God of War set the precedent though. God of War is the best hack-n-slash game ever (well, 2nd best, next to Part II). Only problem is that they are too easy (even on God Mode), so hopefully III will be harder.
oh **** did you see that ending? Tore that dudes face in two!AAllxxjjnnVisceral games is the master of gore.

It looks insanely similar to god of war in terms of animation and gameplay. But even then im not going to care because I like god of war alot.
Looks intense, can't wait to pick this up.
But things from the animations, direction they chose to gameplay, and so much seems to be directly taken from the God of War. It was like EA said "God of War is a highly regarded game so do what they do. No exceptions!"
I'm still going to keep an eye on this game and I'm hoping it ends up doing well.

Pun intended?Haha, I didn't even notice :P Well you do now. :twisted:What? I think you need to watch the video again because to me it looks pretty much nothing like devil may cry. the god of war similarities are all over the place thoe. Also the combat reminds me a bit more of DMC than GOW the button sequences remind me all to well of GOW though.

Now that you mention it, I do see some DMC qualities in that video. I guess EA is just trying to make the greatest action game ever then by "learning" from the best..Also the combat reminds me a bit more of DMC than GOW the button sequences remind me all to well of GOW though.

The combat to me looks more like DMC but I guess most people are focusing on button sequence kills. I agree the part with the minotaur guy looked straight out of GOW but the part where he did the spin through the small guys and the way he attacks in the air all to reminds me of DMC.

What are they supposed to do, reinvent a small genre where you dont have many things to do that hasnt been done already?[QUOTE="AHUGECAT"]God of War set the precedent though. Amen to that, foxhound_fox.
DMC did indeed set the bar, but Ninja Gaiden? I'd give GOW the edge over that..blazndragon0
I disagree the God of War games are fun action adventure games and have great amount of replay value. I beat God of War about 3 times and the second one about 6 times.JangoWuzHere
And God of War wasn't a rip-off of Ninja Gaiden and the many hundred of hack-n-slash games that game before?

So if something sets a precedent then everything after is obselete only one series can do that type of game?[QUOTE="AHUGECAT"]God of War set the precedent though. Games weren't ripping off DMC left and right when it came out - God of War is better in every way (IMO). Now I love DMC (look at my avatar) but GOW is better. God of War games are an adrenaline rush that is fun from beginning to end. God of War III is the only game on the PS3 that I am actually jealous of.
With Ninja Gaiden, it has the same problem DMC (and many other Japanese slashers do) - bad camera angles. They fixed this in Black but I didn't play Black first. Yes they do require some skill but I still found them relatively easy, but GOW is by far the easiest even on God Mode.

Just wondering, what makes you think that Dante's Inferno won't be a bastardization of the Divine Comedy (Inferno)? Dante never had a scythe. Will virgil be in the game? Will lucifer actually be a boss, even though he can't move? Riding on demons wasn't in the original poem and it's in the game. I'm pretty sure Dante's inferno will trash the literature that it's based on just as God of War trashed greek mythology.
This doesn't necessarily mean that dante's inferno will be bad though.

A game will have to bastardize anything to be a game so I agree with ya there. I think both are cool but Dante's Inferno seems to be trying a more faithful approach with it's mythology. God of War is Greek Mythology for frat boys. Dante's might be Dante's Inferno for gamers.[QUOTE="Trinners"]

Both twist the original just the same, I don't see how god of war does this more than dante's inferno. But nonetheless, both will be great and interest because of what they're based on and might interest the people who play the game into actually reading up on the literature.

And, did you play the non-Special Edition of DMC3? Because that game is beyond "hard." There isn't enough patience in the world to get most people through it on the normal level of difficulty.
DMC3 is the greatest hack and slash ever. GOW is a overrated game. This isnt a rip off. Its a hack and slash game. just like DMC, Ninja Gaiden, and GOW are.
Well it looks like a ripoff to me................but how is that a BAD thing?? Saints Row ripped GTA, and its an awesome game. Uncharted ripped Tomb Raider/ Indiana Jones, and its awesome. Oblivion copied Morrowind.............ok, im pushing it.:P.........Morrowind was better :lol:navyguy21I like Oblivion more. I have only played the console versions of both though. Morrowind GOTY and Oblivion with both expansions and a few other dlc.

The game's name is derived from its setting, which I think they have done a very, very good job on creating, I haven't seen all of the videos, but judging from the circle of lust, they are doing a good job. They added a couple things not mentioned in the book, but those things definitely add to the setting very well, while not overdoing it.
Wrath of the Gods actually created Greek Mythology. Anyways, yes the gameplay looks very similar to God of War.Funny how many people think GoW invented the hack N slash genre or actually it is more sad then funny. Heck there was hack N slash games in the arcades in the early 80s. Let me guess GoW created greek mythology also?

It is not a rip-off. All the things they have in common have been done in other video games before GoW. The only thing that might actually have been done originally by GoW was the concept of having a melee weapon that "stretches" in order to be effective at mid-range. And do you really think that something as small and mundane constitutes Dante's Inferno as a rip-off?
Also, after the fact that were three games in (With a fourth on the way), the portrayal of Greek mythology that GoW has brought us is starting to get a little stale in my opinion. Dante's Inferno, obviously, doesn't suffer from that since it's a completely new game.
