[QUOTE="Nintendo_Ownes7"]

[QUOTE="LordXelNaga"]The problem lies in balance. EA still have traditional titles gracing their release schedule (ie Crysis and the like) whereas this kind of extremely casual has seemingly become the absolute focus of Nintendo, this point is compounded considering that this is the hardware manufacturer and the fact that there is a lot of tripe already on that particular console.Marth6781

You Seriously think that Nintendo is mainly focusing on Casuals.

Casual games by Nintendo

  • Wii Sports
  • Wii Play
  • Wii Fit
  • Big Brain Academy
  • Warioware
  • Mario Party 8

Core games by Nintendo

  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Mario Strikers Charged
  • Super Paper Mario
  • Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
  • Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

That is very Balanced IMO and for 2008 they have more Core games then Casual games announced so far.

Funny thing is he's still forgetting "core" games, seriously nintendo cares more about "us" than you think.

I forgot all of the core games but I just wanted that list to be even and I remembered all of the Casual games because fanboys always throw those in our face because that is all they focus on.

Because these guys think that "Hey! If I play guitar hero and rockband I can be cool and popular like other people who play music and maybe I can have friends!"

Because Wii fit is just a stupid board that can sense your balance. That's cool. People will get in shape in no time.

The only thing wrong with your arugment is that drums/guitars attract teens and young adults, a fitness balance board attracts moms and old people (more than the aforementioned age group)

The biggest problem to me with Wii Fit is that it's marketing itself. It's basically saying, "buy this and you will get in better shape."

The fact is, Wii Fit is hardly an activity which will help shed the pounds. It's far too low of intensity (based off all the videos) to be considered serious exercise. Most of the activities are based around balance which has little to no relation with getting in shape (either building muscle or losing fat). Furthermore, it uses BMI, which again, has little relation to actual health. A person in very good shape has a high BMI as well as a very fat person. What really matters to people losing weight isn't BMI or even their weight, but their bodyfat percentage. Just an example.

A man weighs 200lbs. In the beginning, before he starts his exercise program, he has 15% bodyfat. After 10 weeks of exercising/good diet, he still weighs 200lbs but is at 10% bodyfat. Most people just look at the scale and get discouraged, but the fact is he dropped 10lbs of fat and put on 10lbs of muscle. He should be proud!

So really, I consider Wii Fit to be like something a snakeoil salesman would sell. It may help in a minor way, but it's marketed as something that gets people into shape....and it won't.

but here's what i don't get, the fact that the guy lost some fat means he lost some weight as well, but his muscle probably brought the scale to 200lbs correct?

but what if he didn't grow muscle?

Maybe my dislike of Wii Fit is because I don't really understand it. Its a plastic board you balance on. I can't imagine anyone paying over $10 for this device. People make the argument, "This is exercise! How can you hate it, its good for you!" but to me it seems like a half-ass attempt at best. Its a plastic board you balance on.

It feels more like testing the peripherials market. "Plastic guitars went over well, and now we have plastic guns, drums and steering wheels. What else can we get them to buy?" At best it just seems like a new way for people to enjoy collections of minigames under the premise of fitness.

Its not necessarily bad, its just too... Apple for me.

Corvin

You do realize that it has sensors, scales, figures out if your standing straight, where you're shifting your weight to. Saying that it's like "A plastic board that you balance on" is like saying that a T.V. is a "Piece of glass that you look at".

You're thinking of fit in the wrong way. It improves stamina and balance. You could say that Yoga, or Pilates aren't exercise, but they are. It helps improve muscle tone and stamina.

My only problem with Wii fit is it is trying to pass itself off as execise and it really isn't. It's a balance board. At least Guitar Hero and Rock Band don't tell you that you will become a rock star when you play those games. It's pretty much understood that it's a GAME. They are trying to pass Wii fit off as something other than a game and it isn't.

*Pretending* to be in a band aplaussed by a virtual audiance for matching storkes/hits wtih little symbols is apperently cool, whereas something actually useful like helping people become fit or at least some sort of motivation to start doing so is "lame".

wouldnt be my prefered method, but daym, you have to be immature to pride games like GH3 above this, both could be fun to different people.

Becuz Wii Fit is stupid, how could it be fun, its a gimmick

[QUOTE="GunSmith1_basic"][QUOTE="doobie1975"]how strong is the wiifit balance board, will the US one be reinforcednyoroism
that is a real concern. Like most things out of nintendo, or even sony, they are made for the japanese market. There is only a 300 lbs limit . Kind of cruel if you want to get fit, huh?

If you weigh over 300lbs. I don't think Wii Fit should be your first choice to weight loss.

I don't think WiiFit should be anyones choice for weight loss.

It really isn't a weight loss tool it can help you by tracking your progress everytime you stand on the Balance board it adjusts to your progress, because it keeps track of your BMI (Body Mass Index)

Why not spend the money on going to a gym? See Rock Band gives you the feel of playing the guitar/drums, but costs less.

I know, but it gives the feel, and the drums? If I want to do push ups, I'll do push ups, and not spend £40 on a white plastic pad.

My problem isn't so much with Wii Fit the concept as it is what Wii Fit represents; the direction Nintendo is now going with their games. I mean, is it just me, or does Nintendo seem to be putting much more emphasis on things like Wii Sports, Wii fit, and Big Brain than they are serious games like Metroid and Super Smash Brothers these days? Rock Band comes from a developer who has a reputation for making great rythm games. Wii Fit comes from a developer with a reputation for making some of the greatest platformer and adventure games of all time.

I guess using a guitar controller is super hardcore awesomeness and a wiimote or balance board is just a kiddy gimmickGunSmith1_basic

Completely different games, one is a rythym-based game in the same vein as the awesome PaRappa the Rapper and Space Channel 5, the other is a ridiculous gimmick that is based on balancing on a piece of plastic with empty promises of getting 'Fit'.

Walking to the bus stop is probably more effective for weight loss than WiiFit will ever be.
