With E3 around the corner, it's time to go on record on how many lies/undelivered promises Sony will tell this E3 in hopes to get some momemtum.

Use the voting buttons to record your opinion.

For the recrod

E3 2005 > E3 2006 (when talking about lies/undelivered promises).

Please don't confuse this with the sillyness of sony's E3 2006 (Ridge Racer, Crab weakspots, 4D, etc....) This thread is not about which one will be more of a joke, but which one has the most lies/undelivered promises.

BTW: If you want to discuss Nintendo or Microsoft in some fashion to say two wrongs make a right....just start your own thread.

Haven't you already been owned for constantly calling Sony liars but never being able to give an example or make a logical arguement to back up your claim?

Looks like you're owning yourself again for refusing to see Sony's lies. Two videos were posted about them and you still deny it. Amazing...I never knew they made fanboy blinders that big.

Like I said...can you think for yourself? You are the person making the thread. Is it to much for me to expect you have your own mind, your own examples or your own arguements? Or is, "Somebody else said!" your only defense?

Tell you what. You make a claim, then YOU back it up. DOn't go running into the net expecting somebody else to defend you. You think Sony are liars, I want to know YOUR reasoning.

Sony will still spout a load of PR BS as they are in "last place" and feeling the heat. But they simply can't get away with the amount of lies from previouse years cause their console is out now (not dual 1080p, 60fps for everything crap).

On the other hand Sony are an arrogant bunch and i can see em puttin on a brave face, brushing all the previous BS under the carpet and spout some more lies about 4D and the cells fire breathing powers just to stir up the media/fanbases.

It'd be pretty impressive if they managed to lie MORE this year than the previous two years. I'm more interested in how they spin PS3 hardware and sofware sale figures to their advantage.

sounds about like fanboys. Sony listens to critics and consumers, and they still get bashed for it.

critics/consumers - "What in the hell do we need two HDMI ports for?"
Sony - "ok, we will only have one HDMI port"
fanboy - "Sony lied. There is only one HDMI port instead of two"

critics/consumers - "There is no need for 3 ethernet ports"
Sony - "ok, we will only include one"
fanboy - "Sony lied again. There is only one ethernet port."

critics/consumers - "Why do we need 6 USB ports?"
Sony - "Ok, we will give you 4 USB ports."
fanboy - "Sony is a bunch of liars again."

I can't believe I'm wasting my time even replying to you, but what you call "Somebody else said!" is what Sony said and the videos show them talking and their PR info. So, yes I can think for myself. When I see a Sony rep saying something I now immediately say I don't believe it until they deliver on the goods.

I'm sure sony is banking on more people not understanding they lie more than a rug and will believe anything they say.

A lie is a bit different than a broken promise.... a lie is saying something when you know it is not true, a broken promise is failing to deliver on a promise you made. Dramatically different in my books - people in the game industry break promises a lot - it's just because they are restrained by something - whether it be a date of release, game content, or price point.

Maybe make this a 'broken promise' thread? Cause I don't know very many lies that Sony has told us.

What's really funny is the number of posts calling sony "arrogant" and "liars" without ever giving one single example to back up their claim.

And as a wise man once said, opinion without evidence is called prejudice.

I agree, that's why I said broken promises in my post. A lie would be the KZ2 CGI being actual game play.

All he'd have to say was "killzone 2 realtime" and he'd be right. Even if Guerilla has since got the game to look that good in realtime, the trailer was still just cgi.

Good point. Also, opinion without evidence could also be called ignorance (something of which there is an American epidemic at the moment).

Not to mention the fact that Sony never PROMISED any of those things as being in the final console. At the time they announced these features, they said that hardware is not final. Not to mention the FACT that one of the things Gamepro is calling a "broken promise" is the lack of HDMI output...in the cheaper model. Isn't that like saying MS broke a promise (or lied according to fanboys) by saying the 360 would be $299 with standard HDD, and yet they had already told developers NOT to expect standard HDD?

Did people really say we don't need 6 USB ports? I can see that being handly especially since you need it to charge your controller and it doens't have a replaceable battery back like the 360.

