I think hardware wise MS is in the best position right now but it needs games the most. I would...

- Make TRUE exclusives, not shared with PC

- Patch up with Platinum and release Scalebound

- Make a brand new AAA IP as big as big as Halo, Gears and Forza used to be

- Get Japan 3rd party support like Neir, Yakuza, Dragon Quest etc.

- Japan 1st party studio or 2nd party like Mistwalker last gen

- Reboot Fable

- Bring back old IPs like Conker, Banjo, Kameo or Perfect Dark

- Team up with a 3rd party like Gears last gen or Sony and From this gen

- Stop paying for "console launch exclusives" and concentrate on not loosing 3rd party indie games like Hellblade or Pyre

My plan is simple.

Sell the minecraft dev, and build a studio in Japan. Hire locals and give them 3 projects with different genres.

Bring back xbox live silver make it free and include online multiplayer for free. have no apps behind paywall.

xbox live gold give you free games with gold every month.

ad a new xbox live platinum that gives you games with gold everymonth, plus ea access and game pass.

and new games in beloved franchises like banjo, conkur, fable etc.

Opening up some first party studios would be a good start. I don't think they necessarily need more Japanese games but they need more AAA Western exclusives not named Halo, Gears or Forza. They need to create something new that grabs everyone's attention that you can only play on Xbox.

Invest in a variety of exclusives from many different genres.

MS should invest in single player games and multiplayer focused games.

Reboot franshises like Perfect Dark.

Ditch the "Pay2play" online bs. It would be the only way to save the xbox and hopefully, if successful, the other companies would follow

Lol, wtf are you guys talkin about? You see some news about the X1X outselling the Pro (wich is a version of the PS4 that has been flopping pretty much ever since it released) and some other news that the scorpio version has sold out without knowing how many units were put in stores and suddently MS has had a "comeback"?

lol, u lems trully are a delusional bunch...

Their backwards compatibility is pretty decent. Was very impressed with that recently. That Sony sells classic games on its store and comes out and says, yeah, but why do you want to play old games on the PS4? is insulting.

Basically, when your system dies, you're screwed.

Open a new studio to make an action RPG series in the vein of Elder Scrolls or Fable.

Keep Rare making games we want. New IP's and resurrect old ones like Banjo, Perfect Dark, Conker, and Viva Pinata.

Create a 3rd Forza series to put in rotation with Motorsport and Horizon.

Open 3 or 4 more bigger studios.

In summary: Halo, Gears, Forza Motorsport, Forza Horizon, 3rd Forza series, Action Rpg/Fable, Banjo, Perfect Dark, Conker, Viva Pinata, Ori, 3-5 other IP's. Boom you got it all and are competing much better with Playstation.

The Xbox brand doesn't need "saving", but if MS can boost their 1st party lineup & bring a few more quality exclusives on-board, Sony will be in trouble I think... MS has them beat everywhere else pretty much.

What success? Can you lemmings travel in time? All you lemmings have are preorders. It's a long way before you can start calling it a success or a comeback.

That means little to what a real success is. The Wii U was also a success on preorders and the overall console was a failure.

Are you guys brainwashed? Exclusives are not good for consumers period. Maybe you'd also like to have your Mp3 music collection only playable on an iPhone? Maybe you'd like to live in North Korea and be forced to play on what they want you to?...Because that's exactly what you are saying with this ideology. Sharing IP's with Windows is also a win win for Microsoft as well and more of a win for consumers by giving them a choice. If you choose PC, MS isn't out anything if you consider how much their company brings in as a whole but the reality is that X1X will continue to sell just as well as it otherwise would have because it's simpler and cheaper.

Having a choice on your hardware platform is huge. Maybe you guys are afraid to think about choices, so much for moving out of your mom's house right?

Microsoft lacks an identity of its own right now. They need to invest in in house studios to produce their own content.

Xbox one x need exclusives.

X360 exclusives made it unique. To play gears of war or halo or forza or any other xbox exclusive you needed an xbox.

