[QUOTE="Not-A-Stalker"]The ONLY things PSN has better are dedicated servers and it's free. Pretty much anything else you can imagine, it's better on Xbox Live than PSN... if PSN even has it.GirlGirlGirls

WTF? :? Aren't like the best cow around these parts?

PSN is Free..... so it's better then XBL.

R6V online is the same on PS3 and XBL.

I'm no Cow. :(

PSN being free doesn't necessarily make it better than XBL. It all depends on if the person wants the features offerd with XBL, or if he just wants to play games online and doesn't care about all the extras.

And I don't know about R6V. I've never played the 360 version, but I hear that the 360 has a lobby system? That is the ONE thing that R6V on PS3 lacks. I hate having to search for a game then get put in a game with 2 players... So I have to keep quitting and rejoining to find a good room with people that will actually communicate.

Only thing i found different about PSN and XBL are that PSN has less download activity content and XBL has more, and more ppl on XBL have microphones than on PS#(you can use bluetooth or usb doesn't matter) but as far as playing online they're both equal i've lagged before on XBL servers and i've lagged before on PSN servers but for the most part both play well online and both can only get better.

[QUOTE="musicalmac"]Just to get this out of the way- 50 bucks a YEAR is practically free, and it helps keep out more 10 year olds than free online would. Wanted to get that straight.GirlGirlGirls

You ever played Halo 2 online son?

Ever play PS2 online? Halo 2 is like heaven compared to that.

Ignore the gimmicks, PSN is almost Live's level. Just without the gimmick features. It's not "far" that most fanboy claims.

I don't have to install demos that I download on live.

Everything downloads much faster on live.

XBOX updates don't take15 minutes of my time, they take about 10 seconds.

There are games worth playing on live. PSN- Resistance....

The playstation store interface is terrible

I could go on, but I've made my point.

Saying that it is is just not enough for me.

What makes Live better than psn?

What specific feature does Live have that warrants paying for it (whether $20 or $50, etc)?

gamenux

A better question is why do you think PSN is on par with Live?

psn has free online play and that is the #1 reason why I use psn: To play games online.

Chatting online is cool, but I did not spend money to chat. If I want to I can use the instant messenger on my PC.

I remember saying those same exact words when I owned a PS2 and all my friends who had went from PS2 to 360 said "360 online is better"

Then I bought a 360 and realized how wrong I was. So my next question is..

Have you used XBL, or are you one of these cows bashing it because of its price?

Thing is, those servers are probably going bye bye next year.

What makes you say that?

Metal Gear Online makes me nervous. >_>

It's funny how Xbox live HD Movies and shows delete themselves after a week.

At least these won't suddenly delete themselves. :D

DarkBunnie

The "rented" Marketplace movies only cost a few dollars to watch versus $30 a pop for those blu ray movies you probably only watch once or twice the whole time you own them.

neither does it take that long on PSN :? You could probably download a 200MB file in 20 minutes or less off PSN...

What I say is PSN has everything you need A good online mutliplayer with mostly no lag. (dedicated servers) A unified friends list where you can see what your friends are doing. And a single login for all games. Home which is really good for communicating and having mutliplayer games and interaction. Live has a lot of extra things which most people don't really need for a good online experiance but a lot of people want it. And they pay $50 for it.

It takes me 25 seconds to download a 50MB File from PSN and Live.

2MB a Second connection. ;)

http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox-360/the-darkness/801472p1.html

As I write this, I find myself becoming even more annoyed, because Rampart is in my living room just waiting to be enjoyed, but I know that this particular version will only leave me empty inside. Boy, I sure am glad I put off watching the second season of "Entourage" for the half-hour it took to download the stupid thing.

That's right. What passes for "background downloading" on the PS3 is only valid in the loosest sense of the term. While background downloading, you really can't do anything except paw through your collection of saves in the media bar or look for more garbage to buy off of the PlayStation Network. You can't, say, watch a DVD or even play a videogame while background downloading. Um... I'm sorry, but that's stupid.

Sorry, this guy trumps you in believability. ;)

usually I agree with your posts but this one I dont. I can tell you I have downloaded and played a game at the same time. I have not tried to watch a movie though.