Also what about 1080P 60fps on both HDMI ports? Sure the got rid of one needless HDMI port, but why did the 1080p 60fps go away with it? If anything it should hve allowed them to do 120fps (which I think they said it could do at one point as well).

Yes it's just like MS's lie, but as I stated earlier (so now you're agreeing Sony has lied), if you want to discuss Nintendo lies or MS's lies start a new thread. And you'll see it sink to the bottom of the page quickl as there isn't a whole lot to talk about.

Ah! So because developers haven't done it yet, that MUST mean it is impossible to do and therefore SOny lied.

Just forget all the developers who have said the PS3 hardware is difficult to learn and extremely expensive to max out and therefore they aren't going to bother trying for a while. Just ignore FACTS because fanboy cherry picking is so much more convenient.

Here is a very nice read at 1up.com in which they describe Sony as "masters of the art of exaggeration". To be fair, all of the companies are mentioned, but 1up is somewhat adamant in pointing out that they believe Sony to be the worse one.

I know I may be -flamed- for this, but I was not as avidly interested in the politics of gaming during the Killzone 2 fiasco as I am now... so I wiki'd it, this is what it says:

"SCEA's Vice President, Jack Tretton, was quoted as saying that the
Killzone footage, that is believed to be pre-rendered,"is definitely real" and "is real gameplay", but it was later claimed that Tretton was referring to Resistance: Fall of Man , not Killzone. Sony's Phil Harrison later stated the video was done "to spec" during an interview with the G4 Network."

Is that what everyone is so upset about?

NO he wouldn't be right, and therefore you have just exposed your own ignorance and bias. There is a big difference between realtime, gameplay and CGI. Killzone 2 was "made to spec" and therefore WAS real time...it just wasn't gameplay.

You know... it's not really up to the hardware to deliver on that promise I dont think - unless I am adamantly mistaken, it relies more on the developers, and the maximum capabilities of the hardware.

I might be able to assist you sir. In an interview with Phil harrison he is quoted saying... : "Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature; it's not the next-generation feature."

Bu bu but its not that rumble is last gen, we just had a lawsuit on our hands.

Teh Sony CEO Spin...

Interesting. If Sony thinks rumble is last gen, why start providing a last gen concept to your next gen console in the near future? Teh lies 4 j0o!!!

fanboy - "Sony lied.

Ok so there you have it. Because Devs can't tap it doens't mean it can't be done. I'm sure some dev could right pong at 1080p 120fps, but that's not what was implied when talking about dual output 1080p 120fps. And then showing games like KZ2 and saying it was gameplay footage when it was CGI at 5fps and then sped up to look smooth.

Combine both of those scenarios and everyone was thinking PS3 would blow away everything, but yet it can barely hang with the 360 which was released 1 year prior to the PS3. And now the reason is because of crappy devs. Last I checked Sony has 1st party games and they help devs to create games, so I guess sony devs suck at their own hardware as well.

No I think I'll take occam's razor on this one. Most likely it's because the PS3 isn't has powerfu as sony first promised it to be.

Kinitari

Fanboys like to rewrite history, and confuse their own warperd interpretation of events with the actual reality. They still claim PS2 had the worst launch ever and that the PS2 never lived up to promises made during it's E3 launch. Then they proceed to ignore every bit of evidence and rational arguement to the contrary.

NO he wouldn't be right, and therefore you have just exposed your own ignorance and bias. There is a big difference between realtime, gameplay and CGI. Killzone 2 was "made to spec" and therefore WAS real time...it just wasn't gameplay.

ZIMdoom

Correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that real-time meant that it was running in-engine. Are target renders considered real-time then?

You can expect Sony to lie near the level of E3 2005.

Sony is scared right now (console in 3rd place with no signs of that changing, software sales are in the dumps, once-exclusive games now going to x360)and will need to come out swinging. Sony will do everything it can to put down the x360 and XBL.

NGS runs at 1080p, 60fps.

What about all the other games? Sure an old xbox game can run at a higher resolution and higher fps.

Also I misspoke, I believe sony promised 120fps.

Sony never promised 120FPS.

NBA '07 was 1080p/60fps
Ridge Racer 7 was 1080p/60fps

That's 3 games that I can think of right now. I think I am missing two other games but I can't remember them.

