There is no being irked the right way.

I think Ninty realised they couldn't keep up with the HD race, or at least couldn't afford to after the GCN. So they went a different route, which is just as well because two consoles duking it out for the title of prettiest lil prom queen is enough.

I really don't think visuals and hardware are the problem with Nintendo's system.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no way implying that the Wii should've attempted to duke it out for first place in a "prettiness" competition. I think it was quite clever to release a weaker piece of hardware that instead focused on new and innovative gameplay methods. My problem is that, in the end, we got a system only slightly more advanced than the one selling for $50 in stores now.

Once Nintendo bowed out of the "spec competition" they realized they could release basically anything at a high price, regardless of whether the hardware was worth that value, as long as it could draw people in with something other than technical specs. So what is the customer left paying for? Access to the controller and its game library.

The Wii and the casual market go together very closely, because they're the ones most likely to buy a console for how fun it is at parties rather than its technical merits. But I just don't really like the idea of a system's price no longer being relevant to the value of its hardware. In the entire history of console wars, has a system ever been sold at such a high price for hardware so far behind the competition? Once the library has more AAA titles than the 360, I suppose I will find the Wii an easier pill to swallow.

I agree. I already suffered the Gamecube era, after months of waiting for the same games Nintendo's been spitting out all over again I got tired of it. I thought Nintendo was changing thing up, being "innovative". Turns out it's just the same old Nintendo.

I also sold my DS and Wii.

This isn't a confessional. I don't understand why you sold your DS. The Wii is not a great primary system, and really, I will never understand why people buy a system without doing research on the games first, to see if it's right for you.

I can understand falling for the hype of a game, but a system? Not the same deal considering the price difference and longevity.

Do any of you feel this way? I feel like i was suckered into believing the Wii was a real video gamers system. Was it the hype? Was it the rabid enthusism of of mis-guided nintendo fans. Was it the oddly persuading "Wii want to Play" commercials. I dont know. But no more for me. This fantasy has got to stop. I sold my Wii and DS today to purge myself of anything Nintendo. I just dont understand how anyone can stand behind and support this system. PS3 and 360 deserve gamers dollars, not this abomination called Wii. Videodogg

Ah I was going to say you could remove that feeling of shame by putting up a video of you smashing the system in with a sledge hammer but you already sold it...

The best games for the Wii are the ones that aren't hyped because they are totally new and diffrent... I can see why people might not like that, because it would require you to actually read about games that might at first glance seem unintresting.

For example the line up for this fall is great, (compared to last years) yet it's being hailed as lack luster... perhaps because it's all Third Party, and all new franchises?

I can understand selling the Wii, but why the DS... It's the best gameing device right now.

GundamGuy0

Stop with that nonsense.

Us gamers are NEVER to blame if game don't sell because we don't know about it. It is the developers responsibility that a game is well known with the gamers. I should not have to look at Japanese gaming sites to know anything about Fragile or Arc Rise Fantasia. If they expect me to buy their games they have to bring those games to me.

It has nothing to do with me being lazy, it is actually the developer that is lazy.

And NO the Wii line up is not great. De blob, Mushroom men and Wario Land: Shake it is not what I call a great line up.

I think you're an idiot if you expected anything more than what the Wii has given. What was the last Nintendo console didn't support itself solely from HQ first party titles (which the Wii has given you in spades... even a game of the year from one of its core titles)? Yeah, it was the SNES. People expecting more than what the Wii is doing basically ignored the last 15 years of Nintendo consoles and based everything off of the SNES.

Nintendo systems live and die by Nintendo games. Every blue moon they get a decent 3rd party game, but thats just how Nintendo systems work. If you won't be satisfied with:

Mario platformer, Zelda, Smash, Pikmin, Mario Kart, Mario Golf, etc then theres no reason to buy a Nintendo console and there hasn't been a real reason since the SNES. Nothing new here, just people living in fantasy land while ignoring the reality of Nintendo's history with home consoles.

Anyways, sell me your Wii for $150. Thats probably a hell of alot more than what Gamestop will pay you for it. For some reason, idiot gamers think Gamestop is god because they give you $20 for a game thats worth $60 and that they will sell for $55. Despite the fact that even a 4 year old can see that $20 is nowhere near $60 or $55.

