Far Cry 3 is considered the best in the series right after the original one. How does it stack up to Horizon: Zero Dawn?
Obviously Far Cry 3 trumps Horizon Zero: Yawn. If Horizon Zero: Yawn was not an exclusive it would get a 6/10.

So I am an alt because I do not worship that Disney rip off? Imagine if Gears of War had a musical number ripping off of under the sea... Microsoft would never hear the end of it.
Isn't Far Cry 4 essentially a bit better, it just suffers from "too much of the same shit" and its improvements being marginal stuff that "it should fucking do better" type deal?
Either way, I got pretty bored playing Far Cry 3, kind of made me wonder what kind of battery acid some of you people were on while gassing that game up. And I got the part in Horizon where you watch a montage.

I like Far Cry 4 far more than Far Cry 3, especially when it comes to getting around the game world.
Far Cry 3 was "bearable"
A copy and pasted map filled with numerically numbered collectables with no reward and rinse and repeat actions which even on the hardest difficulty are easy due to the console first design.
The weapons didn't feel weak though, you could actually headshot people.

Some differences I noticed in Far Cry 4 that are not in Far Cry 3:
1. Availability of a companion AI that can take the heat off you, ride shotgun on ground vehicles
2. Ground vehicles now have autodrive, allowing you (and a companion AI) to shoot back at bad guys.
3. You can now shoot from any vehicle including the parachute, hang glider, wing suit.
4. Animal predators can now take you down if you're driving a vehicle. You're always safe in Far Cry 3.
5. The mortar (from FC2) adds another deadly weapon, particularly if you're on the receiving end.
6. The Buzzer certainly made a big difference in how I explored and fought the bad guys. It came in handy in a number of missions if you had one with you.
7. Stuff like medpacks auto-produce when you pick up the required plants.
8. Very customizable HUD although I prefer to turn everything off. It's a shooter. So, the less distractions onscreen, the better.
@jun_aka_pekto: Far Cry 4 is the only one I've played, but I like it a lot. It's not "thought provoking" or anything, but it is good old fashioned sandbox fun. And a lot of the features you highlighted over 3 are certainly things that make it enjoyable

