Lol.. this is actuly true..
But really.. its not much different then from other systems.. Only that the PC wont get new reasons every 5 years..

Cell Phones are the best gaming system out there. :|HAZE-Unit,
Console gaming as we know it (the subsidized console model) is most likely going to be gone next generation, yes. Microsoft has been losing money on the Xbox project for the past eight years. Let's say they reach profitability in 2008, and plan to launch a new console in 2011 - do you really think, after only two ~ three years of profit, they're going to want to go back to losing money?
I think it comes down to shareholders wanting a return on their investment - they're looking at Nintendo's record profits and share prices and saying "why can't you do that?".
-
The PS2 shows that as well - Sony is making money on the PS2 still and the hardware is old as dirt. You keep hearing software companies and analysts saying consoles need to be $200 - and they're right. But, when you build expensive systems like the 360 and PS3, you can't hit that price without being unprofitable.
Microsoft has already significantly changed their model for next gen - they're designing parts in-house for the next Xbox (since 2006).
-
PC gaming has gone through changes itself over the years. DOS to Windows, the introduction of the accelerated graphics card, online gaming, a huge market shift to MMOs - it's just part of the industry. Things will likely undergo another shift with PC gaming - there still hasn't been a real solution for laptop gaming yet, but that's a potential money-maker, but it's going to require companies to see the long-term potential of opening up that market (upgradeability) when a lot of them want to keep their properietary designs and non-upgradeable parts.
There are people who think the solution might be an extremely high speed external port that would allow a "gaming add-on" to be plugged-in, others are looking at Intels's parallel processing accelerator... but in any case, change will happen.

Microsoft made a mistake by rushing a new console and stop producing the original Xbox, they were doing what they do as a software company, I think by the start of next-gen, they will do what Sony is doing, keeping support of the 360, that way, there will be an alternative for the "losing money process" until the next Xbox profits, if they drop the 360 like the Xbox, I don't think there will be a 4th generation console for MS, they can't gample too much, they will loose.
Just like what you did say, the PS2 making money, that way, big comapnies like Sony and MS keep making new consoles if they support their old consoles, and the $200 tag will always go to the old consoles, next gen consoles always will be expensive for a while.
I see where you going by your logic, but still, it doesn't mean comapines/gamers will abandon consoles and go to the PCs, consoles may look and perform like PCs( which obviously do), but always in an easier way for who gonna plays it.

I never claimed console gamers will abandon "consoles" - but what a console is next generation versus last generation is radically different. Microsoft couldn't keep making the Xbox, it would never have reached profitability, because of a bad contract with nVidia. Though to be honest I don't think it's just the PS2 that's holding back the 360 and PS3, I think realistically it's a combination of the DS, Wii, PS2, PSP, and PC that are blocking the growth of this "HD console" market
Why change perfection. My question to you is. Why every gen, the console trys more and more with each new gen to be more and more like the PC. So thats not saying much for consoles if the PC is a "monotonous entertainment media", yet the consoles are trying SOOOOOOO hard to be just like the PC. Consoles must be total trash to you based on your statement.the consoles get changed every 5-7 years, theres always a big shake up in the industry and new things to talk about at the start of the new generations.
PC gaming hasnt evolved in 20 years. Dont blame the consolites because PC gaming is a monotonous entertainment media.

Agreed, but do you think PCs are in direct competition? you included PC with other systems, I think kids and casuals don't see PC as a gaming machine.

But the PC image will remain for most people including console gamers, that's why I think consoles and PC are far from each other IMO, each has it's own fans, or in other words, consumers.

