The cows here at SW are delusional, it's like buying two sandwiches, one being about 2/3 the price of the other then arguming the more expensive one was ACTUALLY cheaper becuase it has a slightly higher verity of lettuce. It's just warping reality to the point of stupidity BoloTheGreat
The TC basically asked the wrong question. You can tell because of the first post he made reflected that he was focusing on a similar question, which is: which console is cheaper to a hardcore gamer over time? I think everyone knows the answer to the question he asked because it's obvious that $200

Wow the logic of some people. What you said makes no sense and you analogy is super flawed. Who in there right mind plays games this gen without a hard drive? Dont you lems see what MS is doing ? Yah there giving you a striped down pinto and saying now go buy the tires and wheels you need to drive it.

The elite is cheaper than any of the Ps3's.

Shoved down the consumers throat? These are different consoles with different capabilities. Just because the Xbox 360 is cheap up front gives you choice, doesn't make it an amazing value.

Let me ask you something. Which version of the Xbox 360 do you have? (if you have a 20gb version or any other we will just say that's equivalent to the current 60gb version). Also, how many months/years have you played on xbox live? Lastly, is there any other accessory you own excluding controllers. mD-

I never said the Xbox 360 had amazing, or even "great" value. I merely asked a simple question: If I need to play... Fallout 3 for example, why would I spend 400 on the PS3 when I can play the exact same game (though it's a superior multiplatform game on the X360 anyways) on the cheaper Xbox 360?

And how is my purchase history relevant again?

You're refering the better experience to only on 360? Then you are clearly trolling lol. If we are talking about a Multiplat game = same game on all systems. The 350 dollar system is the cheapest system to play the truely better experience (online).Stevo_the_gamer

Huh? The vast majority of multiplatform games are indeed equal, if not, superior on the Xbox 360 then on the PS3. That's not "trolling" is any way shape or form. Where the heck did you pull that weird assumption out there? Again, the Playstation 3 is not $349.99 -- it's $399.99 or $499.99. I'm interested in Fallout 3, which system should I get? :)

Damnit im talking about the Pro. lol. get it? No your trolling, SW says, "if not better on 360" (a multiplatform game). Considering fallout3 I call that inconsistant with GS. Oblivion: GS says PS3 virsion is technically better. And the constant - Call of duty 4.

I know what you're saying and it makes to get the xbox 360 for that game if you want to play it. What I was asking about your purchases has nothing to do with the multiplatform argument you were having with the other person. I was just going to make a point about when you said, "Shoved down the consumers throat?".

The same price? 200 = 400? Now, mate ... Uh, well. I'm sorry to say... but, your math? yeah, it's a tad bit off. Microsoft forces things down consumers throats? Liek HD-DVD? Oh wait, optional. Wi-fi? Oh wait, optional. XBL? Oh wait, optional. Am I missing something here?

LOL no point in argueing with you. Like Most on SW=talking to a wall. If you cant see the PS3 ia a all around better value then thats fine.

$199< $399. Fact.

First off, no. $199 is a smaller number than $399. Do you see how that works?

Second, Sony does shove extras down your throat. MS at least gives you the option to buy Wi-Fi and the like, should you need it. Sony forces you to buy a Blu-Ray player and Wi-Fi with each PS3,

It should be clear he is on one side and he is not going to be changed no matter what answer you give him. But I love how lems fall back on the price. It gets people to talk about something.

What? Are you unaware of the very meaning of the term "trolling"? Your posts are making me believe that you know not the meaning of such a term. Don't throw around a term if you know not the meaning of it, mate. Capiche? Also, I recomend re-reading through your post before clicking on the "sumbit" button. Some of your wording is incredibly difficult to understand -- it's all over the place. Stick to one tangeant.

That's nice, but again, the vast majority of multiplatform games are in fact, equal or superior on the Xbox 360. It's been this way since the beginning. There are the minority in which some games do, indeed, become superior on the PS3 but again, vast majority are equal and/or better on the Xbox 360. Oh, and like you said, Oblivion is a perfect example of a superior PS3 multiplatform (though best on PC) -- I guess that extra one year of developer time payed off for Bethesda, but I digress.

My setup:

PS3 80 GB- $400

HDMI Cable- $30

Total: $430

___________

Xbox 360 20 GB- $200 from ebay

Network Adapter- $50 from amazon

Extra Controller- $50

VGA Cable- $10 from Toys R US clearance

Charge Cable-$10 used from Gamestop

REchargeable Battery- $10

Xbox Live Costs so far: $14

Total: $344

__________

Does all of this seem pointless? That's because it is. No additional options will make a "standard" experience so we go by the minimum costs at retail, which is PS3: 400 and 360 : 200.

I just wanted to know how is 360 cheaper than the PS3? I am not a fanboy or trying to persuade people to convert or whatever. I just generally want to know how is it cheaper. I am not talking about the arcade version of 360. That version is barely anything at all.

Let's break things down. For 300 dollars you can get a system and it comes with a headset and HD cables with a controller that needs batteries and does not take rechargeable batteries. They system is known to fail somewhat often although not as bad as it was before. So you might want to buy the longest warranty which is probably around 50 to 100 dollars. To play games online with 360 you need to pay 50 dollars a year to play. Let's just say the console goes on another 3 to 4 years before the next one comes out. Right there is 200 dollars. If someone has wireless internet they need to buy an adaptor aat 100 dollars (maybe) the 360 can read flash drives butcannot copy things from flash drives, does not have an internet browser, has a weaker D-pad, has in game chat, you can play your own music in every game, everygame on the store has a demo.Achievements are in every game. It can stream from media server It has a good library of games in all genre's except platformers.

