I never noticed that in Gears of War 2. Must have been too busy having fun to care about that.

Gears 2 doesnt have it "all over the place" but alot of great games do have screen tearing and texture pop in.

Uncharted and Gears of War both had minor texture pop-in. Not that I care, though. 2 awesome games.

Yeah, I know what you mean, it seems Square-Enix had some trouble with Unreal as the games they built using it are really flawed technically.

Texture popins in gears 2 occur only when a level starts, and I REALLY don't see how this brings down the experience of the game, unless every time you play gears 2 you stop after the first ten seconds... Try it longer next time lol

gears of war 2 does have that a lot. It gets annoying some times. I just hate how it has to first pop in all the textures before the timer starts the match when playing multiplayer....

yea the UE3 engine has alot of pop in. games like gears, mass effect, lost odyssey and a few other ones out there using the UE3 engine have it. Go have a drinks or something and go back :D and it will be gone. Only pop up during start of cut scene or beginning of level. Minor problems. The major problems with gears are the bugs in multi. I havent touch it for a while becuz i was getting impatient with the load times. I havent try it out since the updates, dont kno if there are any improvements. Otherwise, great SP game, but short :(

If you're going to be playing ANY UE3 engine-based game, you'd best get used to texture pop-in. That and an odd fixation on glisteny surfaces and bland coloring are the trademarks of the engine.

I don't see the big deal. Its not like its a really bad problem TBH.

I personally hate stuttering in games. It just ruins the game for me if it stutters alot.

I didn't notice any texture poppins, but that's maybe because I installed the game to the HD. I can see some pop-ins, though, when a new act loads up. It only lasts for 4 seconds, so...meh

It's usually UE3 games that have these problems. I think it's ridiculous that my freaking PC has texture pop-in in The Last Remnant. It doesn't ruin the game at all, but man, I have a great PC and it just feels weird. Bioshock on the other hand didn't have any. At least none that I noticed.

Nah, it's not bad in Gears 2. Only when you first start up the game, after that it is fine. Gears 1 on the other hand, that had a lot of texture pop in.

The textures don't Pop!

The Unreal engine does dynamic MIP mapping and rezies textures based on the where the user is to increase performance. Sometimes it just can't keep up.

The limitations of games.

In house game engines that don't get licnesed out will not use most of these techniques as they are tweaked for what game needs them. As the unreal Engine is used by many different companys with different game types they just put as many features in as possible to ensure there workload is less.

I see it the worst in the first Gears and Rainbow Six Vegas 1

yes gears 2 has pop-ins but you need to remember that it doesnt load much, you only load like once in an Act but in RE5 there is loading after every small area. also textures in gears 2 load up pretty quick too so its not that annoying

It's not horrible but it's there and there have been complaints about it.

You don't have to complain about other games to try and prove a point ya know.

I wouldn't call Gears2 a prime example. As I recall they did a sort of texture fade which was a lot easier on the eyes than actual pop-in. Installs helped a lot too, at least in my experience.

Gears 1 on the other hand had pretty bad pop-in.

Does anyone remember if Lost Odyssey uses UE3? I think it does, and in that game there is no texture pop-in, although that is probably just because there are more numerous loads.

Texture pop-in has been an issue with unreal engine games, but I dont think its enough to be a big deal. I really only notice/care about those kind of graphical issues is if they are abundant enough to distract from the game, Fallout 3 on PS3 comes to mind

The UE3s pop-in is VASTLY exaggerated. Seriously you might see it when you enter a new area, but after that, its just eye-candy
