[QUOTE="GarGx1"]

I'm in the UK, my ISP is Virgin Media, I pay £11.50 a month for my internet (I get a good deal because I've been with Virgin for a long time) no download caps and no restrictions.

Last game I downloaded was Hitman Absolution, it took about 10 minutes (give or take)

I pay about double that for U-Verse, and for less than a quarter of the speed.

yeah you see you are the exception in the world in this case EU had such limitations but the last 3-4 years thinks improved drastically and i'm quite certain we are ahead of North america when comes to internet infrastructure.

Let alone bandwidth caps are a rare site now days If i can get a 8mbps connection for less than 18euros a month and i have at least 4 internet providers to choose from ( even though i live in a city with only 25000 population ) and i live in a small Eu country then thinks are looking good

Also my connection does not have bandwidth caps ( just like the vast majority of EU countries )

I'm in NYC and I get 50MB down/5MB up. DD is the future, just because you're way out there in the boonies and have to rub two copper wires on a chicken just to download a kilobyte that doesn't mean it won't become the norm in a few years.

So, just to get this straight, USA internet is supposed to become like Canada's? Wouldn't that be kind of like going back in time?

Shielder7

No actually Canada at one time had free usage like the US they're getting worse every year now.

That's funny cause the internet here has gotten better.

Go take your canadian(never trust the french) ignorance elsewhere.

Cogeco has actually gotten better. Incrementally, but definitely better. They upped speeds and bandwidth allowance, along with bringing higher-end services into my area.

UK, EU, and Australia have the crappiest internet service. That is all I heard about from my Aussie, Brit, Ireland, and Scotish friends on xbox live. Holy geez. I dont mind virtual console download for non-disc games but I prefer to have the disc and art if I pay for a title. Old system digital downloads no sweat. New stuff, I want the disc.marinevetstl
Crappiest? I would hardly call (in actual towns) speeds of 50mb download of unlimited usage crappy. For sure its not great everywhere, but everyone who is on 50mb will soon be unlocked to 100mb. England is quickly becoming good for internet. It does have terrible infrastructure though, but its only getting better and every package is pretty much unlimited download. Plus arrival of 4G, will mean less need for cabeling and more people will be onloaded onto wireless so naturally the cable service will improve :P

US is horrible too if you don't live in a city. Out in the country (and even JUST outside of cities) you can only get satellite which is extremely expensive and has ridiculously low data caps. There will never be a digital only age when the majority of people can't have access to affordable high speed internet and not have data restrictions.

you guys still have data caps? I haven't had a service with data caps in... 10 years give or take. I don't think we have any services that still use data caps (with the exception of mobile internet)

When the rest of the world operates under different download regulations than the US?

You want to know what it's like in Canada (and this is Ontario mind you) Here's your future US.

http://www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/Internet_access

The cheapest one is

Bell Fibe Internet 5/1

5Mbps Download
1Mbps Upload
15GB Usage

Ongoing price $39.95 /mo.

and Rogers

http://www.rogers.com/web/link/hispeedBrowseFlowDefaultPlans

$ 38.49
Up to
6 Mbps
download speed

Up to
256 Kbps
upload speed

20 GB
monthly usage allowance

5 Emails

2$ per GB overage charge.

Take a game like Halo 4 what's it 16gigs for both discs? Assuming you are close to your alounce without downloading games that's an extra 32$ just to download it on top of the initial price. And that's not including patch's DLC or anything else. Even if they lowered DD prices by 10$ (which they won't) You're still paying 82$ for a game that should only cost you 60$.

Digital Downloads taking over "yeah" not in Canada it ain't, I can only assume that the UK, EU, and Australia arn't much better probably worse.

Shielder7

I'm in Vancouver and I have 50Mb download and no limit.

BT are slowly rolling out fibre now. After being told they will be fined if they don't hurry up with it.
