[QUOTE="walkingdream"] Your joking right? I just put out facts and figures and that's all you have? Halo 2 WAS FAR MORE ANTICPATED THEN GTA Midnight Launches all over the world and everything....... Seriously...your Joking right? Oh and does it matter if it's a timed exclusive? still had 2 more systems to sell on to effect overall sales.

walkingdream

I justed checked and GTA sold more in its first week then Halo 2 did.... and 17GTA:SAcopies vs 8 million halo copies.....

IT HAD 2 More platforms!!! How hard is that to understand? plus the PS2 had a massive advantage in selling over time compare the Install base for eg 100 million Install base vs 20 Million install base...... Explain the 24 Hour Sales then which Anticipation is all about! GTA didn't come within 3 miles of Halo 2

you still don't understand let me break it down for your feeble mind it sold 21 million overall. Thats overall, all platforms, that includes the ps 2, xbox and the pc. Now in its first week on the ps 2 alone ok thats just the ps 2 ok. it sold almost 4 million. You still with me here??? Halo sold 3 million. thats the first week. overall sales on the ps 2 alone were 17 million halos was 8 million do you get that basic concept.

No. The best bet for "Star Wars of this generation" is Harry Potter. Good series, good stories, same basic SW formula.

Infact, HP's plot is much better than the SW movies, and i love SW.

Halo is a big video game, but it no where near has the same cultural signifigance of SW, HP, or others. I mean Deathly Hallows sold like 11 million copies in 24 hours. At least Harry Potter also gets people reading. HP also has a much better plot than Halo, but they shouldn't even be compared really. HP is more epic, and drawn out than a 4hour single player campaign really can be.

darth-pyschosis

I really don't understand it people say that Halo's campaign is so short. I thought from the both I've played (1+2) that they were decent enough in length to make for a fulfilling enough experience. It's comparable in length to many of the other FPS's I've played. Maybe it's just my playing style, but that's what I've observed.

the figures i poseted were for the ps 2 alonenot combined.

Rza_rectah
You just keep avoiding and not listening to anything that is said don't you? GTA:SA on PS2 has Sold 12 Million Not 17 More than Halo but Consider the Massive Install Base. If the Xbox had 100 Million plus consoles Halo 2 would of sold at least 17 million or so. And what is Anticipation about anyways? Sales over a short period of time so why do you keep avoiding this little fact??? Fact is that Halo 2 Was Hyped Miles Beyond anything that year, were you living under a rock or something? I don't even Like Halo 2(i was very dissapointed) But the Hype was enormous at least 10 times what KZ2 or anything else.

maybe the install base is what made the game bigger in the first place ever think of that? And both games were hyped but GTA was actually good.

EDIT: and xbox didnt have 100 million unit so your imaginary point is irrelevant.

The length for Halo franchise campaign has never been a problem for me. No game really, except for COD4 lol. I play somewhat slowly and soak in everything the game has to offer. I don't play it to beat it, but to EXPERIENCE it :P.

Do you think Halo is as popular in our generation, as Star Wars was in the 70s and 80s? navyguy21

No, but a Halo movie might help though.

I think it makes sense. SW had an almost cult like following, as does Halo. They both take place in outer space, in the future... I dont think Halo has reached SW's level, but its the closest thing this gen has.

Yes. So true. Halo is a VIDEO GAME, it's nothing near the level of Star Wars. Star wars basically took over the world.... halo has not and will not EVER do that. PLus, I think the HAlo story is Generic. (ooh aliens are taking over our planet LETS KILLEM), smae thing as Resistance 2, Gears, Killzone(all centered around evil aliens that we gotta kill)

Ahh so now Ignoring facts when it suits you ey? Yes you did you said "Maybe the install base is what made the game bigger" Now clearly that is wrong how could a smaller Install Base of the Xbox even compete with the PS2 in sale of a long period of time? That was the point i was simply making. SO dude clearly you fail no wait, make that an epic fail.

Um, dude get your facts straight.

1) Star Wars didn't take over the world. It took over the hearts of young males in the 70s/80s. Just like Halo.

2) Halo's story is not about aliens taking over the planet.

Nevertheless, I don't think Halo's impact is just as big as Star Wars. Not yet, anyway.

[QUOTE="Rza_rectah"][QUOTE="walkingdream"] Yet it held the Record for the most copies sold in 24 hours and biggest pre orders ever in the industry entertainment.......that is till Halo 3 came along, and made more money but sold less in the 24 hour period. Your joking right? The only reason GTA sold more is due to it being on many more platforms......Stop Hating on Halo just because you can! I'm a PC Gamer to but it just flicks my switch when people decide to Randomly yell HALO IS OVERRATED for no apparent reason other than hoping to dull it's popularity. Sigh....so sick of Halo Haters....walkingdream

My reasons are apparent since i played the game and I think there are far better games out there. GTA: was released on the ps 2 as a timed exclusive. much more people anticipated that game at launch than Halo 2. I can Hate any game i choose if i dont like but some one else screams its the best thing ever i have a right to voice my opinion and you cant silence it.

