[QUOTE="toast_burner"]

lets say that the MAC isn't a PC, what exactly does that prove? Starcraft still isn't on consoles so it's not a reason to get a console, it's a reason to get a Mac (Although i still wouldn't recommend one, just stick with Windows)

Davekeeh

That's not the point, it just isn't exclusive to Windows or the PC.

You made it the point when you said

I guess that settles it. Pretty sad seeing as the PC has been out for such a long time yet it still gets beaten by consoles when it comes to exclusives.

So if you don't wanna miss out on all the great exclusives out there, you really need to go buy a console because you ain't getting any on the PC.

Davekeeh

I know this is a troll thread but w/e. By your logic, using games like Redead redemption or Mortal Kombat in a PS3 Vs Pc thread would be stupid because it's on the 360 as well... it's irrelivant, point is you can't play it on the PC... See this is where ispeakfact beats you (gonna look stupid if you are an alt of his). in his op he never directly brough in a comparrison with consoles...

So **** sad that you guys come here to debate about which platform is the best, instead of just being happy with your system of choice and playing the games on it.

Even sadder that people create threads like this. Most likely people that create threads like this are insecure in their own system of choice..

it's not piracy :|

you can buy a wii game and play it on PC legally :|

rilpas

AFAIK that depends on where you are, BUT even if your local laws allow that, you still need to own both the game and the console.

Why? Well, part of the software required to run games on a console is located in the console itself, and to legally make or use a backup of that you must own the console.

Now, what's herms' next claim? They DO own the consoles and the games but run emulators because they just love 1080p

That is NOTtrue. You can only run OSX legally without an Apple motherboard, which Apple does not sell. In every other context, Windows PCs, Linux PCs, and Mac PCs are different. Fact of life, end of story.

StormyJoe

Don't think it's illegal...

But I do know it's possible.

In any case,MAC is a PC,and this whole argument is useless.

Yes it is. The EULA for OSX clearly states that you are only allowed to run it on Apple hardware. Mac PCs and Windows PCs are different in every context outside of SW. So, why should SW be different?

Fine, didn't know that, and I honestly find it suprising since the "Hackintosh" community is fairly large, and I never heard of any large legal battles.

In any case,MAC is ultimately a PC,so games availible on the Windows and MAC OS are PC exclusive...

Incorrect...

All of the listed OS can work on the same hardware...

No matter what OS you use,the platform remains a "PC",so nothing wrong with using the term.

Then there is also dual boot, where you run more than one OS on a single PC...

how are they different if I can install linux and and mac on PCs?

how are they different if I can install all three OS' on macs?

are you saying MACs are not personal computers?

Number one Not all PC's WILL run MAC os the ones that do are called hackintoshes. I wasn't aware that it was illegal but my uncle works at apple in CA and he help me set mine up. So ether he knew about it and didn't think it was a big deal (that could easily be the case) or its not illegal to run on something besides a Apple mother board. Also you CAN get a hold of Apple mother boards. I went into a apple genius store and order one because the one in our faily computer (a mac) wasn't working correctly.

BTW I don't use the hackintosh for gaming its mainly for design stuff.

MAC is a PC (personal computer).

KiZZo1

The grey area that makes most people confused about emulation, is if it's legal to make a backup copy of your purchased game on your PC (a ROM or a ISO disk), and playing that backup copy. That's were in some contries it's illegal, wile in others it is legal. And obviously pirating the game off the net is illegal everywere.

Now purchasing the game, and playing that very game disk or cartrige trough a emulator is fully legal, i don't know what kind of bat sh*t crazy law wouldn't allow that. As far as i know, that's legal everywere.

Some emulators don't require the software (BIOS) to run. And the ones that do, it's legal in most countries to dump your own bios from your purchased console.

No, its a different operating system on the same platform. its a simple case of compatibility as is any other part of a computers specs. A platform is both hardware and software combined to make the finished product.

