Because it's an awesome game. San Andreas was a bit balls I thought. All that ghetto BS just ****ed me off.
I'm going out on a limb here and saying that from what I've played of the game, it's excellent. It truly is an amazing game. It isn't perfect, but I understand why it received a lot of 10s, I just wouldn't give it a 10 myself as I thought San Andreas was much better :O (so far anyway).
:'(
[QUOTE="solidgamer"][QUOTE="3verlastingHero"]No military.
EuroMafia
WTF no military i never new this, what happens at maximum wanted level?
2 heli'sIf that IS true, then I really don't care if GTA4 comes to PC anymore. No military.
Barley any character customization, only some cloths.
No car customization.
Smaller map.
Nothing to spend your money on, no new houses.
Bad ending.
Glitchy multiplayer, seems like an after thought.
Shorter than San Andreas.
Graphical glitches (pop ups).
3verlastingHero
No military. Yeah missed slighty but when has the army every gone onto the streets to stop a criminal, besides on six stars your gonna find it way harder to surive than in past games
Barley any character customization, only some cloths. this game doesnt need character customization there already completely fleshed out by the game creators would be silly to edit an already awesome main character
No car customization. true i kinda miss that but it barely registers on my care radar
Smaller map. this is the silliest complaint the map is freaking huge and its pure city no country side id say liberty in IV is as big as all the citys from san andreas combined, if theres one aspect you cant complain about in IV its the city
Nothing to spend your money on, no new houses. true does seem a bit of an oversight
Bad ending. dunno yet not long to go
Glitchy multiplayer, seems like an after thought. again havent play MP yet so cant comment
Shorter than San Andreas. ive played the game for 55 hours so far and im 50% this game has kept me interested for alot longer than most other games, san andreas bored me when i got to las ventras
Graphical glitches (pop ups). ive not noticed any popups on my 360 version i guess this might vary between console though
Bad framerate issues when playing online. cant comment
And more, seriously how did this game get PERFECT 10's? When it is far from perfect. a game will never be perfect there is always more that can be done regardless of how good said game might be, but does that mean we cant ever use the 10 score?? seems rarther silly if you cant
EDIT: What happened to "most people don't even finish a GTA game anyways" when talking about if episodic content was needed. Every one of my friends beat GTA4 the first week they had it.
3verlastingHero
maybe the things it does well far outway any of those issues you listed? which they definately do, as an experience this game is definately deserving of its AAAA scores its unparalled presentation and story telling is a new high point for gaming
i had to bold some issues i find pretty questionable
and my god random shootouts with the police and going on rapages are now a thing of destructive beauty so visceral these put alot of movie action sequences to shame seriously and the amazing thing is there compleletly random
[QUOTE="nbalive4life"]bro..I was asking myself the same question when Ocarina of Time came out 10 years ago. The simple answer is that hype rules all. lollolfiretruckOoT was revolutionary.

Surely the reason GTAIV scored 10's across the board can be partly attributed to hype, mainly because reviewers probably felt safe giving it AAAA without having to suffer too much internet-whining. But does that mean it does not deserve the scores?
Gta IV IS the best GTA to date. It improved so vastly on every core aspect of the franchise, with shooting and driving mechanics, story, missions and detail of the enviroment being so much better as to make the previous installments almost laughable in comparison. GTAIV is also the first game on a scratch-built engine, so naturally some of the extra bells and whistles that San Andreas had are going to be missing, mostly because they can't reuse models, textures and animations to save time on the maingame's production. As such i'd espect to see good use of arbitrary features like customization and sub-missions to be put to good use in the next installment.
Pretty much the only thing i truly missed in GTAIV was a wider selection of weapons and more random crime sub-missions like the breaking and entering from SA and robberies from VC.

Maybe because they rate the game that was made and that they are playing...not the imaginary "far superior" game in their head.
I also think mods need to start booting people who continue with the stupid "10 = perfect" BS. If you don't understand by now the concept of a rating scale, then please just quit gaming and get lost.
yeh its pretty sad how GTA got 10, just shows Rockstar payed plenty of $$$$ to the reviewers and the reviewers shouldnt be taken seriously, i wud rather give Dark Sector a 10
mingo123
thats ridiculous. judging from the demo, the game was trash.
whats with all this gta4 hate? god damn the game is very well done. the amount of solid gameplay and story you get from this package, not even to mention the MP, is astounding. give me a break, it may not be perfect but im not gonna whine about it getting 10s. not many other games offer this amount of content for 60 bucks.

you can still rob shops just pull out your weapon of choice point at the cashier the alarms will sound, then just walk around the counter and get the money from the till using LB( 360 version) cops will now enter stores, so you can have some great shootouts i did after robbing modo
poor gta4......its going the same route as halo 3.....where people think its cool to bash it :roll:gohan2710
It's not that it's fun to bash it, it's that it just doesn't deserve the score it got. Gta4 is nowhere near as fun as the previous installments.
I liked the world in San ANdreas much better. The whole early 90's gansta rap era can't be beat. I think gtaiv is great, but it's certainly no 10. that's the hype talking. in 6 months, no one willl be talking about it, unless the added xbox content is stellar.
[QUOTE="Devourment423"]Explain the light green then. Where it says "perfect"How many times does it have to be said....
10 does not mean perfect! It means it goes above and beyond what is out at the time. Do you agree with this? Probably not. Do I care? No.
I personally think it's one of the most detailed games ever so I think it deserves the high scores.
3verlastingHero
That someones opinion, are you serious?????? :|
[QUOTE="KrisG7"]I agree, it was overhyped like 99% of games now a days. Don't get me wrong its an excellent game, but it's really just more of the same with a little more polish.Because...
Hype ftw.
Bigboi500
reminds me of the MGS2 fiasco. Dont get me wrong, MGS2 was a great game but it got high ratings due to extreme hype. Imo, they should switch around the MGS2 and MGS3 ratings...that would make more sense. Another game that sailed to high scores on the hype train was Halo2. Its a great game to be sure, but it deserved a 9.0 at best. its trash compared to its predecessor.
To all the people pointing out that 10 does not mean perfect I agree, but what is wrong is that GTA4 is not better than many of the other games that got AAA and were considered not good enought to be AAAA.
I don't understand how it got so many 10's either. The game is lacking in so many things.lusitanogamer
Yeah, it sucks that I can't collect pokemon in the game and battle other people with them. Therefore GTA4 only deserves a 9.

