How do you feel about the 8th generation so far? Did it live up to it's promise?

That's what I'm concerned about. The industry isn't like it was in the 7th gen. I don't think that we are going to see all of those amazing multiplat games like we saw in the 7th gen and before. The only big games we've seen so far are the usual games. Assassin's Creed, COD, Fifa, Madden, NBA, Metal Gear solid, Mortal Kombat, Batman, Uncharted, Halo, Dead Rising, etc.

Most of the memorable games last gen were new IPs. The way things are now, I just don't see this gen living up to what the other generations have accomplished.

I hope that E3 changes my mind. This gen isn't over yet, but I haven't experienced anything yet that truly makes me remember why I paid $400.

Not too bad, but I'm an odd one out. Last gen I only owned a Wii, and played a handful of Gamecube games and PS2 games that I never got to play lol. And a lot of Dark Souls on my roomate's PS3

I don't mind all the remasters, I'm getting to play all the games I missed out on. The Halo Collection especially stands out as my favorite game of the gen, and I'm excited to be getting Darks Souls 2 remaster for my birthday next month. I'm also really digging into Minecraft (haha) and playing some Killer Instinct. I just finished Final Fantasy Type 0 HD this weekend and was pretty let down though, might be my last unless they go back to turn based.

The remaster generation of consoles so weak they are still trying to play catchup to Crysis 2 from 2011. LEL.

This gen is going to be a long one I think. 2015 is essentially this gens 2007 (in practice, more like it's 2006) and I am expecting Witcher 3, Batman and MGSV to prove that like Bloodborne and Pillars Of Eternity have so far. Heck, even Ori and the Blind Forest is an incredible game, as is Helldivers. But speaking non indie, this year is going to be a really good one all round. Then 2016 has Uncharted 4, Street Fighter V, The Division, Final Fantasy XV, Zelda U, Gears Of War 4, Quantum Break. Yeah it's all good and I expect this generation to come into it's own in the next 18 months or so.

Where is the option: 'Yes, this gen has been great'?

I don't get the hate! A few years ago everyone was concerned about PS4 and Xbox3 being all about move and kinect, and just twice as powerful as PS3 and 360. Instead, we got 10+ times the power and 100% focus on core gaming. Haters gonna hate, right?

Personaly, i jumped early to play games with better graphics, higher resolutions and with a classic controller in my hands. Everything is going as i have planed :)

I already explained why i'm happy with this generation. Also i'm not one of those kids who think that indies are not games and remasters should not exist. I see lots of diversity, from mainstream retail games to remasters i didn't have the oportinity to play before, and small but equaly good indie games.

As for all those PS3/360 owners who have yet to jump in, do you realise that current gen consoles are selling alot more than last gen ones?

all I KNOW is that i saw several bro gamers who said im just sure on xb1 or ps4 and they don't like an there ready to give it up and somehow try to get into pc gaming

Still haven't played that game that blows me away yet. For the 360 it was Oblivion.
I popped that game in and said to myself holy crap...this is "next-gen" On the PS4
I haven't played a game yet that has impressed that much. Here's hoping Witcher 3

Got a PS4 after all the hype, still 0 games to play besides bloodborne

The consoles are absolutely pathetic, I have 0 reason to move on from my PC as it can already do everything these so called "next gen" consoles do and better, only thing I' missing out are a bunch of remasters and a few exclusives that wind up coming to the PC eventually.

This has been a fantastic console generation.

This gen sucks overall. Almost nothing but the same crap with a slightly higher resolution. Not to mention all the remasters which shows how pointless a new console gen is.

WiiU easily wins games-wise.

PS4 wins sales and just barely got its first worthwhile game.

Xbone... I dont know what MS is doing anymore, nor do I care.

Gamespot.com has this strange format now every since the format change a year or two back, it's a glitch, but let me explain. When you link a ton of videos and make a giant OP, it's rough on mobile users, but it's fine if it's just one page of a giant OP. That's another reason we avoid huge quote chains, it ruins the threads, makes them unreadable.

