Horizon Zero Dawn destroyed any last hope the Xbone had for having a console graphics king. ITS DONE.

Horizon does look very beautiful but thats to be expected. Horizon is Sony's new flagship so duh this game was bound to be very pleasing to the eyes. I cant wait to see what they do for this series. They delivered a great game right out of the gate. Its looking real plausible that Horizon 2 will be critically acclaimed just like Uncharted 2.

I own BF1 on the PS4 Pro (best console version) and Horizon destroys it easily.

Horizon does not destroy BF1 and many games easily as you are stupidly claiming. I don't know how or why people think that because a game looks better its automatically leagues above the competition. Only fools subscribe to this logic.

Petty squabbles over console graphics is almost as silly as people arguing over sales of their favorite pieces of plastic.

@Pedro: You're an idiot. Where did I claim that Horizon is leagues better than every game on consoles? It looks a lot better than BF1 on Pro and hence it graphically destroys BF1 on consoles. Gameplay and other things are subjective but graphics are not. Horizon looks significantly better than BF1 on consoles and that's a fact. It doesn't mean BF1 isn't a great game or doesn't look amazing in its own right. Horizon is the console graphics king easily. The only other game that puts up a fight with it is UC4 on the Pro. Quantum break is kind of a shitty game but it looks damn good and has some incredible looking effects.

Easily the best look game on PS4. Better looking than tomb raider, uncharted 4 or witcher. Game is unbelievably gorgeous. Xbone has NOTHING that looks this good....... not even close.

This thread shall be raised from the dead in a few months, when Scorpio releases. If you think it's good now, it will be pure gold then.

Anyway, the only thing Horizon does exceptionally well in the graphics department is lighting. Even then, it's more artistic then realistic leaving it to be a very subjective matter. The robo-dinos look good as well, but otherwise it's fairly average looking.

But to address the actual topic... I don't the the Xbox One EVER had a chance for a console graphics king (lol, second place) with it being the fairly weaker console.

My friend sent me some direct caputre 4k screens. I was floored. However, the game looks boring to me and I would much rather play Breath of the Wild. I may get the game when it is $20 or less.

beyond that, on GameSpot, back when the 360 was on top, every game associated with that console was an AAAE and the PS3 games were judged more critically (typically and/or controversially AE or AAE).. now that the install bases have reversed, so has the GameSpot receptions.. as of late, now anything remotely associated with PS4 is AAAE..

it's painfully obvious and quite sad.. install bases clearly dictate the review scores here and the credibility of this site has been justifiably called into question on numerous occasions.,

but back on topic, the same goes for fanboys.. back in the 360 days, the "best multiplats" was a huge advantage according to lems.. back then, cows claimed that pixel counting was irrelevant.. these days, its the reverse..

and i'm sure we'll get a few more of these graphical threads until Project Scorpio launches and then "gameplay" (ie singleplayer Japanese games) will be all that matters again like it did in the early PS3 era..

how do you explain that flood of zelda fans all of a sudden, I mean the game shows a lot of similarities with a nineties cartoon in hd. Is that the prelude to what stance sony fans are going take. I really doubt that.

The more I think about it the more I realize that both the scorpio and ps4 pro won't be very successfull. Games still need to run on the xboxone and ps4 and even while these consoles are the weakest in console history, the difference with last gen is still a generation leap and just like last gen sony's first party still makes the best looking games. It's only because of games like crysis and metro that sony's first party wasn't in the spotlight like it is today but the pc has completely been abandoned by developpers that want to push the graphics further down the line. I mean the major title on the pc right now is star citizen, and that's a unfinished kickstarter game

The circle you're talking about isn't there, too much has changed. Xbox was a multiplayer focussed console last gen and while they kept that this gen it focussed also to be a multi purpose device. Sony has become more versatile when it came to multiplayer but they're still focussing on graphics and cinematic gameplay, this while the pc is abandoned by devs that want to push the technology further. Sony's dominion in the graphics department will not change with the release of the scorpio as long as scorpio games need to release on the xbox one.

The op is right, sony is graphics king at the time and it's not the reason why this site is dying, graphics are the bread and butter of system wars and if it is dying it's going to be because of the law of diminishing returns. But I can't see that happening very soon, not with the vr and ar technology that's on the rise.

I thought it already lost with Killzone Shadow Fall, Infamous: Second Son, Uncharted 4. So cows were lying the whole time, but we should believe them in case of HZD? I'll just go play games. Have fun with this silly pissing contest, I'll be happy to join at E3 when we see Scorpio games.

I did. But as i have already mentioned a bunch of times, i was done with Nioh, was looking for something to play and fund Horizon for only $45CAD on ebay. Decided to grab it and thanks f*ck i did. Game is nowhere near as boring as FC. Combat, art style and enemies design saves the day.

Done with Nioh already, man in the end you spent more time talking about it then actually playing lol.

Nice story, combat, art style, enemies design and graphics. It has it all. The only thing that blows are the side quests.

Of course they do, i mean they call them side quests for a reason. So i take it that it will be a one and done game then?

It might be the best looking game I've ever seen. It looks phenomenal, and it has great gameplay to back it up.

GG has claimed Horizon Zero Dawn PS4 Pro version is not maxing out the console's power i.e. GG didn't expect PS4 Pro's pack math feature, hence the lack of forward planning for PS4 Pro's additional features e.g. double rate FP16.

@i_p_daily: After TW3's side quests, there's no excuse for having crap side questing. TW3 is my standard now. If a game does it worse, i'll poop on it.
