How the heck did GTA4 score so many 10's?

List these faults that keep it away from 10. People love to hold GTAIV to standard that literally doesn't apply to any other game.

- Multiplayer issues

- Bad cover system

- Clunky control

- Short SP

- Side Missions that really don't have any bearing on what you do, very unlike Saint Rows.

- Bad AI.

bad cover system? works fine for me so far

clunky control? its the same as any other 3rd person shooter.... and the aiming mechanic is fine..

short sp? umm...short... compared to what oblivion?... the game is like 30 hours long

Yeah, it sucks that I can't collect pokemon in the game and battle other people with them. Therefore GTA4 only deserves a 9.

cleary opinions differ because it seems alot of forum posters and plenty of the gaming press seem to think it is a 10 im not gonna disagree either havent played a game this good in years infact scratch that its the best game ive ever played really.............i look forward to the traditional "well you couldnt have played many games comments"

I had a lot more fun with BioShock and The Orange Box personally, but I understand people will have different opinions.

The pokemon comment really grinded my gears for some reason. Maybe because it was stupid, but I know where he was coming from.

What is kinda dumb about the ten score for gta4 is that there is only a handful of games that have ever gotten a 10. So then those of you who support the ten score are willing to say this is one of the greatest games of all time? doubt it.

Perhaps it got the 10/10s because its better than any of the games you mentioned?

Honestly in GSs .5 system the 10/10 makes alot of sense.

However in the case of IGN who does it in .1 variations it doesent. Its a very high 90s game, methinks aroundabout a 9.7, the 10 just seemed to ignore many faults of the fantastic game.

It isn't just hype. GTA IV is the best GTA PERIOD. That's fine if you had more fun playing Vice City, but really, to discount this game after only spending a few hours with it "at a friends house" and comparing it to the experience of playing a game that you own and have probably spent many, many hours playing is unfair. Playing any GTA game for just a few hours and judging it is silly.heretrix

are you kidding? i played vc a few weeks before 4 came out and couldnt stand 10 minutes. the targetting was horrible and the fact that you cant control or free the camera at all, on foot or driving bugged the crap out of me. its seriously mind boggling

Personally I think it did deserve a 10, as did GI, IGN, 1up, and GS, which to me are the most credible sites out there. I put it in second place on my all time list, which dates back 25 years of gaming. Alot of work went into this game and as a NYer it's pretty evident, but I can understand people not realizing some of the thought and likeness from the outside.

I only chalk up few factors going into the extreme amount of hate.

1. The soundtrack is ok, not great.

2. The controls are a little wonky, mainly the cover system.

3. Outside of being a contract killer, the missions rarely vary.

The game is lengthy, the gfx are very good for the scale, and in my experience the technical issues are non-existent. I haven't seen pop-in or slowdown yet, 28 hours into the campaign. The story so far is well written and movie quality. So unless peple tearing this game as being crap weren't allowed to buy it, or are owners of only a PC or a Wii, I can't understand anyone trashing what I consider a masterpiece.
