its called "fun"
Whenever we hype a game here on system wars, we always look at graphics and say "OMGZ!!! The game looks AMAZING! GOTY!!!". When is the last game that we just said... "wow... it looks like a TON of fun!"
[QUOTE="Uncle_Uzi"]The fact of the matter is that Mario has gotten stale.
No story, no motivation, no gameplay depth, and no true variety that dramtically changes the way you play the game.
When you say level variety: Wow, a lava stage! I can't touch the ground for too long. Wow, an Ice stage! The ground is slippery now! Wow, a water stage! I get to swim around looking for coins to keep me alive!
The only one that is close to true variation is the water world. The others are simple variations to basic mechanics that just make you have to try a little bit harder.
sexy_chimp
And what does your precious Halo have?
Wow! A new gun, now I can shoot faster. Wow! A new gun, now I'm slightly stronger. That's real original, eh?
Do you understand how precisely tuned and balanced a game like Halo has to be for it to not be ripped apart BY ITS OWN FANS?!?!
In a game of Halo, depending on which two weapons you have, you've got to grasp hold of the fact that you must approach a situation differently than with another set of weapons. Certain guns force you to keep your distance, some guns make you want to stay at a moderate range, and others force you to fight point-blank face to face with the enemy. All force you to play VERY differently. Some analogs even force you to actively time up your shots and reloads.
The defining truth is this: what weapon you have will make you play differently. A sniper makes you think "what's my best and broadest angle?" where a shotgun makes you think "what's my fastest and most concealedway of getting close to the action?"
You can't win this one. I have proof on my side. You just blabble points with no evidence.
looks kinda repetitiveUncle_Uzi
I guess you have never played any of the other Mario Games? Since it looks exactly like them except on steroids.

very true
two years ago, i was drooling over oblivion pics, thinking it would be the best game ever
and now that i finally have it, i just can't get myself to play through it all....its gotten to the point where its kind of like a CHORE to play through
while mario galaxy may be technically inferior to oblivion, it looks much more fun to play

lol, no evidence.
The same can be said with a platformer and level design. You are CONSTANTLY thinking of how to approach a situation depending on the problem at hand. You don't just jump randomly and hope that you make it to your next destination. Make a response to my rebuttal against you earlier instead... it explains everything more.

I know what you mean. I did the same thing for Gears of War. I thought it would be the best 3rd person shooter, better than RE4. Played it, and I don't think there is anything truly special about the title. Its VERY solid, and fun to play... but RE4 did a much better job at keeping you in the game, and for a longer span of time as well.

Haha you are a joke. You are singing the praises of a dumbed down casual FPS series geared towards racist 14 year olds (of which i'm assuming you are one)
and you have the nerve to criticise the latest entry in the most popular videogame series, a game that is touted as a GOTY contender and looks to be the greatest platformer ever made with a host of new gameplay possiblilties.
This is why there should be an age limit for System Wars, little kids like you are ruining this place.

you mean like most every other title? Halo, Brawl, Call of Duty, and SEVERAL more. Mario Galaxy does a lot new... wait for the game to come out, you will see. Or, you could do more research on the game.
Getting all the stars in Sunshine was the opposite of easy. Getting all of the stars was alot harder in Sunshine than it was in 64.

Halo's gift to the shooter world was it's immense sense of balance in weaponry and ease of use when jumping between vehicles and foot. What was Mario's gift to the platformer world? (Not any sort of angry comment, answer me kindly please).
I think that Mario 64 just gave 3D platformers a formula of execution.

I assume many stopped reading at that point. EVERY game requires to have some balance. Halo isn't the only game that needs to be fine-tuned. Heck, SSBB requires more work on balance than it. Not to mention how hard it is to develop games that balance well. If their not, then you get games like Gundam, Hour of Victory, Big Rigs, Escape from Bug Island, Red Steel and Lair.

Overall, Mario has been a MUCH bigger influence than Halo. First of all, Mario basicallyINVENTED the platforming genre, Halo just refined a genre. Second of all, Mario was the first game to made successfully in 3D. Sorry, but your the reason everyone thinks Halo is overrated. You give it too much credit. Halo was good, and it evolutionized a genre. Look at that word, EVOLUTIONIZED, not REVOLUTIONIZED. Halo just took a basic FPS and made it a crapload better, while Mario created a genre and made the first good 3D game.

All mario titles (except sunshine) revolutionized the way we played games. Mario 64 single handedly started out the 3D world in gaming design. What games were there before Mario to base anything off of that had open worlds to freely roam around?

well, we responded... and after all of that, I don't think you even have an argument anymore.
It does look great. I have a bad feeling it going to be 8.5 here though... I wish it will be 9, ill get it anyway eventyally (need a smaller TV so I can get the full experiance).
One thing that does worry me is will this game be linear? It seems that way, like do you get to choose what planet you hop to? Or is there a set path.

I don't know...
My brother has a Wii, and he'll probably get it, so I will be able to play it, but I'm just not very excited for it.
I never really liked Mario64 either though; just a matter of taste. The only thing I'm looking forward to playing on his Wii is Smash Bros. But I'm still hoping for online play.

After lurking in this topic and reading the entire debate between you and others it's quite obvious to me that you'll never change your mind either.
Someone said something about your precious Halo and you couldn't stand it. Why? What is so great about Halo? I've played both of them and they really are not anything special. They are solid FPS games, but I can easily think of a few that are better (Half-Life 1 and 2 really come to mind). You've been angrily talking down to everyone in this thread who has spoken ill of Halo and yet you haven't given any evidence that will shut them up. Trust me, I'm familiar with the guys you are debating with...you can change their mind, but you have to be able to back up your argument to do so.
However, your posts keep making less and less sense and reek of a person who is losing both his temper and his patience. You really are starting to seem like the typical X-Box Live lovin' Halo zealot who screams obscenities when things don't go their way.
You want to change theirminds? Present a well thought out argument that proves that Halo is more important to gaming than Mario has ever been.
looks kinda repetitiveUncle_Uzi
Dude you are the biggest lemming. i find it funny that you happen to like all the games on 360 and hate all the games on anything else.
lol, now you're just taking cheap shots, and I'm 16 BTW. Is your post a metaphor to the fact that you can't accept me being argumental in my approach?

Wow!!! 16!!!!!
ZOMG, thanks for pointing out what games are kiddy and what aren't to us adults. We sure do appreciate it. We were also incrediblly impressed by your use of big words!!!! (despite the fact they were used out of context).
My post isn't a metaphor for anything (i don't see how you could miscontstrue it as such). I am merely pointing out that little kids who started playing games in the last decade dont know *** all about what is kiddy or what is good and I dont appreciate being lectured on the quality of an upcoming game by someone who lives with this parents.
This game does not look stupid or repetitive . You are a child who has no concept of what ismature and what isn't and the fact that it is not "provocative" is neither here nor there. Next time think before you post and you wont get owned so badly