Go ahead and check page 2 of this thread. You'll see your huge OP on that page as well. There is no page 3 yet, but if there is, it will happen again.

The problem is when you include a POLL. If you make a giant OP (Opening Post) and then insert a POLL, you will force your giant OP with multiple video links, pics, and text page after page after page making it hard on the forumers.

One way around this is to make a second post that is giant, but the first post is JUST A POLL. Or...don't include a Poll if you are going to make a giant post, since that will force your huge OP on all of the pages.

I'm not sure if you knew, but I couldn't read this thread from the gym on my mobile today and you may be unaware of this problem.

Many, many users in my situation out and about will just not post a thread that isn't user friendly. The TC won't know why. Your thread will die an earlier death with less participants due to the unfriendly nature of the giant OP + POLL combo. I came home to tell you specifically using my PC, but many people wouldn't bother doing that.

The only console to not suck this generation is the WiiU because it has meaningful games AND backwards compatibility.

Had the PS4 and Xbox One allowed you to play your 360 or PS3 games this generation would suck less.

Not too shabby, as far as the Xbox One is concerned. So far, the X1 games have caught my attention these last few months since MCC, Forza 2, and Sunset were released. I haven't "jumped in" yet because of all the backlogs I've been playing on my 360. My PS3 is now regulated as a dust collector and few PSN games I bought. No need to Netflix on that since my stand alone Smart BR covers that, as well as my 360.

I might pick up a WiiU in a few years down (or maybe not, if NX becomes digitally compatible with past Nintendo games).

PS4 - I have no interest in, just yet. And by the time 2016 rolls in, I would have already bought an X1 and a number of games by then. I really don't see any interesting games coming for it other than UC4 but that's next year. And Last of Us 2? No info whatsoever. BloodBORE is not my cup of tea. A new Killzone game? or any game Guerrilla Games are working on? Nothing on a new Jax or Ratchet?

The thing is, they weren't very promising to begin with. The only thing they promised were the worst consoles ever I have to say.

No BC, what MS tried to pull, and lackluster specs saw to that.

Pretty sure it's next gen. Nothing touches Mario Kart 8 right now, or Smash Bros U.

The systems are pretty good so far. I play my ps4 probably the least, but It's used to for blu-ray/amazon prime streaming and I love that there is headphone jacks in the controllers for watching movies when the gf is asleep. They need to cut down on the remakes though, or at least focus on the right ones to remake.

It's been a slow start with much cash being wrung out of the last gen systems and many next gen ports.

There have been a few awesome games so far, plenty of good ones, but things will really get going this year and the next. Games like Witcher 3 and Arkham Knight are gonna be very tasty.

This is by far the worst generation ever, so far. Luckily, Nintendo still provides with a few gems. Sadly, they are pretty much the only ones.

It feels like a continuation of last gen. So it's not bad, but it's not really doing anything amazing.

This is the first time consoles have come out where I'd whole heartily recommend investing a little bit more money into a pc.

Not just because most games appear on all the platforms, but moreso because I think people would genuinely enjoy and appreciate the games they do like, more. The better performance, the higher resolution, etc. And when there is a dull period of releases one can easily find something old to buy on steam.

Can you asshats just shut the goddamn **** up a moment and let this generation actually get underway before deciding to pull out the flamethrowers? I know at least half of this shit is just some of ya'll pissed as all hell that Sony is running away with this gen but the other half of you need to take your Ritalin and then smoke a blunt or something. This generation was supposed to be the era of tablets and smart phones and now here you guys are acting like full Gen8 games are supposed to be pumped out of some magic Willy Wonka Fun Factory in California.

I think what's needed is a real breakout kinda game like Gears & Oblivion did in 2006 for 360 which was clearly not possible on previous gen consoles and IMO, Forza Horizon 2 comes the closest to doing that thus far but a real biggie is needed sooner rather than later. E3 should give us some clues.