All Xbox 360 content (video, games, etc) comes with Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. If you have the 360 hooked up to one then it will do it.

yeah, even the ps2 could do dobly digital 5.1. But he's talking about "dolby tureHD" Dolby trueHD is one of the highest quality audio you can get besides Master audio. It only comes with blu-ray or HD-DVD movies (no games) and can only be transmitted through HDMI 1.3. I think that's the same case with uncompressed LPCM too.

PSN doesn't have:

  • Infrastructure that allows the community to self-govern:
    • Gamer zone
    • Rep
    • Prefer/avoid
    • Feedback
    • Acvite monitoring of feedback
  • TruSkill matchmaking that takes that all into account
  • Functional cross-game invite system that brings you straight into a friend's session
  • Closed, secure network that actively checks for, and bans, modded consoles
  • MS has resources whose job is to specifically connect with the community. Major Nelson, Trixie...
  • The support they give to fan sites through their MVP and Community Developer programs

Its not only Live V.S. PSN its what happen when you hit the guide VS ps button. When you hit the PS button you can quit game, turn off controller, and turn off the system. There might be another option I'm not sure. when you hit the Guide button for can change your online status, voice options, virbration, notificains, theme, check active downloads, you can reconnect, choose your music, chat or instant message, see your friends list, previous players you played against and messages. Thats one heavy guide button.

The "rented" Marketplace movies only cost a few dollars to watch versus $30 a pop for those blu ray movies you probably only watch once or twice the whole time you own them.

Not everyone has a fancy audio receiver like you do. 5.1 is more than adequate ...and remember....it only a few dollars to rent the movie versus $30.00 a pop for blu ray disc. You may want to waste your money on a blu ray library, a lot of people dont.

PSN can do all i highlited, and yes you can see when ur friends are online (and what their doing) without home, its all in the XMB (or what ever its called, the main menu)

Oh man, you have no clue do you? On ps3, you have to be IN the xmb to see what you freinds are doing or to send them a message...you cant do any of that from within a game. You literally have to stop what you are doing and exit the game...what a major pain and drag that is. With Live you can do all of that WITH IN THE GAME. The freedom this enables for you is fantastic. PSN will probably never be able to do this.

Saying that it is is just not enough for me.

What makes Live better than psn?

What specific feature does Live have that warrants paying for it (whether $20 or $50, etc)?

xDonRobx

A better question is why do you think PSN is on par with Live?

um maybe because PSN is free? possibly? no?

[QUOTE="Not-A-Stalker"]The ONLY things PSN has better are dedicated servers and it's free. Pretty much anything else you can imagine, it's better on Xbox Live than PSN... if PSN even has it.GirlGirlGirls

Thing is, those servers are probably going bye bye next year.

What I don't understand is why are most PC games from like 4-5 years ago have FREE servers still running....

Like Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield and Counter Strike...... BF2.

PC servers are not free. Clans and regular players rent them from server farms. You never played a PC game that asked for a donation? Some peopel just don't contribute that is all.

It doesn't take 30 minutes to download a 50 mb file from Live ;)

It takes me 25 seconds to download a 50MB File from PSN and Live.

2MB a Second connection. ;)

Owned by my 50mb/s FiOS connection...

No you can't. You can see friends that are playing the same game, but not if they're playing other games.

It's all very minor though. I've never used the cross-game invites, and the fact that you can talk to someone so easily means that you just tell the other person what to play. Plus, if you're not talking, it's annoying when you get an invite to play something else.

Sorry, not minor to me. I use it all the time. I have tons of friends on Live, its great to be able to talk them anytime i need to without having to log off the game im playing.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The speed for downloads on PSN is atrocious. There isn't much content worth downloading and even then, they can't offer fast downloads.

And when did i say you could do any of that? All i said was that you could see your buddy list in game and send them messages. Which you said couldn't be done (according to your post). Learn how to read because now your arguing with things i never said.

you're trying to imply that you can see it while playing the game. Thats not true. You can't see it at all in single player, and you can't see it while playing multiplayer. You have to go the multiplayer menu, hit community then look at friends. You can't actually see it "in game" if you're playing you have to quit and go to the menu to see it.