The irony of the Wii being seen as a "cheap alternative" is that I picked up my (non-BC) PS3 on ebay for less than the cost of any Wii I saw there. I suppose in theory it's a cheaper alternative to the PS3, but not the 360 in any case and not the PS3 by much if you're willing to pick up something second-hand. Normally, the adage goes that you get what you pay for, but that's not the case with the Wii. You get much less than what you pay for, hardware-wise at least. And that's what irks me the wrong way about the system. I can live with playing games with below-average graphics, but I don't much like the idea of investing hundreds of dollars in over-priced hardware.

$250 is a lot of money. The Wii should've taken part in the HD revolution. Its specs should indeed be weaker than the 360 and PS3 at that price, but it shouldn't be so comparable to last-generation hardware. The truth is, looking back, the Gamecube was a great value for the money when it dropped to $99. It may not have had much third-party support, but the hardware was top-notch at that price. And the kind of prices people can get on that system now are amazing.

*sigh* I wish the Wii was a Gamecube add-on, like Sega CD/32X. People joke that the system is a Gamecube with waggle (which of course incites rage in sheep, who cite the many differences), but I would've loved it if that's how it was really done.

Itinerant_Voice
All i see here is a focus on how much the Wii is, how powerful the Wii is etc. One absolutely HUGE thing you're not talking about are the GAMES. In my opinion, this is the decider in something's worth. From the games i've played so far and seeing the games coming out sooner or later that are not available on other platforms - I'm glad i bought a Wii.

Why hate on wario land: shake? As a whole the wario land franchise has gotten some fantastic scores from gs and have at least imo been deserving of them. Who's to say there isn't a chance of that happening again? Well with the original development team anyway.

[QUOTE="kaangonultas"]ninteno used to be good but now they suck.nick31189
agreed

Yet they still made the top-rated game this generation and all of their games were of quality.
Why do they suck now? Because they are ALSO releasing casual games?
And if it's about the holiday season. Can't you all see that they are giving it away to the 3rd party's so that they can put some big games on Wii?
That's the only reason. Of course there are core games in development. Nintendo without it's core games wouldn't be Nintendo.
But since we haven't seen a trailer from those games I guess they don't exist.

Yeah, i got screwed at Gamespot, but cumulatively i got a little over $600 in store credit with the trade in ( i had lots of games ). So i pre-purchased in full 13 games that are comming out for ps3 and the 360 over the next 4 months; REAL GAMES like Fall Out 3, Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 , etc, etc. I dont know what you will be playing on the Wii this holiday season...but good luck to you, i want nothing to do with it.

Who said anything about gamers, and who said it wasn't the developers fault? The average person who plays games doesn't spend much time on the interent looking up info about games. It's the publishers fault that they aren't advertised correctly. Any Wii fan would tell you this.

I didn't say you were lazy, why so defensive?

Your opinion on the line up is noted. Sadly you don't speak for everyone... or even most people. I'm sure those game that you wouldn't call great, will get good ratings, and be highly enjoyable.

I don't understand sellign your Wii after E3 08... Nintendo underwelmed, but the third partys showed games that actually look good. Nothing new, mind you, but they released new information and videos that made games that I was meh about become less meh about.

If you think Wario Land: Shake is the only good game this fall for the Wii, then you either have very strict tastes in games, or need to branch out and try other games... you might be suprised.

No offense to Videiodogg but what a drama queen, Wii has SSBB, Zelda, MP3, SMG, SPM, MK, Animal Crossing, RE4, etc. It just seemed like you sold your Nintendo stuff not because you didn't like using it but because you thought it was a cool idea, I mean honestly get a grip. Again I'm not trying to offend anyone, just saying that someone is over reacting.

Sheep need to realize that using games like RE4 and Zelda Twilight Princess to defend Wii is just grasping at straws.
At least you didn't use Okami too.. But you probably just forgot..

No, parent bought a wii for themselves and I use it for the couple of games that are good on it. So no problem.

Edit: As far as the wii goes now I would NOT spend $250 on a machine that just plays games. I don't care how good they are. That is the main reason I stayed away from consoles for the longest time. I want more than just games, what happens when you run out of games to play? Buy more or let the system collect dust, when I beat a game on pc I mod it to hell and back haha.

