Is it true the whole game takes place in one city? That'd be a huge bummer if so...

According to the presentation there'll be caves and dungeons, but the game will take place in Kirkwall for the most part.

That's extremely disappointing. One of the great things about Origins was its environmental variety. Spending 40 plus hours in one area doesn't sound very appealing to me.

It will be done how BG2 was done based on location.

It still doesn't look interesting to me, and I was a huge fan of the first title.

Clearly not... "I loved the first! But I'm passing up the chance to get my first real chance to look at the game." That just doesn't jive.

Like you know what I'm thinking. I'm not going to jump on the sequel I learned my lession this gen (being a huge FF fan and being very disapointed with FFXIII). BTW if you read my other post I did state I would give the game a chance but I wasn't going to buy it when it first comes out. Selective reading is really a bad habbit to have, rolo.

I'm talking about posting the comment you made before possibly having watched the video... 3: Sorry about my bad habits though.

Don't try using the FF excuse. Base on all the games that came before FF13, it was clear that ff13 was going to be bad. Bioware only made one bad game....I see in no way the quality dropping now bacause of converstion wheels and not being able to change your team mates pants.

Maybe not interested is the wrong thing to say. I should of went with not excited due to the fact I am being cautious on what titles I pick this. (School is kicking my butt this semester when it comes to funds)

[QUOTE="110million"][QUOTE="jjccjj92"]Maybe I played a different game than everyone else but basic enemies in Origins never required any sort of tactics to bring down. Only when you were up against Elites or whatever they were called did strategy come into play.

dreman999

You played it on consoles right? Normal on PC was harder than hard on consoles, it was scaled differently. It was possible to be overwhelmed by a large room of enemies.

Not ture at all. Normal was the same every where and no the Mge was not tanking. Statagy is still need forDA2.

Normal on console has no FF for one, in general, if you google around, a lot of people are saying they found it to be far harder on PC than consoles. I can see why someone who played it on a console may want to deny it but...

You too selective reading is a bad habbit. You didn't bother to read the last post I left you about being iffy on what titles I pick up this year. Also FFXIII wasn't the only bad sequel (it was the first to come to mind though). Also I like the previous FF titles before FFXIII. FFXII is one my personal fsves despite the major story changes and development hell it went through. FFXI was the only MMORPG I played and enjoyed. FFX-2 well it has the best ATB system featured in a FF game.

True dat.. JRPGs started (and still do) use mechanics created in the west, I don't see how that changes anything.

Dont bother...

People dont wanna call King's Field and Demon's Souls JRPGs because it shatters the "Anime girly boy with amnesia" stereotypes they like to toss at the genre.

Ah, then I'm in the exact same boat. ;) I'm not gonna be getting DA2 anytime soon. Sadly, I'll be waiting for an Ultimate Edition on sale on Steam due to school and running a business. I'm just out of this world busy. I don't have the time or the money.

The dialog wheel is pathetic. You have three answers which you can see the result of your choice before you choose what you want to answer.

You can pause during the combat and so what? It's nothing like Dragon Age: Origins. Enemies are weak and don't require any strategy and positioning of your party. The mage was in front line "tanking" the enemies with no problem. Also, no friendly fire means no need for tactics. The combat basically resumes to shoot everything you have at the enemies. That was the "tactic" used in all the fights showedduring the presentation.

Ugly interface.

Streamlined companion inventory.

One good thing about the game: night & day cycle. ;)

110million
Yeah I'm pretty angry they still didn't add multiple attack queues and said its because you'd never need to queue more than one attack to kill an enemy, I don't see how thats supposed to make it more fun, to fight endless amounts of fodder enemies. =/

Multiple attack queues are completely pointless. Lets say you queue up a bunch of damaging spells, but you suddenly need to heal your tank because the enemy did a ton of damage. What good did the multiple attack queue do you?

Still has the familiar Bioware Robo-animations that really bug me about RPG's these days.

Why aren't npcs ever doing something while they talk? They alway seem to turn around, stand rigidly tall, and use 3 recycled gestures to talk to you."

Edit: Also the blood all over the body thing is really stupid. Maybe not during combat, but during a conversation they should at least wipe their faces off or something. As it stands it's still pretty hard to take anyone seriously while blood is turned on.

"I can't believe it's over, all the horrible things he did are over."

"You know his innards are all over your face right?"

Still on my ignore list.

