How can a console with highest failure rate in history considered success ?

i was commenting about the overall value of consoles lately , and someone told me you can't depend on hardware or software alone to determine value as they are both subjective, i wasn't that convinced , i thought games and software are subjective but hardware value isn't.So that Q came into my mind, How can a console with 50%+ failure rate considered a success or a real value,even if we really are taking all the factors in consideration, this horrible hardware should be removed immediately from any contest over top 100 best gaming consoles .... another word to describe it " a potentially peice of garbage"

There is no excuse, free repair or wutever, i just can't sit on edge waiting for my console to break any minute. i really dunthink supporters of this kind of hardware can bash any other consoles for any reason, i think hardware failures are the absolute thing that's not subjectives unlike games.

Well because it has the greatest online system ever and some great games

but imo PS3 is still better

It's making MS money, is it not? That's all it has to do.

1. It sells. (business perspective)

2. It has good games. (my perspective)

i went through 2 ps 1s and 3 ps2s over the course of their respective gens. were they successful or not?

Guys .... my OP is very clear, we all know the x360 failure rate reached more than 50% at some time ..... which is higher than any console ever, may be any machine ever.

Wii also brings money, PS3 is starting is bring money :D, but the x360 value is just too crappy to put it in any credible lists of good consoles.

dont know where you got 50 percentfrom especially since these numbers are of the end of the fiscal year 09'. now, since the consoles have been MORE reliable in the past year since then, i fail to see how it can jump up 26.3 percent in 9 months.

Actually, the Xbox beat the Gamecube in sales (though not by many millions). On the other hand, the Xbox lost MS billions, whereas the Xbox 360 is making them money, so that emphasises even more how much of a success it is, beside selling a lot more.

still junk but like i have said a pile of times here before i did not get all upset over it because it was sony that trained me to accept insanely high defect rates with the ps1 and ps2.

Also SquareTrade is logically likely to underestimate the failure rate of the 360, while overestimating the failure rate of the Wii and PS3.

I doubt the failure rate was ever 50% though, although I wouldn't doubt the claim that it has had the highest failure rate of any console.
