I can tell you how Halo is overrated, coming from a guy who used to not like it... to a guy who actually enjoys the game quite a bit.
It's great, but it's overrated. How is it overrated??? People act like it's the best game ever made, the midnight launch was insane, I've literally read where people have called it the "most complete game ever" on here.
While it's a great game, I think it's overrated. It's great, but not the second coming some pretend it to be.
IMO Halo sucks. But i have no problem with people liking it. Like whatever game you want and call it the best game ever. So what. I think it sucks though.

Generally people "prefer" gamepads when they haven't spent much time with the keyboard and mouse for shooters.
You are far to set in your opinions. I consider that completely false. I'm a regular PC gamer, and when it comes to FPS, I prefer a gamepad. I have Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Half-Life 2, and multiple other shooters on PC, but I also have them on 360 if it is on it. And I prefer it on 360.
It's easly the best console developed FPS series on the market. It appeals to "hardcore" and "casual" gamers alike. It has fantastic online. The game controls so well that it rivals most PC FPS's, it even has a decent story for a FPS.

Exactly, for me is just another shooter it doenst have anything that good, i mean the multiplayer is pretty fun but honestly that mediocre campaign is just too average, definitely not the OMFG game that every single kid claim it is.

Hermits tend to hate it the most because some people compare it to PC shooters and some say Halo is better. Hermits can't seem to grasp the fact that there are people (like me) that have played dozens of PC shooters and still think Halo is the better game. I've gotten more enjoyment out of Halo 3 multiplayer this gen than any other shooter, although the Hidden Source and Zombie Panic come close.
I don't care for it. I find the story, setting, characters, weapons, and even core gameplay all incredibly boring. Not to mention the online isn't for me and the community isn't exactly the best. The singleplayer isn't entertaining enough to warrant more than 1-2 playthroughs and the controls feel too arcade-like (Master Chief runs like he's on ice skates). Plus there's the numerous online glitches, etc. Of course it doesn't do anything new either, and what it does do it merely manages to succeeed at being decent in.
The biggest reason Halo was such a success was it's accessibility. It's incredibly easy to pick up and play (Bungie designed it that way themselves), and as you continue to play you learn more techniques (and sometimes glitches) that put you ahead of other players. It has some pretty solid online servers too, and a good variety of gametypes and changes things up with the added vehicular combat elements. It's a game that with all these features can appeal to multiple FPS-player types quite easily.

There's nothing wrong with thinking Halo is the better game in that instance. It's when people spew opinions of the game like fact, or when they claim something about Halo is better when it really isn't (like technical graphics or precision aiming) that tends to annoy the more level-headed Hermits.
Halo is definately an enjoyable title, although I wouldn't have done more than rented it had I not beaten it at a friend's house.

Yeah, I'm serious. It's possibly the most hated game series on the 'net, not just System Wars. Even in the G4 IRC chat, there's a bot that will kick/ban anyone that says the word Halo. Even talking about the game gets you banned there. I've seen bitter hatred from cows and hermits, but mostly hermits. I mean I've seen people bash games before, but the comments I've seen about Halo (on IGN, Kotaku, Gametrailers, and many other sites/forums) are really vicious and hateful. The game is so reviled on the internet, it overshadows all the positive reviews it recieved.

as much as I hate Halo, I have to say hell no to this statement. while it pretty much launched the age of multiplayer FPS's and sold extremely well, it can't hold up today.
I do try and ignore the hate and focus on the reviews, but the amount of hate is still pretty astonishing, lol.
As for reviews, I think COD 4 may have overshadowed Halo 3. COD 4 was also the best-selling game of 2007...so I'm wondering why more people don't hate COD 4. :D

when comparing CoD4 and Halo3 for me personally, i prefer Halo3. SP gets a big fat Tie in my book on both games but the MP stands out in Halo3 more, soley because of the online splitscreen.

shooters are good for nothing but a quick shot of adrinaline theres no lasting value, in general i don't think ANY shooter so far (ever) should have gotten such a high score as 9.5. (unless you call mgs4 a shooter)

It's overrated because people think of it as a generic FPS game with no redeeming qualities, not just because it's popular. Not all popular games get called overrated. In the case of HALO3 it very much deserves to be called overrated cause that it is. It's an 8.5.

i think online multiplayer isn't that good, just about getting the powerweapons and kill each other
Because its an awesome game on a system that some people don't like (for whatever reason). Therefore it must be overrated, or else your system of choice doesn't look as good. Some call it "strategy"... I call it "fanboyism".

The "noob tube" is the reason I don't play Hardcore Search and Destroy any more. 90% of the time thats all one or both teams will use to win. Its ridiculous.
I especially hate when people brag about the kills they get with it. Thats like saying you're awesome with nuclear bombs because you hit something when you dropped one.

Yea noobtube = use UAV and shoot in the direction the DOT is.
i absolutely hate it when people say halo takes no skill. it takes the same, if not more skill than cod4 because when you get attacked from behind, you can actually defend yourself. In cod4, whoever sees the other person first wins.

Both games are easy to learn how to play. They are also both difficult to master. In essence, both games require the same amount of skill to master them.
It's not Halo itself that makes the game overrated. It's the fact that fanboys saying that it's the best game ever that makes it overrated. I've had plenty of fun with Halo, and I think it's a quality game. Is it the best game ever? Heck no. I could name several games that are better than Halo, but I too lazy to list them.
Halo is a decent gaming series, but it boggles my mind how some people think Halo 1 was the best FPS ever.
I liked the new regenerating health system, which was a neat twist to the usual health kits, and digged the AI, which was the best I had seen at that time. It also had GREAT split-screen. However, people seem to ignore the absolutely horrendous cut-and-paste level design, some of the worst I've seen in any FPS, which results in extremely repetitive levels (The Library? Anyone?) and makes for a boring game overall. The game also lacked weapon and gameplay variety.