Complete removal of weapon armor customisation , horrible VA for the male character, approval ratting change, paraphrasing , stuck with one sibling in one city-class dependent, running around based on some comments during the exaggerated parts with default Hawke's ugly head...

People should have information before provoking others, and assuming that everyone has the same approach to a genre that depends so much player's idea's about flexibility, impact and customisation is plain wrong.

Never cared about the combat for example, but combat looks repetitive just flashy, and town and characters look boring and bland. Unexpected from Bioware.

So assuming that everyone is willing to deal with recycled mage robes from DAO, and king Caillan's armor recolor again from DAO, when the marketing babble was all about visual identity is wrong too.

To each his own, but thinking that hype, review's and preview's will change everyone's opinion is arrogant. The video just confirmed everything that I already knew about the game. Talking just about my self of course.

Planescape Torment has very little JRPG influence. Dragon Quest is not low fantasy or dark fantasy, neither is WKC. Kings Field and Demon's Souls (KF's spiritual successor)are Ultima Underworld influenced, they have far far more in common with WRPG elements than JRPG elements.

So what? It's still a jrpg. You can say the samething about Dragon quest.

Unfortunately, the people MAKING THE GAME disagree with you. ;D

"I'm no fan of the genre westerners refer to as the JRPG," says Takeshi Kajii."I've always loved the dark fantasy genre, from Wizardry right through to King's Field. Yet games that assume that aesthetic these days are usually, at their heart, more like science-fiction. So my desire was to revisit this lost area of gaming, to rediscover a charismatic corner of the medium."
http://thesilentchief.com/2010/08/13/sony-computer-entertainment-producer-takeshi-kajii-is-no-fan-of-jrpgs/

If you grab the magazine, they talk briefly about how they were specifically trying to NOT make a JRPG.

What good did the multiple attack queue do you?Guppy507
You stop the queue and change the next attack to heal? Even then, how many healers do you need? if you want, make the healer not have multiple queues if you can't just change what their doing. Its not that you can't queue that the problem, its that they said normal enemies are so easy, you woulden't have to, so your healing issue is even less relevant.

So dark fantasy is exclusive to the west, and thus makes something a western RPG? That's a very shallow way of thinking, it's like saying La Maison en Pet1ts Cubes was made in France because it takes heavy inspiration from french animation.

[QUOTE="spookykid143"]It's made by a Japanese dev therefor it's a JRPG.

You're correct! Japan = a country RPG = Role playing game. JRPG = Japanese role playing game. BAM. Basic math.

That's not how it works, people are mistaken.

How else would it work?

the game plays much much more like a WRPG, end of discussion. You can label it whatever you want.

[QUOTE="dreman999"][QUOTE="Jankarcop"] Yes, its made by a Japanese dev....but it has Western RPG mechanics and artstyle. Its a Japanese WRPGtexasgoldrush

So my desire was to revisit this lost area of gaming, to rediscover a charismatic corner of the medium."If you grab the magazine, they talk briefly about how they were specifically trying to NOT make a JRPG.

So him not liking other jrpgs means his game is not a jrpg? I don't get it.....The creator of Megaman hate other japanese game, but that doesn't mean he's not a japanese developer.

Doesn't stop it from being a jrpg.

The developer of an RPG setting out to *not* make a JRPG can make it not one. JRPG is a term that includes a fair amount of context of what it means to the game itself - it's not just a blind statement of where the developer making it happened to be located. So Secret of Evermore - published by Squaresoft, and in every gameplay sense a JRPG - was not a JRPG because it was developed by Americans? Septerra Core? If CD Projekt opened another studio in Japan and had them make an expansion for The Witcher, the game would suddenly become a JRPG without any gameplay changes?

Question: why would a DA2 hater want to watch 55 minutes of it? :P

Teufelhuhn

I think I like you.... odd as that may sound, this is one of the most intelligent questions that has ever been asked on this forum. I am shocked. :P

JRPG is a genre not related to or determined by the region that the developers are from.. An American dev could make a JRPG and it would still be a JRPG. It refers to design mentalities and development decisions made in the creation of the game that have traditional resulted from the effect of Japanese culture on the interpretation of the RPG. However, just because an RPG is made by a Japanese developer does not mean that the game is automatically a JRPG. If the RPG is defined by western culture and western interpretation of the RPG(regardless of where the developer is from), then it is a WRPG not a JRPG...
