Poll How do you feel about the 8th generation so far? Did it live up to it's promise? (121 votes)

Yes. This is the best console generation so far. 7%
Nope. These consoles suck. 31%
Kinda. One/two of the consoles are good. 19%
The consoles are fine. The GAMES suck. 23%
Everything sucks. 19%

Did the consoles live up to what they promised to be? Did the 8th console generation live up to your expectations?

For me...No. It F-ing sucks.

I know. I know. This generation isn't over yet. But let's be real here. The Nintendo NX, whatever it is, will be out by 2017 most likely. (Hopefully not sooner) If it's a console, the it's officially the 9th generation. What else can come out this gen? SoulCalibur? Fallout? Bioshock? Then what?

There is no way that we are going to get as many amazing games as we got in the 7th gen. Not even close.

I'll give my thoughts on the consoles so far..

Xbox One. "All in One" entertianment system...What a load of crap. I hate how the Xbone has to be online JUST for me to watch videos or play music. No loading from the hard drive like the PS3/360. that sucks...Furthermore, the whole slitscreen thing doesn't do anything for me. The screens are too small. The Xbox One just shouldn't be an "all in one" entertainment system. As a game system, it's great...But not much better than the 360.

PlayStation 4. Hmm. Didn't buy one at launch. Didn't care for the games. Said from the begening that the games didn't look like much and everything was over hyped. i've enjoyed it, for the most part. I think that the main menu is junky when you have a lot of stuff. Just like the Xbox One, the PS4 can't play music/videos/pictures from the hard drive like the PS3/360. To make matters worse, both of them have to install games....i had to delete space on the hard drive JUST to play Bloodborne...WTF? You didn't see that kind of crap back in the 5th and 6th gen. You just put the game in and it played. it's dumb. As a game console, it's great...Just not what people hyped it up to be.

Wii U. Where do I start? Welp...It COULD of been one of Nintendo's best consoles, had they done everything right. I defended it in the begening. I said "Just wait until Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2, Mario 3D World, Zelda U and Smash come out. how can a system sell when it has no system sellers?" it COULD of sold pretty good...But it didn't. Why? Because Nintendo didn't do anything with it. They didn't hype up the games enough. (or at all in Bayonetta 2's case.) They didn't come out with new colors. No big bundles. No limited editions. No marketing. No nothing. They just put it out there and said, "here! buy it." No effort what soever and frankly, I'm disappointed in them. Had 3rd parties actually used the Wii U's features, it could of been an amazing system for multiplats. Watch_Dogs on Wii U, done right, could of been a great example.

The system is a great video game console. Without it's exclusives, this generation would of been a comeplete disaster. But from a bussiness standpoint, the Wii U IS a disaster.

Ok. I got that out of the way. What's your opnion on this generation so far? Love it, or hate it?

Every fucking day with the I'm disappointed threads. A year and 4 months into the Next gen and there are just as many if not more solid games as there were at this point last gen and the gen before that.

And no the WiiU did not start the current gen. It's a 360 with a bootleg iPad controller.

Yeah agreed... A bit harsh to judge it after a year and a bit. Got some great games coming this year.

Same. But no, the WiiU DID start the 8th gen. Power doesn't decide gens.

Power has always decided gens. The Wii and the Wii U were always a generation behind. Nintendo just does their own thing these days and that is fine. I don't own either of the Wii consoles, but I have all previous Nintendo consoles. Why do you think that is? Wii consoles are last gen hardware with the same old games they have been pumping out for decades with new gimmicks. Nintendo has been dead to me and many hardcore gamers for 2 console generations now.

Yeah I tend to agree...

Honestly it's been meh. The PS4 took awhile for me to finally have interest. The Wii U had a drought in its first year. And I have no interest in the Xbone.

3DS has been good so far.

PC is still king.

lol Vita.

Nope. They are Nintendo's 7th and 8th generation of consoles. Your opinion or mine doesn't change how those in the industry define it. Devs have openly called the WiiU an 8th gen console

Yet, almost no developers support it because it is last gen hardware. Like I said, Nintendo does it's own thing. Most multi-platform devs don't even take the Nintendo consoles into consideration when they are setting their target platforms. Nintendo should just stop making consoles. Their hardware is shit. People just care about their games and they should release those games on better platforms. Nintendo likes to be in control though and they have banked on dumb fanboys and casuals to buy their hardware regardless. Unfortunately, that is no longer working like it used to. That is why you are seeing them move into the mobile space and we will see what the future has in store.

I wont argue with you on the business efficacy of Nintendo choosing to go weaker than other console makers, but it doesn't magically make the console NOT their 8th release. At this point this coming down to your personal feelings on Nintendo and we'll just agree to disagree on the generation thing.

PC encompasses all generations as it is always evolving and is backward compatible. PC advancements are more driven by things like APIs (Direct X, Open GL, etc.). As those feature sets evolve, the hardware incrementally evolves with it.

@BassMan:

I am well aware of that. I guess I am just old fashioned. The Wii was stronger than the Gamecube, and WiiU is stronger than the Wii. So Nintendo is advancing over their own previous gen, hence next gen. It is us, the forum dwellers, who are a minority in the consumer base, that compare to each other and count pixels and scrutinize to a **** hair.

The consoles are gooThey made them to be affordable.$400 is a really good price for a new console.Don't forget that ps3 and xbox 360 launch price was around $650-$700.The problem is that there are no good games. But 2016 will be a hot gaming year.I think the new gen is finally waking up.

Don't bump threads that have been inactive for more than 30 days.
