-driven to ignore that stuff IMO.
Oh the voice acting and script are pretty bad, but the way the plot develops, and the amount of plot holes; It is just insulting. Nothing gels, nothing comes together properly, developments are almost completely arbitrary. It is just as bad as an amateur hacking together a plot for a C grade, straight to DVD movie.
Honestly how the hell did critics not criticise the game more for this, considering the gameplay itself is based around the ****ing plot.
This is supposed to be an example of a compelling game, with a narrative that draws me in and makes me care?
No, just no, this is a stain of what it was hyped as; even if it's vision of standing out from the pack was never compromised.
