For everything considered, you're a lot touchier than you should be. I'm not the one crying mate. It seems this subject touches you more than other topics, because you certainly aren't like this in any other thread. I'm the one that's ready to move on to Tabula Rasa or Age of Conan or try something new with an open mind. I'm sure the WoWers however will go to those forums, post "Disappointed. Got to level 10, found it boring. Uninstalled it on the same day". You want proof? I can give you proof if you wish.
And my fabled MMO vets? You really want to take it that far? I can show you proof but honestly I really can't be bothered because everytime I show proof to some WoW addict they ignore it and start flaming. It's stupid.
Wait, how about you go onto all the other MMOs you play, and you ask them what's been the best. You said UO, I'm guessing you've tried Vanguard, CoX etc. Perhaps you still have LOTRO. Ask anyone there on the general channel. You'll see I'm not fabricating anything.
WoW is accessible. That's why it has 9 million players. That's why your dentist plays it, your friend's mother plays it etc. I'm very sure if I mentioned Halo is better than Half Life or ArmA since it's more popular you would answer that it's because it's casual trash.

WoW merely improved on the tried and true formula. That's it. Here's the final quote if you don't want to read the article because you're afraid of what it might say:
"I think WoW has a broader appeal and will prove to be the more popular of the two games. If you prefer solo play or you want to PvP, it's the obvious choice. As enchanting as the artistry is, not everyone will go for the cartoony look.
EQ2 has greater depth and a number of new features that are a credit to the genre, as well as an outstanding graphics engine. While the pace is a bit slower than WoW, it has some novel group dynamics that should engage even the most experienced RPGers"Aboutdotcom
That was when both games came out. EQ2 didn't have PvP then, and I don't think WoW had the amazing PvP it has now. Both are considered to be equal now, since EQ2 was changed to accomodate more solo, but of course, WoW is more popular because it had that head start in terms of accessibility.
Incorrect. The major thing that is new about WoW and LOTRO (Yes, even LOTRO) is that the developers actually put time into making the game entertaining. Just about every MMO game before that was just AIM with graphics and a monthly fee, offering a stale gameplay model with little innovation, improvements, refinements, etc. We've come a long way since MUD.Redmanx12
Somehow I don't believe you've played every MMO since UO now. That was just......wow.
The least you could have done to make me believe you was go on Wikipedia, read up on Star Wars Galaxies, and find out that one of its drawbacks was that it was overly ambitious and buggy, refraining it from being polished. Does WoW have player built cities? Did it have a completely player-run economy?
It says for your information on that site: "Reviews criticized it for the complexity of the game". And you laugh at me for saying WoW's not deep. It is, but that's if you haven't played some other MMOs.
A lot of the WoW community is rubbish. It's not just a few. Now, with 9 million players, I hope you don't get all skeptical that I have friends that play WoW. Every day I get a bizarre story: "Hey dude, this girl is showing RL pics of her private bits for gold. Cyber prostitution FTL!". You do realize that the WoW community is mainly made up of 6th graders? How do I know? Apart almost all my friends playing it, there is a reason some people say LOTRO is boring, or the art ****sucks. No -- EQ2's art ****sucks and is uninspired. WoW is OTT. LOTRO is like Halo -- it's subtle. Sorry for some kids that they didn't get any l337 armour at level 12 and fire swords.
You're probably not an MMO vet unless you're at least 30, have kids, been playing it for years (not just starting UO in 2004), and have tried the free ones to the monthly subscription ones. I don't think you're that, and neither am I (which is why I like LOTROs community a little more, as they're not obnoxious people my age). What I can say however, is that, unlike most of my peers, I haven't been sucked into WoW and only WoW to a point where I can't think of anything better but that game.
Now, if you've seen the recent comments regarding the "Wrath of the Lich King" on GS, you would see people complaining about it. Those hardcore WoW players who are slightly annoyed. Yeah -- you get some of them moving over to other MMOs too.
Now, resist the urge to make witty comments and actually progress the argument, rather than resorting to obvious insults.
On another topic, has anyone tried Age of Conan beta? Is it any good?
