Microsoft was quite chummy with PC gamers and would do their best to promote the platform and provide games for PC gamers. Soon as Xbox showed up things started going downhill with their relationship with PC Gamers. They started giving PC Gamers the cold shoulder more and more. Then when this gen started they pretty much gave PC Gamers the middle finger and stole PC developers such as Remedy, Epic Games, and Lionhead. Microsoft showed how much they cared more about Xbox 360 then Windows PC when they made Ensemble make Halo Wars a REAL TIME STRATEGY GAME Xbox 360 Exclusive when its already known by anyone with a Brain that RTS excell best on PC.

Then later they felt that they should try and get PC Gamers with Windows Vista by claiming its for gamers when really it was a system hogging POS it was only good at having pretty visuals. They tried to get PC gamers to buy it by implimenting DX10 and making Halo 2 Vista only. Things didn't go out well. Windows Vista probably damaged the growthof PC Gamingsame for that god awful games for Windows Live.

Games For Windows Live was an attempt for it to be their cash in next to XBL. They tried to charge PC Gamers for a service they could get for free so later on they did that, but doing that made them give PC Gamers an even bigger middle fingerfinger.

They ignored all the complaintsPC Gamers were giving them. PC Gamers would make complaints such as,

PC Gamers:"Microsoft!!! Put in a Anti Cheat into GFWL!!! Everyone in these games is hacking and their is no shield too kick those bastards out!!"

Microsoft: "Hmmm heres some new achievements instead enjoy!!!"

PC Gamers: "How are we suppose to enjoy it if their are so many damn hackers!"

Microsoft: "Your right!!! Heres an extra achievement!"

PC Gamer: "Fawk this I'm switching Steam and refuse to buy any game that uses GFWL"

GFWL pretty much hindered the sales of PC Games that used it.

Years now andMicrosoft still hasn't implemented Anti Cheat into GFWL.

Now Microsoft pretty much screwed their core customers who bought the system before Kinect.

They pretty much abandoned the core gamers and leave them about 3 core games. They invest all their money now on pretty much Kinect.

Its sad how a company such as Valve has done a better job of supporting MICROSOFT WINDOWS PC gaming then Microsoft themselves and they have no excuse since they have a game console that they throw billions into.

Chill, the generation's not over yet, there'd be no point in them trying to change anything before W8 and the nextbox take off.

They don't. That's also why most of their crap has tanked with PC gamers except for Windows 7.

People here get too emotional over business. Its easy, really. Do you like a companies product? Then buy it. No? Dont. I dont expect any company to please me most of the time because although I own stock, I am not a decision maker with them. It doesnt stop me from buying what I want, using what I want from them. They get it, believe me they do. When I praise or put down one of them, they dont cry about it. They just take the money I give them for the product I want. Its not personal.

In the business world its best to have a good relationship with customers so you'll keep their support and gain new ones because of them. Microsoft idiotic decision did the opposite.

See all the money Valve makes with Steam!? That could of been Microsoft if they took PC gamers more seriously instead of treating them as 2nd class citizens.

No need to bash on Halo Wars. It was a fine RTS and a damn good attempt at bringing RTSs to consoles. The fact that it sold well and still has an extremely active community says something. But yeah Microsoft can suck it on the PC side. Have you seen the business model they have for Age of Empires Online? It's insane: $20 for a civilization, or $100 for a 6 month season pass. No thanks. And Vista sucked ass, like major ass. I never thought I could hate a piece of software as much as I did Vista.

Before xbox they they didn't publish a lot of games anyway. Why would they, they were not a gaming company after all. They make windows+directx and that's enough contribution imo.

I'm not bashing Halo Wars I'm bashing the fact they made an idiotic decision to keep a game of a genre that excells best on PC exclusive to a platform that sells them like crap in comparison.

So if you waiting YEARS for Halo 2 to come out on PC wouldn't you be pissed as hell to find out that inorder to play it you have to fork out for a **** OS unnecessarily.

Whether we give them money or not it is still a loss for us because eventually we'll have to run into their crap and wouldn't you start crying if a game you LOVED was tacked on with a POS that makes it nearly unplayable?

They don't have make us games but god dammit at least try and make GFWL good cause we have to deal with that crap when the game we like has that implanted into it.

But treating your customers like crap is an idiotic choice.

Considering 99% of gamers play games on Windows, i would say all of PC gaming is on a MS platform and MS controls all PC gaming

PC gaming was never MS problem, they have that their own for decades now, they did miss the living room though and is what xbox is about

Now they try to unify PC, phones, tablets and xbox with Win8, which means the try to get in all markets

I like to think of it more in terms of "What bad things have they done to me?"

Which is basically nothing.

They've provided me with Windows 7, they'll be providing me with a new MS Flight Simulator in the near future, and they've released a few games on PC.

Not only that, but they've actually given the rights to create games in their franchises to developers who want to make them. We'll be getting Mech Warrior Online this year. That's not something I'm angry about.

