They made combat too easy.
They should have made combat terrible and clumsy like the other MGS games so you would have to be sneaky (which is more fun than shooting)
But other than that it was a fine game with well directed cutscenes.
Over rated to the sky and back.CreepyBaconcare to explain why? Yeah i wouldn't say best game ever, but it's definitely a great title that deserves regonition. IMO it deserved GOTY more than any other game last year.

Ask him if he thinks Gears or Halo is overrated.
Then you may find an answer.
I was unaware of the fact that being "like a movie" was actually a good thing for a video game.
I feel that developers should actually try to take advantage of the video game medium for story-telling purposes, as the developers of Planescape: Torment and Deus Ex did, rather than copy the conventions of other media.
I very much preferred both of the aforementioned games, in pretty much all aspects-including story-over MGS4, along with most other games ever made.
[QUOTE="CreepyBacon"]Over rated to the sky and back.Animal-MotherLike gears and halo? When people say "Best Game This Gen! By Faar", the statement "overrated" seems justified.
[QUOTE="Synthetic_NinJI"]Didn't like the game but to each his own.sillarisGOTY MGS4 has the best story of any game ever... keep hating That...wasn't hating.

[QUOTE="Synthetic_NinJI"]Didn't like the game but to each his own.sillarisGOTY MGS4 has the best story of any game ever... keep hating Hating? No, I spent my hard earned money on MGS4, so I'm authorized to "Hate" ( ) As a person who has military experience it just did alot things wrong like calling a 6 year Special Operation Forces Veteran a "Rookie" That is not even proper military jargon let alone just.....stupid. I gave it this, it is the most well written piece of crap I have seen my life.
I usually can respect a developers vision for the art that they're creating, but MGS4 was a game that failed to impress me in almost every single way. There's games like ICO, SOTC, Okami, and so many others that truly present a masterpiece of artistic integrity -- and while not all of these games impress me in the gameplay department, I can atleast see the vision they had for them and created around them. MGS4 didn't impress me in even that sense. While a lot of the cutscenes were done very well -- MGS4 provided a mildly amusing playthrough, but not anything I'd say as "the best game ever". It disappointed too much to earn that title, imo.
Planescape: Torment, Deux Ex, System Shock 2, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts, and so many other titles would come well ahead of Kojima's latest title for me.

I wouldn't call the story good, but dense.
It's an over used plot used in movies, books and vidya games.
However, Kojima goes really in depth and over complicates everything.
The only thing somewhat original in MGS is the characters, but even then they are just renamed and slightly tweaked characters from various action movies and animes.
The thing that saves it is how well it's presented.
I'm not hating either, I am a fan of MGS, however i'm not a fanboy.

I definitely agree, but too many people hype Halo and Gears to the sky and back, MGS is nowhere near by far the Best game this gen, but its highly up there

how's that hating? you fanboys sure get touchy easily

[QUOTE="Synthetic_NinJI"][QUOTE="sillaris"] o so all those awards the game won means nothing? keep on hatingsillarisYes, IN MY OPINION THEY MEAN NOTHING TO ME. Only tools, like yourself, follow another persons opinion because you capacity to think for yourself. I'm done with you, I don't argue with fanboys. to call the story " well written piece of crap"... whos the major fanboy? when people who pass the game say its one of the best storys ever. but its a Piece of crap to you? hmmmm yes ok
Nobody but fanboys thought that the plot was the best.
It was written in the standard kojima style.
A standard action story with some humor and a few crazy characters.
Thast your OPINION but it seems theres nothing wrong with MGS4, the problem is that you just don't know how to appreciate a superb game;) What did you not like about it?

Or he's capable of appreciating superb games, but MGS4 simply wasn't one?Don't speak in absolutes like that.
_______________
I didn't think it was a superb game. I didn't even think it was a great game. I simply thought it was a decent game-I've played many, many games that took advantage of the medium far better than MGS4 (or any MGS game, for that matter), and, as a result, I didn't find it to be anything special. At the same time, I can see what other people appreciate in it, but, quite frankly, I have no idea of why they would appreciate what I think they would appreciate.
also, a lot of the things that happen towards the end seem very... i dont know whats the word for it but it seemed like they were trying too hard. like they just wanted to add more and more plot twists. so many plot twists in fact that a lot of what happens towards the end is just not believable. i found my self goin "are you SERIOUS?! REALLY?! REALLY?!"
this is also my problem with mgs2. 2 and 4's stories come off as a big load of BS. 4 to a lesser degree than 2 but still.
that is why 1 and 3 are the better mgs titles in terms of narrative. 4 for gameplay and SOME good narrative.

Everyone else says different, but you guys are entitled to your ill made opinions. Also don't tell me how to talk, got it;) Your opinions are in the minority for a reason, MGS4 was a spectacular game

Indeed. All art is subjective. I see people trashing Super Mario Galaxy all the time, yet it's the second highest rated games of all-time according to GameRankings.