People are aware it is still young. These two consoles simply never garnered the excitement like past gens. That is what people are let down by. Like you say it is just starting to get underway yet at the same time it already feels old.

:) I am going to make a thread making fun of this one the day after all the keynotes and Bethesda's show to see if people still feel this way. It will be good fun. I'm really enjoying the 3DS, that's about it. I have a Ps4 and have barely touched it and I sold off my WiiU. I don't have anything against the WiiU at all, but the only game I really played a lot on it was Bayonetta 2. I'm just going to stick to using my PC and 3DS until something comes out for Ps4 that I want besides Bloodborne.

I'm just saying that this is the first generation where I've yet to see the "I cannot wait to play it" mentality. I don't mean it in the sense of there won't be some decent games, but every past generation has had some kind of excitement surrounding the tech in the machines. I've stated that the best visuals on ps4 are the best out there, but these games have been somewhat shallow. By the time any meaty games arrive that excitement period of new(er) tech will be long gone--and most of these games come out on pc anyways.

These two consoles simply arrived a bit too late, or a bit too early. Soon enough display tech will exceed 1080p as the norm and there will be no way around them feeling like a past gen.

Needless to say, I don't agree at all.

I'm not impressed by this generation. It seems as though none of the console companies are really even trying. Ports and remasters for everyone. Very little original. Hopefully some good games are announced during E3.

The games suck so far and at first glance the PS4/X1 specs appear beastly for a console until you find out about their bottlenecks. I'm not even going to mention the Wii-U.

Power has always decided gens. The Wii and the Wii U were always a generation behind. Nintendo just does their own thing these days and that is fine. I don't own either of the Wii consoles, but I have all previous Nintendo consoles. Why do you think that is? Wii consoles are last gen hardware with the same old games they have been pumping out for decades with new gimmicks. Nintendo has been dead to me and many hardcore gamers for 2 console generations now.

Nope. Nothing changed this gen. At all. Not a goddamn thing. Especially for PC.

While I have gotten plenty of enjoyment out of my PS4, and enjoy the ability to buy things from my phone, and it's ready for me when I get home, and the controller, and being able to hop into the store, download something, then hop back, I have yet to play a single game this entire generation that convinced me it couldnt have been done on 360/PS3, and I dont think I will. This gen is gen 7.5 as far as im concerned.

Nope. They are Nintendo's 7th and 8th generation of consoles. Your opinion or mine doesn't change how those in the industry define it. Devs have openly called the WiiU an 8th gen console

Honestly at the moment this generation of consoles is pretty meh at best. Neither system has had a true must by. I mean Bloodborne and Sunset Overdrive are nice but nothing screams buy me now. Honestly that last generation was so great that this one just feels like the terrible sequel. Another thing that is really hurting this generation is the ability to be online. Yeah it's great to be able to play people around the world but look what has come from have the internet just about always on. I need a darn update ever what seems five months. DLC is coming the day of the game and in some cases a slew of DLC is already ready to go before I buy the game. Dang games have to be patched before I can even begin to install the game on my system. The game may have a part of it always online which slows down the frame rate because that is way to much process power to pull from the internet 24/7 and run the game at 1080P at the same time. Just a very underwhelming generation. Also it didn't help that the PS3 and 360 were being supported with games about 2 years after the new console were made.

Yet, almost no developers support it because it is last gen hardware. Like I said, Nintendo does it's own thing. Most multi-platform devs don't even take the Nintendo consoles into consideration when they are setting their target platforms. Nintendo should just stop making consoles. Their hardware is shit. People just care about their games and they should release those games on better platforms. Nintendo likes to be in control though and they have banked on dumb fanboys and casuals to buy their hardware regardless. Unfortunately, that is no longer working like it used to. That is why you are seeing them move into the mobile space and we will see what the future has in store.