That's because a PC is a open-ended platform with a multitude of OSs to choose from, it's the same platform, devs believe that aswell because it's common sense, you crazy fool.

The 360 is completely different hardware wise from a PS3.

Everytime they decide to release american game in Europe or in Japan, bassicaly every time they port from NTSC to PAL and reverse. So I guess this means PAL 360 and NTSC Xbox 360 are different systems? Wow...

a system is software.

how many times have devs ported a ps3 game to ps3?

or a 360 game to 360?

seems like PC is the only platform that devs will invest money in, to make a port... for the same platform.

BeardMaster

Omg how dull can you get? a 360 and PS3 don't even run on similar architecture like a Mac/Wintel PC does.... both their hardware and software is completely different.... not just spec wise. You realise that all developers have to develope drivers and compatibility with both Intel and AMD? are we going to start calling that multiplatform aswell like the complete fool you are being? its easy to troll and lump this up similar to consoles, when in reality it quite clearly isn't. fact of the matter, at the end of the day I have ONE PC, that has 4 seperate OPERATING SYSTEMS on it. You have no comeback for that, because there isn't one. stop riding the troll bandwagon, its pathetic.

look i dont want to insult you, but you are completely wrong.

who do you thin designed console hardware? hint: its PC manufacturers.

consoles are perfectly capable of running a windows or mac OS.

And yet they can't, but my PC can. do you see the underlying flaw of your arguement? Techinical "what ifs" mean nothing. still remains that my SINGULAR PC has both mac OS and win OS. fact of the matter is, consoles cannot do that.

Everytime they decide to release american game in Europe or in Japan, bassicaly every time they port from NTSC to PAL and reverse. So I guess this means PAL 360 and NTSC Xbox 360 are different systems? Wow...

ive heard hermits speak of you in kind regard.

and you think putting a region lock on software is the same as porting?

if this is the cream of the crop, i think the system war is over.

I'm pretty sure my PS3 or xbox would explode if I tried to install even and older OS like IOS tiger on it but okay lol

good thing I have a capable pc and a 360 to get me through these hard times

indeed, god knows a PS3 alone wouldn't cut it

As much porting as moving a game from Windows to OSX is. I don't think you realize just how diffrerent moving a game from one architecture to completely new one is compared to just moving game from one OS to another, when both use exactly the same hardware. Heck, majority of games moved from Mac to PC are done automatically by implementing Cider, with barely any input from programmers themselves.

Fact is, OSX and Windows are just OS, both are used on computers. And you can install both OSes on same the PC.

Now, if somebody would claim a game to be "Windows exclusive"...that's a whole different thing. But PC exclusive? Both Windows computers, Linux computers and Mac computers are all PCs, so your logic is invalid. Systems are determined by hardware and what is inside Mac is the same thing there's in Dells and it ran run the same software.

[QUOTE="Rocker6"]

Fine, didn't know that, and I honestly find it suprising since the "Hackintosh" community is fairly large, and I never heard of any large legal battles.

In any case,MAC is ultimately a PC,so games availible on the Windows and MAC OS are PC exclusive...

Rocker6

then why do devs port games from PC to mac or vice versa? is it because the devs are too dumb to realize its the same platform and no port is needed?

or is a port needed because they are different platforms?

MAC is a PC (personal computer).

"The Macintosh or Mac, is a series of personal computers (PCs) designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc."

Source: Wiki

A game availible on both Windows OS and OSX is a PC exclusive, end of story.

I tire of this debate...

And also, you dont need to buy both a mac and windows pc to play all current gen pc games. You need to buy all consoles to play all console exclusives.

screw that. I have all these games I still need to buy for my PS3. Granted over half aren't exclusives, and a few aren't out this year, but personally somehow I think I will survive.

so you typed all that with a straight face? commendable. because you obviously dont have a clue what yur talking about. So i have a gamebox in front of me that says PC CD, you think i can load this up on a mac then? since they are the same thing