Too bad they're not in Far Cry 3. I much prefer the tropical setting and mercs. I'd pay to have Far Cry 3 remastered to Far Cry 4 standards.
@mems_1224: No not really. There not Witcher 3 quality but at least each side mission has some kind of back story. Its better then doing the same 8 missions 10 times each.
They definitely have a similar base feel, but for me it is a fairly easy win for Horizon (at least so far, not finished yet).
@mems_1224: Well it is an action game. Like the Witcher its not the fact that your killing something its what your killing. Both games have a very diverse groups of enemies. FC didn't have the awesome battles and after liberating the 10th tower and stopping the 10 smuggling operation it got old.
Isn't Far Cry 4 essentially a bit better,
no. Far cry 4 was awful and worse than FC3 in every way.
far cry 3 is only good ubisoft game this decade.
@mems_1224: Um no... and some of the monsters are extremely difficult untill you get the right gear. FC primal was standard Ubisoft mission structure.
@Quicksilver128: not really. Every robot can easily be taken down with the sharpshot bow and hunter bow. Especially since the hardest enemies are the corrupted robots and they're all weak to fire.
I played far cry primal and horizon on hard and far cry by far had more difficult enemy encounters against both humans and animals as well as having far superior gameplay. The bow and melee in Horizon are shit. So is the taming mechanic. Far Cry's pet mechanic completely obliterates Horizon's half assed, useless override mechanic. Stealth is also much better in far cry. The stealth mechanic in Horizon is flat out broken and tedious more than it is fun.
The towers in horizon are also weaker. At least in far cry each tower is its own unique mini puzzle while the ones in Horizon are just walking up to the highest ledge and waiting a long fucking time for this slow ass robot to pass by.
Outposts in far cry are vastly superior too. There are multiple approaches and enemies will also attempt to sound the alarm and reinforcements are an actual threat. In Horizon I just ran into every bandit camp guns blazing and one person attempted to sound the alarm once and that was it. They're also more dynamic in far cry because you can use animals against the enemies. There is only one mission in horizon that allows that and it's not even a bandit outpost.
The only thing Horizon has going for it is it's story and even that is held back by bad writing, voice acting and standing around doing nothing while you listen to an audiolog play
both games are mediocre. horizon has a fairly interesting setting and a protagonist that isn't a thoroughly unlikable PoS, so i'll give this one to horizon.
@mems_1224: The tower missions in farcry should be better because thats about one of eight missions you will repeat over and over again.
And the Hunters and sharpshoot bows are not all the same. You need the Cara version of those weapons before you even think about batteling the toughest enemies. And using animals to fight enemies? You can do that all the time in Horizon. Im not sure what your talking about. And some of the robots take a good while to take down not to mention you can find yourself fighting a small army of them.
On top of that Horizon just has a far more interesting world to explore.
@Quicksilver128: the first sharpshot bow you can find has the tearblaster arrows and the first hunter bow has fire arrows. That's all you need to take anything down. The only other weapon you need if you want to get fancy is the sling for the electricity.
like I said, the override mechanic is trash. Robots you take over don't leave their area and you can't summon them. The only ones you can summon are the weak shitty ones you can ride and thats a 3 skillpoint upgrade.
8 different missions is more than horizon has. In horizon you do the cauldrons or follow a breadcrumb trail until you kill something or do a shitty bandit camp. There isn't much variety to the missions outside of that.
Some take a good while to take down but only because everything in that game is a bullet sponge.
Far Cry 3 was better because it pretty much perfected what it set out to do with Far Cry 2. It also had the more interesting villain, had a amazingly fun stealth system with the bow...
On the other hand Far Cry 4 is better because it improves on a lot of the systems in Far Cry 3, it has a better weapon arsenal, it has a chopper, and it has all of that stuff that jun_aka_pekto said ^^
I'm looking forward to playing Horizon, but right now I'm playing some older PS4 exclusives first. Infamous: Second Son is a much better sandbox than I was expecting, and the missions are very unique, which feels like a fresh of breath air. Eventhough it came out before the influx of open world games.
Horizon more fun to play and the world is more interesting. The gameplay is fun although I hope the sequel spice things up. I hope for things to become more self aware and mechanics more enforced. I also like shit like towers are more like an homage to far cry than a full on, "go climb alot of that gameplay". To some that like that shit maybe having a none hostile machine with that purpose is a joke and that it should have been far cry.
@Litchie: well, it has towers, bandit camps, hunting to gain ingredients for potions and upgrading your gear, picking plants. The only thing it does different is the setting but from a gameplay standpoint it's not doing much new except giving you big enemies to fight that take time to kill
@Juub1990: well duh. The main weapon you need is the sharpshot bow. Slingblast is also good but not really necessary. Tripcaster, the rope thing and the air shotgun are worthless though. I killed the majority of things using the two bows and electricity slingshot
Horizon is easily better than that copy paste Ubisoft garbage. If you don't agree you probably don't have a PS4 and you're probably butthurt.
@Juub1990: not even close. Ropecaster is useless. It doesn't hold the big robots down long and it loses effectiveness when you attack the target and it requires like 10 wires when you craft ammo. Not worth it. Tearblaster is redundant. Short range and takes up a weapon slot and does the same thing the sharpshot bow does but without the range. Load 1 or two tearblast arrows into the bow and that will drop almost any component from any robot immediately if you mod it right.
Hunter bow+sharpshot bow+slingshot+ blastsling=kill anything in under a minute.
Just finished Horizon. Really good game and gets my vote over Far Cry 3. The story is told well, the lead character is good and this is a real step up from Guerillas usual Killzone franchise. I'm looking forward to more from the Horizon IP.

No. That's not only wrong, it's also a lie. Let's see you take down a Behemoth, Thunderjaw, Stormbird among others in less than a minute.
You reeeeaaaaaallly want to paint this game as Far Cry, but it's not bro. It easily could have been if they wanted to, but it's not. I agree that there is a prevalence of "follow this trail" type missions, though unlike Far Cry (and some other games too) the fact that 90% of them have some backstory makes it less painful to do.
Also, do the Hunting trials dude. Some of the challenges are pretty cray-cray (in particular the level 30 Hunting Trials).
Someone else told me it's nothing like Far Cry. But yeah, I think I believe you more.
lol
Of course you do.
@mems_1224: Your little combo plain doesn't work on Very Hard. Ropecaster also holds down enemies even the big ones for like 30 seconds provided you don't hit them lol. How long do you want them to stay down?
Big enemies like Thunderjaws, Behemoths or Deathbringers have multiple parts and the tearblast arrows don't work well on them especially when they're charging at you and don't have any more slow time left.
I don't think you're far enough into the game to know that. That combo works on small and weak machines.

Joke post? those are all cake. Thunderjaws are worthless once you take off their guns. Behemonths you just roll around and launch grenades at them. Stormbird you just fill it with arrows. These aren't monster hunter enemies, they're all fairly simple.
How is it not far cry? everyone keeps saying its not far cry and no one has explained how it isn't apart from the setting and having slightly more complicated enemies.
the hunting trials are garbage and guess what other game has those?