Ahh I see where you are getting confused.

You could as easily argue that ESSO own all cars because fuel is needed for cars to run, or that the sky owns all aeroplanes as aeroplanes need the sky to travel.

I agree TC. Microsoft have made some awful business decisions by not backing up a massive market and ditching it for the console race which has proven with the mighty downfall of the playstation brand over a single generation; its not a stable market and you can lose massive amounts of money. Whereas the PC market will keep going along at a good steady rate.

However now with Apple trying its luck with gaming (Again) it could cause microsoft to wake up a bit... but I doubt it. I expect PC gaming to turn into a more of a platform in which you choose operating systems to play i.e. a sort of OS for steam etc. Obviously not now, but in a couple of years prehaps. With everything going mobile it opens up the desktop to new ideas I think :).

Console market is as stable as PC gaming, as long as you make the right decisios and keep to tried and tested hardware and sensible pricing you tend to do fine.

The only reason people have ever failed is either, pricepoint, format or just plain stupidity at some points.

You are underesitmating peoples stupidity right there. People will be stupid. They will be stupid again... and again... and again. The console market has been "stable" for nintendo and thats it. However things like the nintendo 64, and gamecube from what I remember were not that popular in comparison to the playstation1 and 2. They have the handheld market which sony cant get into at all. Only real threat is the mobile phone and tablet.

Nope

Look at Sega only reason they went out was 1.Stupid peripherals,2.Console support being dire with the saturn and the quick kill off 3.Lack of 3rd party backing was the final nail in the coffin.

Sony's made a dent in the hardware market 50million odd PSP sold is still sucessful from a point of view.

Not to mention the reason the PS2 was a runaway sucess was the DVD player and pricepoint were completely crucial to sucess since if you remember DVD's cost a ton back then, they tried same with PS3 during an economic downturn and it backfired.

Ninty opted for cart's with the 64 which didnt help with support from companies like Square shifting focus to PS1 purely on format basis and nintendo's general stubborness to move to optical media at the time despite the many benefits.

Cube was similar, there was a lot of problems, came in late, didnt play DVD's and the 3rd party didnt have as much oomph as the PS2.

All their demise (essentially) in the related genss have arisen out of their own stupidity and bad buisness mistakes, the only one that could be redited to a real world financial situation was the PS3's mad price point.

Your going on bout the PC being an industry thats infaliable to mistake yet those same stupid people do exist in the PC gaming industry itself like Ubisoft ;)

Remedy had to BEG to get Alan Wake on PC the platform it was originally designed for since Microsoft decided to be a **** and buy it out to be exclusively on Xbox 360.

I like how you use the word "steal" like they were somehow yours to begin with.

Laugable and shows how immature some hermits can be.Lionhead were bought out willingly and done what they want, Epic's still indie and went and done what they want and branched out.

Thats life, why restrict yourself to 1 platform when theres w whole world out there (in epics case) sure GeoW is a console franchise but their engines, tech and other games are available on other platforms.

I like how you use the word "steal" like they were somehow yours to begin with.

Laugable and shows how immature some hermits can be.Lionhead were bought out willingly and done what they want, Epic's still indie and went and done what they want and branched out.

Thats life, why restrict yourself to 1 platform when theres w whole world out there (in epics case) sure GeoW is a console franchise but their engines, tech and other games are available on other platforms.

razgriz_101

Well it's considered "stealing" since they're pretty much pro-PC gaming and famous among the PC crowd.

When microsoft hired them they're pretty much "FAWK PC GAMING, ITS FOR CASUALS, PIRATES AND WOW GAMERS!!!" Well maybe just Cliffy B.

They didn't take PC gamers seriously either with bulletstorm since they pretty much made us wait 4 MONTHS for the demo and the game was released 2 months before that.

Games For Windows Live, Windows Vista, Halo 2 Vista only..................

Remedy had to BEG to get Alan Wake on PC the platform it was originally designed for since Microsoft decided to be a **** and buy it out to be exclusively on Xbox 360.

The pretty much stole Epic Games and LionHead from PC gamers especially epic games being a top teir in PC gaming.

Most of their games were PC only and I feel they only ported Fable 3 to PC cause they complained about used sales on 360

But you're still getting them, just a few months after Xbox.

Fable sells buttloads, regardless of used sales. Following that logic they should have ported Alan Wake long before Fable 3.

It sold buttloads but that didn't seem to keep LionHead from complaining about it, they said that all the used game sales they missed out on is worse then PIRACY

Well they can complain all they want, they're a first party dev and what they do is up to their parent company.

Unfortunatelly Microoft has lost the touch with what PC gamers want and Windows 8 is another proof of that.

Fortunatelly, the only thing PC gaming requires from Microsoft is stable OS, everything else it can achieve with other companies, so it doesn't really matter what MS does or doesn't. And the fact that we're getting some nice games from them now is just a plus.

Bassicaly if you want a company who takes a leading role in pc gaming development don't look up to MS to fill those shoes.