No kidding. People treat E3 like it's the most important, fantastic, tell all business conference ever to exist! Tell you what all you people treat E3 like the end-all be-all, don't buy ANYTHING until after every E3. Let it run your entire gaming life and that way you can be happy and never disappointed.

Unlike the wii the DS get's it's fair share of good 3rd party games.

Selling it just becasue you have some sort of fanboyish vendetta agains't nintendo that you have to fulfill is just plain stupid.

Sheep need to realize that using games like RE4 and Zelda Twilight Princess to defend Wii is just grasping at straws.
At least you didn't use Okami too.. But you probably just forgot..

Cows and Lems use Multiplats... I don't see how that differs from a port by anything more then a difference in when they are released.

So you took TWO out if his eight and call it grasping at straws? Hey, it's his opinion. Those games are enhanced for the Wii, so it does apply in a way. Is it as strong as using SSBB, Mp3 , SMG, SPM , MK, AC , Mario sluggers or Strikers? No. But you didn't really counter his argument at all

Must I have had to say ( aka not exclusives) after I mentioned ports.
Guess I should have.

Those games are the very reason i got rid of it. The Wii has just been a complete shadow of the Gamecube; Mario Sunshine / Mario Galaxy, SSBM / SSMB, Mario Kart DD/ Mario Kart Wii, Zelda GC / Zelda Wii, Battalion Wars GC / Battalion Wars Wii, Mario Strikers GC / Mario Strikers Wii, Mario Baseball GC / Mario Sluggers Wii....NOTHING NEW. Nintendo is just stringing us all along. Then there is the horrible casual crap that just INFESTS the system from both first party and third party.....and the most bleak fall line-up for a system in history. You get my drift?

i feel cheated by nintendo, i watched the e3 of 2006 and felt the wii would be an amazing console, with zelda/metroid/red steel trailers up i thought i shouldnt miss it,

now only my girlfriend plays with it cooking mama and smooth moves.

i took it for my 1st nex gen console cause i didnt have enough money for ps3 (i have ps1 and ps2 )and i hate the xbox's ,i am not a fanboy i just hate it(japan fan)

i am thinking of selling the wii now and getting a ps3 when lbp is out(this is the only game that i am interested and ffxiii but thats a long way)

i am too disapointed from the wiis e3 this year ,the only game i am expecting is disaster and i have not seen enough footage yet,and tos2 . when i see that ^%$@^%@$% wii music /wii sport resort and animal crossing i am thinking ahhhh.......

still nintendo is the only company that set the price right here in greece 250e for wii the cheaper x360 costs 300e here and the cheaper ps3 450e!!!!!!!!!!if the ps3 price fells to 350 i will get sell my wii and get it right away

I can understand your point there. Nintendo is a victim of their own success in a way, because all of those you mentioned have been done before on a previous system of theirs.

It would be nice and cool if they focused on a few brand new games with new concepts/characters every year. I mean, they pump out alot now, but your right: its all what we've seen before, though improved.

I wish they would invest in more developers to both work on their previous franchises and brand new ones.

The other thing too is Nintendo is focused on very high quality, thus they take forever to get a game out. This doesn't help.

Nintendo has to give people what they expect - the past successful titles again improved (if they don't, then everyone would cry "Nintendo forgot their past! Wahhh!". But they need brand new ones as well.

It doesn't matter if it's apart of an existing franchise.

You're denying that SMG and SSBB are awesome games?

They are "ok" games, but they also feel like reruns from GC and even N64.

so SM64 has spherical worlds and gravity physics?

And they are more than just "ok"

He should think their great because they got high scores?

So you'd admit that Halo 3 is an awesome game just because it got 9.5 on this site?

The games out for it now are absolutely incredible. However, since they exhausted all of their best franchises in the first year, sadly we will not see much this year outside of Animal Crossing. However, by late 2009 I expect there to be alot of awesome games once again. (this is only speaking of first party games of course)

Halo 3 is an absolutely incredible game in my opinion, and is definitely a deserving 9.5.

Scores aren't just randomly assigned from a random number generator. Games are analyzed and a score is determined based on quality.

And yet the 360 gets fable 2, Halo 3, and a bunch of other sequels. if you don't like playing games from existing franchises then not a ton of first party games are for you.

Good to know, but isn't it kind of wrong that the sheep is pressuring that dude into saying saying SSBB and SMG are great just because they got 9.5?
