Dante has personality? I mean, if Marcus Fenix is one dimensional (which he is), then Kratos is also.

I don't know why anyone would care that a game rips off a good game, if anything that should be a good thing.

The fact one is a bastardization of Greek mythology and one is an interpretation of a 14th Century Italian masterpiece of literature?

There were hack-n-slash action games before God of War...

God of War set the precedent though. God of War is the best hack-n-slash game ever (well, 2nd best, next to Part II). Only problem is that they are too easy (even on God Mode), so hopefully III will be harder.

No it isn't. Devil May Cry set the bar, and further set it out of GoW's reach with DMC3. Plus, Ninja Gaiden stomps all over GoW.

The GoW games are good, but they are nothing worth writing home about. They are enjoyable for a single playthrough to get the story and taste of action... and that's about it.

Looks intense, can't wait to pick this up.

But things from the animations, direction they chose to gameplay, and so much seems to be directly taken from the God of War. It was like EA said "God of War is a highly regarded game so do what they do. No exceptions!"

I'm still going to keep an eye on this game and I'm hoping it ends up doing well.

Who the hell (no pun intended lulz) cares, the game is sick. I've always been a big fan of biblical stuff like the seven deadly sins, and the movie Se7en is awesome, and even though the game doesn't have all that much relevancy with the poem, the game implements the deadly sins somehow through boss fights or something. I really don't know that much about the game, so sorry if I sound like a dumbass.

I disagree the God of War games are fun action adventure games and have great amount of replay value. I beat God of War about 3 times and the second one about 6 times.

The combat to me looks more like DMC but I guess most people are focusing on button sequence kills. I agree the part with the minotaur guy looked straight out of GOW but the part where he did the spin through the small guys and the way he attacks in the air all to reminds me of DMC.

Both DMC and NG require skill to beat. GoW does not.

Good for you. Everyone I know who has played them has only been able to play them through once. Playing them any more for us seems to ruin the experience.

Their replay value is low, when you look at what the game contains. At least with DMC, you have the ability to go back to each new level and try for better scores. The only thing that changes in GoW is difficulty and costumes. And none of the costumes are worth the time to unlock, especially in the first game.

God of War games are an adrenaline rush that is fun from beginning to end. God of War III is the only game on the PS3 that I am actually jealous of.

With Ninja Gaiden, it has the same problem DMC (and many other Japanese slashers do) - bad camera angles. They fixed this in Black but I didn't play Black first. Yes they do require some skill but I still found them relatively easy, but GOW is by far the easiest even on God Mode.

Just wondering, what makes you think that Dante's Inferno won't be a bastardization of the Divine Comedy (Inferno)? Dante never had a scythe. Will virgil be in the game? Will lucifer actually be a boss, even though he can't move? Riding on demons wasn't in the original poem and it's in the game. I'm pretty sure Dante's inferno will trash the literature that it's based on just as God of War trashed greek mythology.

This doesn't necessarily mean that dante's inferno will be bad though.

A game will have to bastardize anything to be a game so I agree with ya there. I think both are cool but Dante's Inferno seems to be trying a more faithful approach with it's mythology. God of War is Greek Mythology for frat boys. Dante's might be Dante's Inferno for gamers.

that's the thing though, both games are just adaptations that are loosely-based on greek mythology/inferno. Both twist the original just the same, I don't see how god of war does this more than dante's inferno. But nonetheless, both will be great and interest because of what they're based on and might interest the people who play the game into actually reading up on the literature.

The developers have admitted to wanting to properly recreate the atmosphere and presentation of Dante's work in game form. Some alterations will take place... but nothing on the scale of GoW. They want to maintain the structure of the literature, while taking creative strives to make the transition between mediums as unbumpy as possible. Jaffe just took what he liked from Greek mythology and made it into something it really isn't.

Games weren't ripping off DMC left and right when it came out - God of War is better in every way (IMO). Now I love DMC (look at my avatar) but GOW is better. Out of the big three (GoW, DMC and NG), GoW ranks the lowest. It is a well-made game, yes, but it fails to match up in terms of sheer skill-based gameplay. Yeah, high production values give it some serious edge, but its hack-n-slash gameplay that requires no skill to execute, keeps it out of the league of DMC and NG.

And, did you play the non-Special Edition of DMC3? Because that game is beyond "hard." There isn't enough patience in the world to get most people through it on the normal level of difficulty.

The same way Duke 3d wasn't a rip off of Doom. It was, but it was better anyways. We'll see how Dante's Inferno fares.

DI looks like a combination of GoW and DMC, and it should be great.

The fact one is a bastardization of Greek mythology and one is an interpretation of a 14th Century Italian masterpiece of literature?

There were hack-n-slash action games before God of War...

Trinners

Just wondering, what makes you think that Dante's Inferno won't be a bastardization of the Divine Comedy (Inferno)? Dante never had a scythe. Will virgil be in the game? Will lucifer actually be a boss, even though he can't move? Riding on demons wasn't in the original poem and it's in the game. I'm pretty sure Dante's inferno will trash the literature that it's based on just as God of War trashed greek mythology.

This doesn't necessarily mean that dante's inferno will be bad though.

The game's name is derived from its setting, which I think they have done a very, very good job on creating, I haven't seen all of the videos, but judging from the circle of lust, they are doing a good job. They added a couple things not mentioned in the book, but those things definitely add to the setting very well, while not overdoing it.

Funny how many people think GoW invented the hack N slash genre or actually it is more sad then funny. Heck there was hack N slash games in the arcades in the early 80s. Let me guess GoW created greek mythology also?

Wrath of the Gods actually created Greek Mythology. Anyways, yes the gameplay looks very similar to God of War.

It is not a rip-off. All the things they have in common have been done in other video games before GoW. The only thing that might actually have been done originally by GoW was the concept of having a melee weapon that "stretches" in order to be effective at mid-range. And do you really think that something as small and mundane constitutes Dante's Inferno as a rip-off?

Also, after the fact that were three games in (With a fourth on the way), the portrayal of Greek mythology that GoW has brought us is starting to get a little stale in my opinion. Dante's Inferno, obviously, doesn't suffer from that since it's a completely new game.
