And, also, since he said "This is Gamespot":

Gamespot's Greatest Games of all Time

Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World

I think we might need to get back on topic again before this ends up in another poo-fling fest. :?

I really can't put it in mouth-words on what makes this game so special. There's something about it, from watching vids of it in action, that fills a hole that many of us have longed to be filled.

I think the way Nintendo have presented this game to us has been great. No trailers. Just the raw stuff. Reminds me of how MS started their E3 06 conference... Gears of War. That's hype right there.

I really think a graphics comparison of this game to Sunshine would be redundant.

You've heard me say? Before I got into Xbox I was totally oblivious to anything other than Nintendo. I bought every game - SSBM, MP, MP2 Mario Sunshine, Zelda WW - I have also had 3 gameboys and a DS. I think I can legitimately say that those games are all getting very repettive. Uncle_Uzi

:|...

Owning a console doesn't hold much cred when you're defacing one game of being repetitve when almost all games are as well.

How, from any way you look at it, SMG is even considered as repetitve is quite remarkable. Now, if we were to talk about Halo 3...

[QUOTE="VendettaRed07"][QUOTE="Uncle_Uzi"]looks kinda repetitiveFirelore29

yes, cause walking across giant apples, fighting goombas, flying through a land full of lava... going from planet to planet, with massive robot spider bosses....is repetitive.

You could say the same about Mario Sunshine.

Your kidding right? ... Mario Sunshine was not repetitive. The game was great. 92% on Gamerankings.

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/533287.asp

In fact every major Mario game released have been great.

Exactly, mario sunshine was an excellent game.

Are people still spewing crap about mario sunshine? IN the short time i've actually posted on this board i've countered a number of people who claim mario sunshine was bad.. seriously, i wonder if people just skip my posts because i have a small post count?

Mario sunshine was an excellently made game. I'll say it again, just because you do not enjoy a game does not mean the game is not a well made game. But, i must wonder if this guy here has even played it.. or if he simply saw gamespots 8.0(overlooking the "great' lable, mind you) and thought that it MUST be crap.

anyways, i couldn't be more excited for mario galaxy. I have so many fond memories of mario's platformers throughout the years! I really do find it hard to believe that there are so many doubters and people who don't care. It's mario for crap sake!

It looks stupid and repetitive. And immature and unprovacotive. And boring and pointless. The list just goes on.

I remember Gears of War, Halo and any Mario Spinoff getting the same flak I've heard you say.

Many, if not all, games revolve on repetition of actions. Zelda WindWaker managed to get GOTY with aledged 'immature' styling. All games, at some point get boring and seem pointless.

Thank you once again, within such a small amount of text, bring forth how monotonous VGs can be.

You've heard me say? Before I got into Xbox I was totally oblivious to anything other than Nintendo. I bought every game - SSBM, MP, MP2 Mario Sunshine, Zelda WW - I have also had 3 gameboys and a DS. I think I can legitimately say that those games are all getting very repettive.

i fail to see how this game looks repetitive. i'de be amazed if you could find any game that uses the interplanetary game design this one does.

Indeed, Mario is one outstanding franchise. Sadly... people believe that SW = god that forms their opinions for them. I thought SMS was outstanding, but it lacked variety because every theme had to do with the sun. And it was really refreshing, but it's nothing like 8 completely different worlds.

Halo 3 will have a great amount of variety, if there's one thing that Bungie wanted to get across with Halo 3, it was that they wanted the player to have a TON of things to do.

And how the gameplay is varied: Different weapons make for much different playstyles, as do different vehicles, and the same can also be said for map sizes in MP and weapon/vehicles sets. Lots ofdifferent things make you play in lots of different ways. And beleive me, if there's one game that will still be actively played by 5,000,000+ people a year from now, you can bet it will be Halo 3 (or WoW for that matter).

You shouldn't have gone there.

You mean Smash Bros? :P

Just like Halo's gameplay differs from weapons and vehicles... Mario Galaxy's differs depending on what location your at, meanig ITS CONSTANTLY CHANGING. Where Halo is about shooting, different weapons is important. But Mario is about platforming and moving, so different environments is important... and this game delivers better than any game I have ever seen.

Correction: You shouldn't use such a word as repetitive in the eyes of such a game as SMG. I did state that the majority games are repetitive. How Halo 3 differs from it's previous iterations is not as much compard to SMG.

MOAR WEPPUNS!!!1! =/= Variety

Especially not when you're comparing it to a platformer with such spectacular gravity effects and unique environments as SMG.

The fact of the matter is that Mario has gotten stale.

No story, no motivation, no gameplay depth, and no true variety that dramtically changes the way you play the game.

When you say level variety: Wow, a lava stage! I can't touch the ground for too long. Wow, an Ice stage! The ground is slippery now! Wow, a water stage! I get to swim around looking for coins to keep me alive!

The only one that is close to true variation is the water world. The others are simple variations to basic mechanics that just make you have to try a little bit harder.

It seems to me that you just dont like platformers.

And what does your precious Halo have?

Wow! A new gun, now I can shoot faster. Wow! A new gun, now I'm slightly stronger. That's real original, eh?

Getting all the stars in Sunshine was the opposite of easy. Getting all of the stars was alot harder in Sunshine than it was in 64.

um... bee mario, boo mario, and others. Those COMPLETELY change how mario moves.

Movement is the key in Mario Galaxy. When the ground moves you have to compensate for that. When a small planet as little gravity, options are opened up for you. When Ice is there, you have to think about how you have to compensate for that.

Mario games are constantly evolving and changing as you play. Variety comes through how you think, not neccesarily how you control the game or how you play. If you think different weapons in Halo change the gameplay... then the stages are THE EXACT SAME concept for a platformer.

Dude, just admit you don't like Mario and never have.

Also, about Mario being stale, Mario Kart DS and New Super Mario Bros says Hi.