That is atleast 4-5 1080p/60fps games on the PS3.

for a resolution that MICROSOFT said would never happen, I think that is great.

We remember KZ2's "actual gameplay". I'm calling flat out lie on that one and masters of exageration for the rest.

LMAO, Sony never said KZ2 was gameplay or that it was realtime. That would have been lying.

Here is a very nice read at 1up.com in which they describe Sony as "masters of the art of exaggeration". To be fair, all of the companies are mentioned, but 1up is somewhat adamant in pointing out that they believe Sony to be the worse one. Kestastrophe

I didn't know if anyone saw this.

You know... it's not really up to the hardware to deliver on that promise I dont think - unless I am adamantly mistaken, it relies more on the developers, and the maximum capabilities of the hardware.

It's a combination of both. Sony has to prove it can do 1080P 120FPS with a game like KZ2. And then we can blame the devs if they can't do it. But until sony proves it can it's just lies. And no pong crap. I can make pong run at 1080p 120fps very easily, but what is exected is games that look next gen and since Sony billed KZ2 as their nextgen example at e3 05, well they set the bar for themselves they now have to deliver on.

Real-time means its being rendered as you see it. So yes, it would be running in engine.

The KZ2 video was neither real-time nor in-engine, it was CGI. Being a target render, it was probably "made to spec" based on a level of graphical quality Guerilla was expecting to produce.

Tell you what. You make a claim, then YOU back it up. DOn't go running into the net expecting somebody else to defend you. You think Sony are liars, I want to know YOUR reasoning.

Magical_Zebra

I might be able to assist you sir. In an interview with Phil harrison he is quoted saying... : "Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature; it's not the next-generation feature."

Bu bu but its not that rumble is last gen, we just had a lawsuit on our hands.

Teh Sony CEO Spin...

Interesting. If Sony thinks rumble is last gen, why start providing a last gen concept to your next gen console in the near future? Teh lies 4 j0o!!!

A lie would be if they said "We do not want and will not support rumble" and then did. While I will not defend Sony's stupid statements and the constant incompetance of their PR department, the claim is that Sony are liars. This is not a "lie" by any definition of the word.

not to mention the fact he is stating his opinion ("i think") and that he says nothing about supporting or now supporting rumble. Instead the CONTEXT of the statement you quote is the value and "next-gen" merits of motion sensing controllers vs rumble.

No, real time does not mean it is running "in engine". It doesn't even mean it is running on PS3 hardware. All it means is some hardware somewhere is rendering it as we see it. My understanding was the Killzone 2 demo was running off PC hardware.

please who me where Sony stated that 120fps was going to happen this generation. You have stated it twice now, so I will assume that you have the evidence to back it up.

Oh PR spinz!

Yeah, it's probably the closest thing to a lie I have heard them say personally - It had -very- little to do with it being a last gen feature. But now odds are when they add the new rumble they will be like "This is not the rumble you all know, this is rumble 2.0!" and will make the rumble differently than the rumble we are used to somehow so that they will get away with it.

Well, that is unless they try to continue down their more 'human and honest' path. They might outright say "Before, unfortunately we were not on the best terms with immersion as you all know, but now after much time, we have reached an agreement and are ready to move forward with our two companies working together - and we are ready to give what a lot of fans have been asking for, and then some!" or something like that, who knowz~.

Why would Sony make a game run at 120fps? There's not even a single TV out there that runs at 120fps. Kutaragi, being crazy, said he expected the PS3 to be capable of it when those TV's are available. And even if there's never a single 120fps game made, it wouldn't make what Kutaragi said a "lie" because any console is capable of running at 120fps.

You keep coming out with this "expectations" crap like Sony promised you the world, when the problem is you're having a hard time applying reality to PR talk.

Nice reminder from the article.

" ...Sony and its partners believe that if they can coordinate those processors at maximum efficiency, the PS 3 will be able to process a trillion math operations per second -- the equivalent of 100 Intel Pentium 4 chips and 1,000 times faster than processing power of the PS 2."

Once again, completely dependent on total impossibility, but who cares? It's nice to know that in an era of video games becoming more and more serious, Sony has maintained a well developed sense of whimsy, at least as far as their hardware is concerned.
