I fail to see how something can be a "rippoff" if its free and please...Virtual Laguna Beach? If I want to talk with a bunch of vain *****es I already know of plenty that live near where I do.

Regarding Second Life..have fun getting spammed with, "cyber?", "a/s/l", and watching all the flying *****es go by.

Runningflame570

Well actually There isnt virtual laguna beach but Mtv did use the same engine for there games as There used they actually asked the dev team of there if they could use there engine for the laguna beach game.

Listen here you PC gamer. Just because you have the internet on locked doesn't mean you can dish Home. You better start caring about it because Home will be just as great as your PC internet services.

I don't even use the 3D chatrooms. I have something called a, "Real Life". I don't need a "second life". I'd rather just play games. -_-

So "Real Life" excludes 3d chat rooms? explain?

Yeah, its a poor excuse for socialization. I've read tons of psychological studies that attribute all kinds of mental illness to the lack of developing real social interactions.

And for god's sake, don't be so quick to use the word rip-off. If you go by that, everything's a rip-off these days. Even this very forum, cause I'm sure it's been done before elsewhere.

Nightflash28

Yep, way back in ARPANET there was something similar to VoIP and the first system that you could probably call a message board was made back in 1973.

sigh, you still need the 600$ hardware.

You don't on PC for Second Life? Its a fairly demanding application and well..There, looks extremely primative and I'm sure it has limited membership.

Do you want me to go Sigmund Frued? I will. Video games themselves are a strong psychological stimulant that cause all kinds of chemicals to be released in the brain. Something like this could easily cause an artificial dependance. Tie that to something like a 3D enviroment and you can easily explain why WoW has become such a phenomenon. With the addition of simulated social interaction and the release of psychological stimulates, its a powerful "drug". This mental illness is known as IDA, and is traeted by the Center For Internet Addiction and Recovery. I play video games to have fun, but theres a fie night line between fun and addiction. CFIAR: http://netaddiction.com/ Well that was a nice little tangent.

Actually, I was gonna post that about you on video gaming, but it seem you in denial saying you only play them for fun. Being a PC gamer, I find that hard to believe. It's the niche gamers that are hardcore...

Great job pointing out the obvious.  Yes Home is taking the idea of 3d chat, and expanding on it to make it better.  Guess what?! It's not the first time a good idea has been expanded on!  Everyone and everything is guilty of copying a good idea.  Automotive company's, Jeweler's, and Fast food chains, just as examples, have been copying each other for decades!  So, Suck it Up and DEAL!  Stop calling Home out on it's repeat of a good idea unless you start calling everyone and everything else out

I'm far from a hardcore gamer. Anyone who takes a look at my times on xfire can realize that I don't play that many games. You also have to be careful about calling PC a niche audience. Why? because until very recently we had the only AAA next gen racing title, the only AAA next gen casual party title, and much more. PC is far from a niche audience. The best selling games are all casual games to be exact.

It's hard to be a rip-off when it's free......but yes, it's nothing huge. Well, it might be compared to the PS3's current library....MegaPigeon

Well it depends on if you buy the premium content like the pool tables and stuff for your house, if Im not mistaken those cost a bit of money.

Does this place give you or own "home", does it let you player arcade games, bowling, etc. Does it it let you form clans that you can play games with?(directly join mutliplayer from home) Can you share your own videos and music as easily as you can with home? Plus, (as you mentioned) home doesn't look like a ps1 game...

No they only cost if you want to have one in your virtual home. They are free to play in the general gaming area.

Do you realize I'm telling the TRUTH? Until very recentily, the ONLY next gen AAA racing title was GTR2. Currently the PC is in the lead for racing titles. Until Warioware the ONLY next gen AAA casual title was Dinner Dash. The PC is tied with the Wii in casual titles, if not ahead. The best selling PC ttiles for last fiscal year: Cars, Sims, and other casual titles. The PC is far from a niche audience.

Yes, but you can't play second life or there without a PC.  Same with Home, you can't use it without a PS3.  However you are not paying for second life or there by buying a PC and your not paying for Home by buying a PS3.  He was using simple point counter point logic, and it works since the original arguement is flawed

If sony was charging for home i could understand your argument.

