But we're on Gamespot.

We're also human beings capable of thoughtful discussion. The Gamespot forums are a medium for the community to discuss games, I doubt many people on here actually read the reviews/news from Gamespot. I sure don't anyway.

Anyway, I'm picking up this game. It looks fun.

Thoughtful discussion? Do you know where you are? In addition, how thoughtful is it that he's literally just looking at all the poor review of the game in order to bash it. The title of the thread is "Hyrule Warriros - Gamespot Review 8/10".

This "musou hate" is your imagination

"good" is an interesting word for average to medicore.

Looks like DW8 is sitting at 71 on Metacritic and Hyrule Warriors is at 74.

Dynasty Warriors 8 is at a 68 on MC, or 65 if you use the 360 version.

Those are good scores for a Dynasty Warriors game too. Dynasty Warriors 7 was rated much lower and Dynasty Warriors 6 is even lower.

The PC version is a 71. I think there are still plenty of reviews left to be written for Hyrule Warriors as well. Even if the 74 holds up, it would appear that Hyrule Warriors is just following a trend of these games getting rated higher with each iteration.

This game should've been called Fan Service: The Game.

If you love Zelda, you'll love the shit you see in this.

Saw the locked thread on page 1 where someone cried about GS being a joke because this game received the same number as TLOU. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Stop putting importance in these fucking numbers then.

The error you are making is that the gaming metascale is equal to how they use the metascale on for film or other mediums. It's not.

In film: http://www.metacritic.com/movie/get-on-up 71 is favorable.

In games: http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/dynasty-warriors-8-xtreme-legends-complete-edition it is mixed.

As in middling, mediocre, etc, because gaming scores are inflated to hell and back, and even with that Dynasty Warriors best in recent years is a 71 on 5 reviews.

Yeah gaming scores are favorable at 75 plus. Films are favorable at 60 plus, ditto for music I think, because those mediums have actual critics and not paid for dick riders.

So Wasdie wasn't wrong in saying Dynasty Warriors has always had mediocre reviews, and mediocre reviews in a medium where those numbers are inflated in comparison to any other medium.

He was wrong in saying that Hyrule Warriors was getting good scores, though. His comment was that Hyrule Warriors is getting good scores because of the Zelda license while the Dynasty Warriors games got mediocre scores, to paraphrase.

Oh hey, my marvelous thread is back.

Finished the campaign of Hyrule Warriors. Now, for those reading this that are not into musou games e.g.: about all of you, don't continue reading. Well, you can. I won't stop you.

This game is musou as ****. Well, no fucking shit duncefreak. But what else?

Well, not much. Obviously, I give credit where credit is due, and I must say that they did a fine job of introducing TLOZ to this kind of game. It's not half-assed at all. It's very charming, and fanservice as ****. This game is Fanservice: The Game. There's TLOZ shit everywhere.

I enjoy that though. If you do this, you might as well make it fanservice as ****. Hell, the entire idea of making a musou TLOZ game is nothing but fanservice at its core.

My point is, that they didn't half-ass this. Hell, I enjoy the boss fights. Using a newly acquired weapon to take them down is pretty cool, and the combat itself is fast enough to make it exciting. Uhm.. Stuff to say rambling. I haven't played much of Adventure Mode, but again, that mode just looks really well done.

Also, I was against this game when they first announced it. I felt Fire Emblem would be more appropriate. A lot of characters with a lot of weapons. While Hyrule Warriors doesn't have the typical DW cast of having so many characters it hurts, they all feel pretty unique, and they are worth upgrading for that. Kinda reminds me of Ninety Nine Nights in a way. Not a lot of characters, but they're very different.

I don't know. HW is pretty cool. I'm glad they didn't half-ass it. It feels genuine.

For a musou game.

Conflicted. Played a PS2 Dynasty Warriors game and thought it was dreadful and boring.

But a modern game of it's style should be a good deal better (right?) and I'd probably suffer through a lot of boring gameplay just for the Zelda fun and games... Hmmmz!

It's fucked if the very mediocre scoring Warriors games suddenly jump to AA status because of Zelda shininess though.

Also, the gloating sheep are totally justified, it's an AA exclusive so well done, but I WOULD like to point out that they're supposed to be ones hyping "gameplay uber alles!" and are tapdancing for an apparently very samey gameplay sequel :P

Somehow I assume that if this had been another Dynasty Warriors installment it would have gotten a 5 or 6 for "Does little to evolve the DW recipe".

I got the game, have played all mainline Dynasty Warriors and Zelda games.

They managed to incorporate Zelda tropes within the Dynasty Warriors structure really well, it doesn't feel forced and at the same time is its own thing since it's more than just a literal reskin. In a way it's still just Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda skin, meaning those who are not interested in either will probably not like it, but for those who are into it it's very well executed. The campaign (Legend mode) is really high quality and lasts 12 hours, there's much more variety than in the best DW game thanks to the rich Zelda universe. The story is also an excuse to jump from the Deku Tree, to Palace of Twilight and then Skyloft. As you'd expect the enemy types change accordingly based on the map, the enemy officers have unique patterns unlike DW where everyone is identical. The ReDead will freeze you in place, the fat moblins from SS will charge at you and poes throw orbs. The evade move is actually a counter attack mechanic than just sort of being there as in DW, the officers have tells and if you successfull dodge and counter you can perform critical hits. There's alot going on in the map itself compared to DW which is rather static nowadays, enemy forces quickly take over bases and spawn points on the other side of the map and stuff, keeping you on the edge of the seat. Basically, it's way more varied in every way compared to DW.

Whether you delve into the game's many other modes, crafting system, level up characters, grind for material, complete achievements, upgrade weapons, collect all heart containers and skulltulas depends on whether the DW gameplay clicks with you, but it's all there. The main campaign is highly recommended though.

So now people all of a suddenly like Musou games because they wrapped one in Zelda clothes?

I'm sorry but that's hypocritical bullshit. Every review I've read and everything I've seen says it plays exactly like a Musou game yet those are usually heavily criticized for simply being Mosou games.

It's Dynasty Warriors, but well executed and polished. It reached the heights of the best PS2 era DW games imo.

You have to remember Nintendo is the publisher and supervisor of this project, it's up to Nintendo to sufficiently fund and quality control it. Musou games are typically mediocre because they're being farmed out, not given proper resources. I guess it's the business model, fans will buy it anyway and an extra effort won't result in higher sales because the formula is niche, so the franchise remains in limbo.

@mehgat0n: Thanks for sharing. I like both Dynasty/Samurai Warrior games, and I like Zelda games, so I feel the blend of the two will go nicely together. Lucky you for getting your hands on it already. How does playing as the other characters feel?

Honestly it feels just like you'd expect from watching footage. When you see videos you build an idea in your mind of how it feels controling a character, that's it :P They translated it very well in game.

Impa feels heavy to control but her hits have a satisfying sense of impact, Fi feels light and unusual as she's more like dancing than fighting and Link is your typical fast paced character. I was surprised that secondary weapons like the Fire Rod were actually both viable and fun to use. They got the physics, weapon reach, animation and all that right.