Nowadays you can play those on pc which in my opinion is a bad move.

Also Id boost the cpu power before release

Why, MS make more money if the game is on Xbox and PC. They make very little money or at first might lose money on a console so it looks like doing it this way is a very smart move for MS.

Real exclusives. Japan support. Investing in their first party. Come up with hit games/franchises. I would love to buy the Xbox One X, but MS just hasn't give me a reason to.

Some quality exclusives would be a great start.

Also variety in exclusives could help them out. Too many shooting and driving games. They need more types of games preferably some Japanese games because Japan is killing it right now. They also need quality SP games like Uncharted, Horizon, etc.

Too bad MS is too stupid and stubborn to do this and lems are foolishly cheering them on. It would have been nice to have MS actually care about games and being competitive with Sony. The competition would have been awesome but I guess MS prefers to get rekt all gen and leave the market to Sony and Nintendo.

@pimphand_gamer: Exclusives would not be as good if they were made on all systems. They allow a developer to focus on one piece of hardware and get the most out of it. Look at uncharted 4. How do you think that'd of looked if it was also on the base Xbox one? Not as good.

@me2002: I think Scalebound just didn't work out as a game.

And to make a good Fable and Rare games, they would need to hire a lot of talent they don't have.

But I agree, they defiantly need exclusives.

Its most expensive version sold out. The point is that preorders shine a missleading positive light on how a console will really fair because many preorders are done out of hype and not out of analysis and research from part of the users. Later buyers are much more careful than earlier ones. To see if it will be a success you'll have to wait until the initial hype has died. My bet is that it won't sell well because late buyers will notice that it doesn't offer enough new experiences or features to pay the premium price.

Sell it off to competent Japanese businessmen instead of these shilly corporate American dummies who only know about marketing buzzwords and promises. Guys like major Nelson and Greenberg are so cringey along with everyone else who's job it is to prop up the Xbox brand turd. It's gross.

Following your same reasoning, exclusive software or hardware is also not good for consumers. Microsoft supporting DirectX instead of Vulkan is effectively supporting the use of their OS over universal compatibility so why would I support the MS model that makes universal compatibility on PC more difficult and worse for consumers?

If an MP3 service created it's own music then absolutely it should be exclusive. Consumers have a choice. No one forces them to buy anything. Exclusives tend to be done by first party developers. The days of the NES with strict control and total ownership of third party games are over. Developers should also have a choice who they want to do business with. They may have a great relationship with one and choose to support them. They may have a bad experience with one and choose not to work for that company.

Simple, go back to the wide variety of high quality exclusives they had on both the Xbox and 360.

I will say, I commend Microsoft and there new found commitment to PC gaming, and the idea of having all there games be shared across PC and Xbox was good, and very pro-gamer, in theory. In practice though, it's done nothing but make the Xbox brand obsolete. It's all well and good having the most powerful console, but when the only games it plays can all be played on PC, potentially in even better quality, you're just left wondering, why you'd bother with Xbox?

It's a shame, because the Xbox One would probably have been my console of choice had it kept the quality and quantity of exclusives it had on 360.

I think that is the ultimate goal. To transition their gamers over to PC and save hardware development costs. In the future. I think maybe one more gen from them.

Also why in the hell does gamers come up as an erroneous word on the spellcheck of a gaming site?

@i_p_daily: Sorry I hurt you're feelings, it's the cold hearted truth.

Did you know MS actually scrap Lionheads original ideas for an actual Fable 4 but MS told them to scrap it for Fable Legends? Or the fact that MS cannot invest new IP games? The system wouldn't be so bad if it had more variety of IP exclusive games.

I'll let you think about that my console playing Friend :)

Just keep making xbox live the go to place for multiplayer/co-op gaming. Stay with your bread and butter which is multiplayer and co-op. Keep looking at ways to enhance games like cloud computing. Get more third party support for pc/xbox play anywhere titles as well as first party(no care for xbox only). Maybe once in a blue moon make a singleplayer game.