For 400 dollars you can get a system that comes with a chargable controller with the capability of playing blu ray movies.a headset costs 40 dollars and HD cables around 10 to 20 dollars. It has free online, and does not have cross game chat and every game in store does not have a demo. It has both wireless andwired setups. Controllers don't need batteries. Charge cables are10 dollars. It is backward compatible with PS1 games. It does have an internet browser, it can copy things from flash drives, itcanstream from media server. It cannot playcustom soundtrackfrom hardware and developer needs to add in the option to do so. Trophieshave been in most games startingin 09. It has a more suitable D-pad. You can use PC gamepads on the system. You can install another operating system if you wanted to, orupgrade the hard drive with out hassle for the most part. Game library is good except for a somewhat lack of RPG's which is improving. Other than the occassional yellow light of death or laser screw up, there isn't a need to buy a warranty that much, but you still could at50 to 100 dollars. It has functionality with it's handheldthe PSP.

PS3 400 +30+ 20+100(just in case)= 540

360 300+50(a year) +100(warranty preferable)+100(adaptor if needed) =550 depending on how many years yoiu buy Live, if you have the system for 3 more years than it will cost you 700.Once again how is 360 cheaper? I am not understanding people's logic. even if you deduct the adaptor the system still costs 600 in the long run. Isn't that the original price of the PS3?

gamenerd15

I fully agree with all your points but I'm sorry to say you are probably wasting your time, because no matter how many facts and numbers you state with regards to the overall costs and value of each console, Lemmings will always ignore certain points and never agree with you. It's a no-win situation.

Because we all know every 360 owner on System Wars owns a 360 Arcade model and apparently nobody here plays on XBL. Right?

No I'm not. How you are using "vast majority" is only said in SW. You quoted me! Stop making it into about you. I was talking about the $350 system which is the 360. And thats all I'm talking about. Im not going to go into your little dream about how everyone (GS) says "vast majority" of multiplat games have the better experiance on 360.

Right off of the shelf, the Xbox is far less expensive that the PS3. By a lot. But if you want it to be remotely useful, you have to cough up more money. An Arcade version of the 360 has a hilariously small amount of memory on the hard drive. Less than 1 GB. You will have to buy another if want to save your game. You will have to buy a wireless adapter if you are wireless and intend to play Live, which, almost everyone does. Seriously. And the 50 dollar fee for live. So yes, the 360 is very cheap right off of the shelf, just don't expect much from it. If you want it to be worth while, you will pay money up to the point of it being more expensive for the PS3. Can we all go do something else now? Please?

Why are the cows so unable to do this simple arithmetic? It IS cheaper, there are no two ways about it. £250 (elite + 3 games + extra controller) is less than £300 (Ps3+1 game)

Keep in mind that it's different in the US compared to Europe.

True, but no matter what continent we talk about, the ps3 is still more expensive.

I fully agree with all your points but I'm sorry to say you are probably wasting your time, because no matter how many facts and numbers you state with regards to the overall costs and value of each console, Lemmings will always ignore certain points and never agree with you. It's a no-win situation.

Because we all know every 360 owner on System Wars owns a 360 Arcade model and apparently nobody here plays on XBL. Right?

Rofl, so true. But, I think that people only do that to try to prove that the Xbox 360 option is the cheapest, which is true but not even close to being practical AT ALL. Millions of people play on xbox live and the arcade version is probably the least popular option.

And this somehow justifies a lem saying their 360 is cheaper vs. PS3

[QUOTE="mD-"][QUOTE="BoloTheGreat"] Why are the cows so unable to do this simple arithmetic? It IS cheaper, there are no two ways about it. £250 (elite + 3 games + extra controller) is less than £300 (Ps3+1 game)

Communistsheep

Keep in mind that it's different in the US compared to Europe.

True, but no matter what continent we talk about, the ps3 is still more expensive.

The Elite and PS3 are the same price in the US. He was talking about the Xbox Elite

[QUOTE="The_Game21x"][QUOTE="hy4k"]

you pay less money for it. when you pay less money for something it's cheaper

mD-

This is all that needs to be said.

Unfortunately it's not that simple if you want to think about getting the most of what the Xbox 360 can do long term...

The reason you can't make a judgement based on a long term is because their is no valid claim of how much you use on a long term, you assume we buy alot of extra stuff.

Well, unless you are saying that you or some one you know owns a 360 arcade and has not spent any money on it aside from buying the very console itself, Yeah, you do buy a lot of extra stuff.

And what about those who have pro, why compare the cheapest ps3 to the most expensive 360?

360 pro, one wifi adaptor for 20 bucks, and live for a year, 40 bucks. Still under 300 bucks. Your point?

PS3 consumes more electricity than Xbox360, you should factor that in too.

Xbox360 came out 1 year earlier than PS3, if you bought a PS3 and Xbox at their respective launch date, then you need to amortize some of the cost for the extra usage of the first year, you should factor that as well.

Ok, how about this. Everyone I know with a xbox 360 has had xbox live for an average of 2 years. If you are a hardcore gamer who likes their xbox 360, there's a very good chance you'll use pay about $30 per year on live.

Because for all intents and purposes beyond fanboy concepts to go out right now! right this minute and go to bestbuy, or wal-mart or someplace and to get a game system you can get an arcade,or pro for cheaper then it would be to buy a ps3.
If you want to play a game go out right now, buy an arcade or pro and you can get it cheaper then a ps3.