But since they aren't, go back into your hole

ParadiddleFill

well they are charging for it 600 dollars to play when you can play better virtual chatrooms like There and Second Life for free on you pc

You have to buy a PC to play There and Second Life.

im pretty sure most people own pcs

Yes, but you can't play second life or there without a PC. Same with Home, you can't use it without a PS3. However you are not paying for second life or there by buying a PC and your not paying for Home by buying a PS3. He was using simple point counter point logic, and it works since the original arguement is flawed

Owned.

not really my point was that since most people own pcs they dont need to spend 600 dollars to play home when they can play better virtual chatrooms for free without spending the extra money on a ps3

Wrong.  Consumers pay 600 dollars for the playstation game/entertainment console.  Home is an online service that comes with the PS3 that is free.  Just like Second life and There can be used if one owns a PC and one cannot use those without owning a PC.  It does not matter that most people own a PC.  Everyone has to purchase a PC to own a PC, everyone has to purchase a PS3 to own a PS3, there is no if's and's or but's.  Also there is nothing proving these chatroom's are better or worse.  Home is not even out yet, so there is nothing to compare.

You still have to have bought a PC to play There and Second Life.

yes but since most people have pcs they can already play better virtual worlds like There and Second Life without spending 600 to play home

Calling it a "better" virtual worlds is pushing it. Home isn't trying to a virtual world, it's trying to be bring together a community of gamers. I've heard from people who were beta testing home that it's not that fun and realized that home isn't suppose to be "fun" in itself. It's like XBL, you actually need many other people that you can play actual games with before it get's "fun". And when you have these people (~1 million instead of ~15,000 that are in the home beat now) It could possibly even better than XBL  (you can't join multiplayer games just yet with the home beta) Plus, I don't have to spend $800+ to play second life :)

you still dont get what im trying to say who would pay an extra 600 dollars when they already have a pc that can play better virtual chatrooms like There and Second Life and yes these worlds are better due to the fact that you can create your own lands and iteams without paying for premade iteams. Not to mention Second Life has its own economy and real estate and actual virtual colleges where you can go te hear lectures.

Oh for god's sake, please stop acting as if people only buy a PS3 and pay 600 dollars for it ONLY to log on to home.

And it's not just a chat room.

But it seems like you're oblivious to people that are trying to explain to you what Home at it's core actually is. There's no point in discussing with you any further.

bye.

Your logic is flawed.  One is not paying an EXTRA six hundred dollars for anything, they are paying $600 for a PS3.  It DOES NOT matter if most people already own a PC.  That PC had to be purchased at some point.  PC's don't just come with houses, and they certainly don't appear out of thin air.  Maybe your parents own one and you use it, but they had to pay for it, and at some point you will have to purchase one.

the point is why pay extra money for a feature thats on the pc which everyone already owns. Its like whats the point of buying a jaguar for the the FM player when your Rolls Royce already come with XM

[QUOTE="MegaPigeon"]It's hard to be a rip-off when it's free......but yes, it's nothing huge. Well, it might be compared to the PS3's current library....dmaximum

Well it depends on if you buy the premium content like the pool tables and stuff for your house, if Im not mistaken those cost a bit of money.

No they only cost if you want to have one in your virtual home. They are free to play in the general gaming area.

Thats exactly what I said.

I don't think you know what the original arguement even is...it's Second life and There is better than Home.  When one compares things like theseone must take into account that everyone has access to these 2 things or has experienced them enough to compare them.  that alone can make the arguement flawed since very few people have experienced home, and the fact that most are approaching this topic with a facist opinion.  Now when comparing these 2 things the fact that one is on PS3 and the others are on PC can be brought up.  However, since the original arguement stems from comparing Home and Second Life one must compare these two units equally as well.  So one must know that each of these units have to be purchased.  It does not matter if more people already own one, because that will lead to a flawed arguement as well.  So you must take into consideration that everyone either has to purchase both a PC and PS3 or that everyone already owns both.  So IT DOES NOT MATTER THAT MOST PEOPLE ALREADY OWN A PC!
Also, you still have not proven that There or Second Life is better than Home, because at this point it is Impossible.