If you can't tell the difference between "perfect score" and saying the game itself is literally "perfect"...then you are incapable of ever understanding.
Because it's much better than almost every game of this generation, and makes every GTA and sandbox game of its type before it look like utter trash. People want to be able to mod cars, and yet complain about vehicles that now have weight to them and are governed by physics. It's hilarious.
In Saints Row, modding was practically the same for almost every vehicle, and since all the cars felt the same, the modding added absolutely nothing in terms of gameplay except for the nitrous boost. It was purely aesthetical.
People are so damn shallow, upset at the notion that Niko isn't putting 20" rims and spoilers on his cars, lifting weights, wearing pimp suits, and parachuting off skyscrapers, and actually taking this out on the game even though these things are pure fluff and the actual core gameplay (you know, the stuff that matters) was improved twentyfold.

How was OOT revolutionary? 3D?
Huge open 3D world, Z-Targeting, horseback riding, 1st person integration in an adventure game, moving back and forth in time, etc. Even if other games dealt with these things before, few if any did them on the scale of OoT. The depth of that game is still staggering to me even today.
And for the record, I'm well aware that OoT is basically a retread of LttP. That doesn't make the game any less revolutionary in my eyes.
over-hyped.
Its a good game, but has plenty of faults to not deserve a 10 whether you think that should mean perfect or not.

Avenger1324
List these faults that keep it away from 10. People love to hold GTAIV to standard that literally doesn't apply to any other game. As a perfect example of this, you have the most dense and realistic city in any game ever, and people have actually complained that there aren't enough buildings to enter.

- Multiplayer issues
- Bad cover system
- Clunky control
- Short SP
- Side Missions that really don't have any bearing on what you do, very unlike Saint Rows.
- Bad AI.
I'll tell you why people felt this game deserved a 10. Rockstar took a genre that they put on the map and elevated it to a new level. It doesn't matter if you liked SA, VC or 3 more, This game on a technical, story and emotional level is far better than any of those games. There isn't a more fully realized environment in any game done better than Liberty City.
And there were problems in ALL GTA games, so stop playing yourself. So if you loved the other GTAs with all of their problems and those scored remarkably well, getting a 10 isn't out of the question. Anybody that thinks a game that scores a 10 should be perfect really needs their head examined.
Since it is impossible for a human to be perfect, how could we expect them to create something that is? All in all, it's just a review score and all of the whining about it is moronic.
"Whaa! How could it be a 10? I didn't like it!" Please get over yourselves.

What multiplayer issues? No sandbox game before GTAIV has come as close to as full-fledged and quality a multiplayer as it has. Even Crackdown's co-op was boring by comparison. There are match-making and lobby issues, I'll give you that, but if you get into a good match the MP is as fun as anything else out there.
Bad cover system, how? Is it not good enough that you can take cover behind any object, static or non? That's more advanced than anything we've ever seen, so I think some slight glitches here and there are understandable. The cover system works perfectly well, and adds a great deal of depth and excitement to the gun battles, putting the gunplay much closer to the level of quality shooters than past sandbox games.
Control's only clunky in enclosed spaces, since Niko has more weight to him so it's tougher to move him around quickly, which is more of an issue in interiors. Other than that, control is as good as any other sandbox game out there. The only reason driving is "easier" in past GTAs and Saints Row is because it's much shallower and takes far less skill. And aiming is fine, if you can actually aim.
SP is short? That's the first time I've heard anybody say that. A lot of people still haven't finished it.
Side missions don't have bearing on what you do? As in what, gaining "respect"? The vigilante missions in GTAIV alone eclipse anything Saints Row has to offer, and you can also get different missions from meeting random people in the city, which is cool because you see those people change and evolve as time goes on depending on how you help them. Regardless, the only side missions of any worth to them in Saints Row were the drug running and insurance fraud. People really need to stop looking back with rose-tinted glasses.
I'm not saying that GTAIV doesn't have any problems, but I am saying what a lot of reviewers are: that it has problems, but those problems simply aren't enough to keep it away from a 10, and if they were then no game could ever get a 10.
Because...Hype ftw.

multiplayer is surely an improvement over no multiplayer at all.

It isn't just hype. GTA IV is the best GTA PERIOD. That's fine if you had more fun playing Vice City, but really, to discount this game after only spending a few hours with it "at a friends house" and comparing it to the experience of playing a game that you own and have probably spent many, many hours playing is unfair.
Playing any GTA game for just a few hours and judging it is silly.[QUOTE="lusitanogamer"]I don't understand how it got so many 10's either. The game is lacking in so many things.ZIMdoom