I disagree. People like to group all the consoles together as one thing, which is somehow 'vs' the PC. I don't see it that way, and most new gamers don't see it that way. I think there are more people out there willing to pick up something like World of Warcraft when their friend say "yeah, you play it on your computer with your friends" than willing to pick up, say, a PS3 on a whim.
It depends on what console you're talking about though - for the PS3 and 360, the PC is a direct competitor. For people picking up those consoles for their media functions, the media center PC or Mac promises them more functions and software for their dollar. For core gamers looking at graphics, it's hard to justify a console they can't upgrade. And certainly for the dedicated gamer there's always going to be a competition, especially when they have similar games.
Anytime someone says "y'know, I'll buy a new PC and just put in a nice GPU, because I need a PC for school" instead of getting a 360, a sale was lost.
With the Wii I think there's less direct competition because the Wii doesn't make a name for itself doing PC-esque functions and gaming, and all because it's relatively inexpensive. That's not to say there isn't a guy out there who chose between a new GPU or a Wii, but, given the features that would draw someone to one of those platforms or another, I'd say the 360, PS3, and PC are more direct competitors than the Wii and PC.
You mean like the time when cows pretend to be hermits when a thread about X360 game having better graphics is created or like the time when lemmings pretend to be hermits when a thread about a PS3 game having better graphics is made:roll:Epic thread. :) Hermits are so despite to keep their skills up they even go to threads that aren't about them such as PS3 vs X360 graphics.

1. Because some people like to watch TV, in HD.
2. Monitors are smaller in size. (There are no 52-72" monitors and if there are, the prices are far from practicle).
3. I would much rather have a $600 32" HDTv than a $1100 30" monitor for console gaming that is.
4. Was that really a serious question or are you punking us?

HD Channels.
Size of screen makes it nicer for living room.
HDMI is almost nill in alot of moniters...therefore no HD movies.
Alot of ports for multiple stuff.
I mean, CPU moniters are nice, but nothing beats HDTV in style.

What the hell does that have to do with what I wrote?
And... a $200 monitor is a guaranteed piece of crap, there's no comparisson between the low-end TN panel found inside a $200 monitor and the S-IPS or P-MVA panel inside a $1200 32" HDTV. Obviously that's why you see PC gamers who pick up 1080p HDTVs to game on - 1920 x 1080 is a fine resolution, and the color calibration, inputs, et cetera are generally all around better.
Of course, you're far better off picking up a $1200 *monitor* as it will support better color calibration, color profiles, PC standards, et cetera - and a $1200 monitor will have a better backlight, panel, and response time than if some of that budget is going towards making the screen larger -or- paying for decoder circuitry.
I'd recommend you start your monitor-buying search out in the $300+ price range if you're serious about gaming, you can't get anything that doesn't utterly suck for less than that.
-
So yes, I have no idea why you would even attempt to compare a $200 screen and a $1200 screen...

I've yet to have anyone dispute this and I've posted it 4 hours ago. Am waiting. Whats great about the PC is that anyone serious enough about game developement could learn how to create games like with the expense of a weekend. It's basically free on-the-job training for folks that are trying to persue a career in the industry. At the same time your not limited by creative standards so it's not as if you have higher-ups breathing down your neck coursing you into the direction that they feel is appropriate, your free to be as sick as you want then coin/promote the game however you please.
what about this:
Many people dont know how to build a PC and many dont want to go through the hassles of building one. Other option is to get ripped off or in other words buy a gaming PC from places such as Dell etc.
So, better option for them is to simply buy a console.

Maybe I got lost after scrolling through 13 pages, but lets say I was adding a negative point of PC that is complexity.
Hermits have long had the best arguing skills out of everyone in these forums. Why you ask? Because the majority of them know the nuts and bolts of their system. They know what the majority of parts for their Pcs are for and what is better than what. They know the statistics. Heck a lot of them even build their own machines.
Compare that to a console gamer, a person who merely goes onto websites to validate their points and after surfing through a couple dozen and eventually finds one that tells them what they want to think they come and post in here with all their PWNing topics.
And whoever says the PC has no games is a complete moron. It has more pay games, it has more free games, it has more online games etc...

That a PC has more complexity and expense in comparison to a console in building and maintaining also creates another situation that gives Hermits an unfair advantage in debate.
It is likely most PC gamers have consoles, since they are more accessible and cheaper.
It is unlikely many console gamers have gaming PCs, since they are less accessible and more expensive.
Obviously this isn't an absolute rule, but a general one. There would be of course people out there who game only on PCs, and obviously there are people who game on both and prefer consoles. But it does create a situation however where for the most part, one side has experienced it all, one side has experienced only some.