Funny how everything turns into a Fanboy war, well.. back to the PS3 forums. There's nothing interesting in 360 forums or system wars anyways....(just spent some time on the 360 ones).

It's a joke you are even suggesting the two were even in the same league in terms of hype. Look GTA was the better game i'm not doubting that but you must of lived under a rock or something to not see every second thread was about Halo 2?

Its about the game yes the install base does play a part but overall its the game that people are purchasing. If you cant see that then i dont know what to tell you. You would have a point if we were comparing two of the same games on different consoles example gta 4. I was discussing two different games as i stated before gta: sa was the bigger game all you had to do was agree.

Yeah I agree with this

Harry Potter is much larger and influential than Halo

A lot of people know what Halo is, more than you think. Halo gets plastered everywhere when a new Halo game is released. Here's a litmus test: ask the hottest, most non-nerdy girl you know if she's heard of Halo. She'll say yes. The same thing happened with Star Wars. People knew about it. They didn't have to actually see it.

If you played all the Halo's you still wouldn't have said the story is about aliens taking over the world. In fact, the first game has nothing to do about aliens taking over the world lol.

[QUOTE="walkingdream"][QUOTE="Rza_rectah"] I never said that i was comparing the games not the systems.... I already told you my qualms with halo. Look at the wiis audience dont see wii games going halo numbers now do you? dude you fail LOL

EDIT: except wii fit but i dont even consider that a game.

Rza_rectah

Ahh so now Ignoring facts when it suits you ey? Yes you did you said "Maybe the install base is what made the game bigger" Now clearly that is wrong how could a smaller Install Base of the Xbox even compete with the PS2 in sale of a long period of time? That was the point i was simply making. SO dude clearly you fail no wait, make that an epic fail.

I can't bothered with this anymore, ill agree to disagree lol

"I just think it's an amazing story about this child that no one cares about and who cares for no one else, who kind of ends up saving all of humanity... So I just started calling, because I really believe a Halo movie would just be awesome, especially this Halo movie." "

.. Okay, now I don't really wanna see a Halo movie after a statement like that. If they make the Chief the new Luke Skywalker, I.. I don't know what I would do. Nothing positive, that's for sure.

For popularity, yeah its close. But i agree with Harry Potter Man. I never liked Halo story and didn't get when people said to read the books, since those stories are good. So i also agree with Source Material Boy.

Harry Potter is this generation's Star Wars. As far as video games go, Halo is the biggest phenomenon, but I wouldn't call it the best game world/story. Wait about 5 years and Mass Effect universe will be the best sci-fi wise :) (it's still quite young).

Here are those live action trailers that were made for the Halo 3 launch. After watching this I would like the idea of a Halo movie.

Arms Race

Combat

Last one Standing

I have to say, I enjoy the Halo universe far more than I enjoyed Halo 3. It was fun at first, but I want something that allows more exploration I guess.

No, Star Wars is our generations Star Wars :?

The Fate of the Jedi series is still going, there's plenty of other new books to look forward too along with the new live action tv show, plus The Clone Wars, however bad it may be. The Old Republic has yet to releeased as well, and I'm sure Lucas Arts are working on something. Why are people assuming that Star Wars has.. ended? Hell, I'd say the new books and games are even better in quality than the prequel trilogy...

Harry potter is not sci-fi. :| Fantasy perhaps but not sci-fi. :| ME perhaps i agree, very deep world but it's not as massive as halo.

What he said is true even if he is trying to sell his film idea.

People in this thread need to realize it doesn't matter if you like halo or not some pepole dont like star wars..doesn't change the fact theres no other sci-fi universe around that matches it. Halo is the star wars of the video game world. Which sadly means its going to go to hell during the end. XD

Star Wars universe is pretty damn huge, the potential there is pretty much endless. Now I haven't read any Halo books or stuff but the world seems much more limited. Popularity vise though I guess they could be compared, Halo certainly has made the cash, the main limitation as I see it is the fact that it's Xbox exclusive, pretty much making it an american/gamer thing while movies are more universal.

Barely any memorable characters, nowhere near as interesting ships or architecture, Jedis > Spartans (lame) .... nowhere near what a retarded thing to say.

Why don't they just take the universe that Master Chief is bassed on and make a Better movie involving the Warhammer 40k universe and Space Marines, The potential a saga of Warhammer 40k films has is massive.

Forgive me, but why are you comparing a film and a game? Two more recent examples of the Halo syndrome can perhaps be found in WoW and COD4.

Price of entry for Star Wars upon cinema release = £7

Price of entry to Halo 3 upon its release = £200 - £300? (Console and game) Then add LIVE costs.

Rough numbers, sure. But you wonder why Halo will never reach Star Wars?
