Look MMORPG haters, watch the entire Lick King fight, its more epic than anything you could shove into an RTS:

http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=144411

then watch the cutscene after to get the story:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hCvrHbI6_k

try emulating that kind of content in an RTS, Warcraft IV is never going to happen.

In conclusion with this thread we can deduce there are two groups of people in Warcraft lore: the ones that don't accept the changed made in WoW and the story continued till the end of TFT (I'm in this group) and the group that is glad with the changes Blizzard made and want more lore with the next WoW expansions.

Sigh,I still don't see why the battle with Arthas in WoW is so epic. I would have preferred you get your own army and perhaps some allies (Thrall, Sylvanas, Jaina, I don't know, anyone), invade the scourge bases with perhaps Kel'Thuzad and Anub'Arak as the Lich King allies for annoy a little like Vash and Kael did in the last mission of TFT.

For me, it has less to do with not liking WoW, but more with the fact that I've never played it. Still I don't like some of the stuff I read about WoW's lore.

No, but i had the idea that the whole situation would get a conclusion in WC4.

I can only hope that the new RTS WC will continue the story when TFT left.

[QUOTE="ithilgore2006"]Maybe you should actually play WoW. You act like the lore in WoW simply doesn't exist, or it's told in footnotes. Yeah, he's been off'd, but he got a full expansion and nearly two years of content dedicated to it. He got a terrific send-off, just because it was in WoW and not in an RTS doesn't make it a "betrayal". Stop being so melodramatic. Also, I'm sorry but the majority of the Warcraft fanbase plays WoW, whether you like it or not, so why wouldn't they continue the Warcraft story in WoW? Should it stand still until they make another RTS? Now Illidan, they dropped the ball on that, and Blizzard have admitted the screwed up and apologized, but not this one. They did this one right. And there's also a very weird, rather naive set of people who hate the ending solely because he dies. What the hell? Not because they disliked the story, or the manner, but apparently if the character dies, that means it's a bad ending. I don't think they understand anything about storytelling or character arcs.Miroku32
How come some random travelers can kill the boss, the leader, the god of the Scourge? Not even Illidan, Uther, Sylvanas could defeat him and that was before Arthas transformed into the Lich King. And that Tirion, from where did he appear? I don't remember him appear in any Warcraft game in the past.

If you actually even bothered to watch a video of it you would know they didn't. The battle ends when Arthas is done "testing" the raid, and he one shots all of them dead with the intention to raise them again as deathknights. While he's busy gloating about how awesome he is that uber paladin sneaks up and cheap shots him.

I was pretty deep in World of Warcraft in their vanilla days but Burning Crusades and further expansions killed the game for me. Warcraft 3 is one of my all-time favorite RTS games and it sucks to hear of this spoiler. I've always wanted WC4, more so than Dawn of War's next installment but I wouldn't go as far as wanting it more than SC2. Still, it would have been undoubtedly epic. Too bad, I guess. :(

The only thing I don't understand is why they think Ner'zhul won't corrupt Bolvar.

Because Ner'zhul corrupted Arthas through Frostmourne, but Frostmourne lies shattered. Don't ask me how can somebody follow that logic, but there it goes.

The story has been continued. If there is a WC4, it will continue from where WoW eventually leaves off/ It hasn't stood still since WC 3, it's moved on, and with the end of Arthas's story the last of the loose ends from WC3 are tied up, and the next expansion is an all new story, not following directly from anything in the RTS (Deathwing's return and destruction of most of Azeroth).

Because both Ner'zul and Arthas are gone. When they fused both "died" and became the Lich King.

The Lich King is not the most powerful being in the universe.... he is ranked significantly behind Sargeras and presumably there are other Titans more powerful than the Lich King. All the Lich King is is a fusion of the most powerful Death Knight, Arthas, and an extremely powerful Lich empowered by Kil'Jaeden. He is possibly the most powerful being currently in Azeroth, but obviously Deathwing is more powerful or he wouldn't be the title boss for the next expansion...lol. You're going to get substantially more powerful and yet Deathwing will provide a much greater challenge than Arthas. And Cho'gall and so forth....lots of new, powerful bosses to pwn. Arthas was killed because he was a bad dude and a good premise for a WoW expansion. Get over it. I did too. The fact of the matter is you're gonna have to subscribe to WoW and grind out some levels if you want to experience the content. I wasn't happy about it, but I'm enjoying at least some aspects of WoW regardless. In the meantime, enjoy Starcraft 2....

If you tried to prove me wrong you just failed, yea sre CGI would of been better, but as the outdated RTS approach shows, CGI breaks immersion from the game, especially one that is suppose to be a persistent world. And you totally skipped the point, RTS battles would of made the Lich King fight look crap, what would you do? just build loads of heavy units and circle him and watch him die within 20 seconds. Compared to hat 15minute long fight complete with everything from an overwhelming ammount of extra enemies, destructable enviroments, being sucked into the sword frostmourn and having to kill your way out, a list of devastating attacks, and you all actually die to him even if you win. an RTS would never ever have had a better battle than this, RTS are flawed in story telling through thier gameplay, which is why starcraft IIs enphasis drifted towards rendered real time cutscenes as apposed to cheesey ingame dialogue. MMORPG was perfect for the lich kings demise. 25 fragile players that couldnt make a mistake, if one dies he ressurects them as an enemy..... lowering your chances signifigantly. CGI openings in WoW are great, and yes a CGI ending for each expansion would be great aswell, but not needed.

WoW has lore and if you didn't find it, you clearly don't have very good reading comprehension. To those who say "well how is there lore when arthas is being downed 10x a day" well what do you expect? One person to have the experience of killing a fundamental character? Get real. WoW has been far better than anything post WC2.

i want WCIV. WC3 was epic and the best game ever made imo. I hope they decide to refresh the story back to end of frozen throne. They could still using the main elements like drenai as new race for example. But there is no way the main character could be raided by none names, that would be fail³.

Really? I allways tought it was like this : Kil'jeaden destroys Ner'zhul's body, takes his spirit and makes him into the Lich King (Ner'zhul's spirit inside the Helm of Domination ( I think it is called like that)). NZ throws Frostmourne out of the throne in hope Arthas will find it. He does, climbs TFT, takes the helm and now Arthas' spirit is sharing his body with Ner'zhul's spirit. Arthas was then dreaming on TFT and he banished his humanity along with Ner'zhul. Arthas became the dominant spirit. When he was killed Ner'zhul's spirit returned to the helm and Bolvar put it on, and became the new Lich King. I also have one question. It says that without the LK the scourge will destroy Azeroth, so... I'm wondering, why couldn't it destroy Azeroth with it's master?

It's very much story based.

yet somehow i managed to play it without even knowing there was a story.

most of the game revolves around collecting boar tusks to get a rusty sword. I dont consider that story based.

I guess people don't read :P

It's actually the future of video game design. People generally skip cutscenes, but more and more developers are looking at ways to make you feel more engaged in the story without spoonfeeding it to you. Left 4 dead 2 is a prime example. Just by playing all the campaigns you get to grasp events that have occured without the game telling you what's happened in a cutscene.

It's intuitive and keeps the game interesting.

You clearly miss the point, is not about Arthas being dead, is about how i feel is unfair for Blizzard to resolve the entire plot in WC3 in a completely different type of game.
