Over rated to the sky and back.Juggernaut140Like gears and halo? I don't seem to remember Halo and Gears being called the greatest games of all time plus the constant spam of LOL U LEMZ NEVR GET THIS GOOD GAME threads. Now to single out cows, but that is quite annoying. I almost felt like MGS4 is such a great game, for fanboys to use it as flame bait so often, it almost gives "MGS4" a bad name. The game is incredible, but for all the people who bash other users if they dont think it's the greatest game ever, that's quite annoying. On the other hand, I think there are people who bash the game excessively because of it. So it's a never ending cycle. Wish people could just say MGS4 is a "quality" (quality meaning well received critically, being a polished game, and selling well) title and move on with it, on both sides. For example, I really dont care a whole lot for Oblivion, as a matter of fact I hate the game, but I can still admit it's quality.
I usually can respect a developers vision for the art that they're creating, but MGS4 was a game that failed to impress me in almost every single way. There's games like ICO, SOTC, Okami, and so many others that truly present a masterpiece of artistic integrity -- and while not all of these games impress me in the gameplay department, I can atleast see the vision they had for them and created around them. MGS4 didn't impress me in even that sense. While a lot of the cutscenes were done very well -- MGS4 provided a mildly amusing playthrough, but not anything I'd say as "the best game ever". It disappointed too much to earn that title, imo.
Planescape: Torment, Deux Ex, System Shock 2, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts, and so many other titles would come well ahead of Kojima's latest title for me.

Thast your OPINION but it seems theres nothing wrong with MGS4, the problem is that you just don't know how to appreciate a superb game;) What did you not like about it?
oh no he's got a different opinion from my own, clearly he has some kind of a mental problem
Good storytelling and good story are too different things. You need to read more books if you think MGS4's story was stellar...Blue-SkyYou don't need to read books to know that MGS 4 story was bad, just read a Marvel comic book.

o so all those awards the game won means nothing? keep on hatingsillarisYes, IN MY OPINION THEY MEAN NOTHING TO ME. Only tools, like yourself, follow another persons opinion because you capacity to think for yourself. I'm done with you, I don't argue with fanboys. to call the story " well written piece of crap"... whos the major fanboy? when people who pass the game say its one of the best storys ever. but its a Piece of crap to you? hmmmm yes ok I've played and completed it. It might be a great video game story, but in no way can anyone consider it one of the best stories ever.

I personally was not able to get much further than 10-15 minute, non-interactive intro. To each their own so if you are pateint enough to sit through that ten my hat goes off to you. When you get to be my age though, your patience starts to wane so a game like MSG4 might not sit with me well when the thing I want to do most when playing a videogame is PLAY. I do not feel I am really qualified to speak on its story so I won't go there in depth, but it must be said that points have to be taken off of the series when the title and the history do not match up. The perfect example of this is MGS3.
Please explain to me how the game can be titled MGS3 and the story is supposed to pre-date Metal Gear NES. Even a jerk like George Lucas had enough sense to chronologically name his Star Wars flicks correctly (Episode 1-6). Resident Evil eben got it right with RE0. For god's sake, even a game most of you despis, Pefect Dark Zero, got it right. How come with all the talen and imagination that Team Kojima posseses, a tiny little detail like that was able to slip through the cracks?
This is why MGS4 is extremly overrated. lol I guess true games are only games like pong, no cinematics, no music, no story, just pure gameplay. Am I right?whole game felt like a movie

I beat MGS4 in around 23 hours, only about half of that was cinematics, it's still just as long if not longer then the avergae game this gen in the gameplay departement. Stop hating.

This is why MGS4 is extremly overrated. sinseerslol I guess true games are only games like pong, no cinematics, no music, no story, just pure gameplay. Thank you. MGS4 is a good game, but didn't deserved to be scored 10/10. Why? 1- That game was more a movie than a game 2- No many Lasting appeal. The online is bad. Im not qualified to hate on MGS4 because I have not played through it. All I am qualified to say is that I had an extremely hard time getting pulled into the game due to that longer than usual non-interactive intro. But I'm at an age where now I do prefer to just jump in and play. My earlier statement wasn't specifically about MGS4 gameplay length (I.E. total hours of gameplay versus other games total hours) , but if what you said earlier is true about "only about half of that was cinematics," then that holds weight with my "We TRUE GAMERS, as you put it, just want more gameplay than cinematics within our game." statement. Now I could be wrong, but I'm not sure videogames were meant to have 50:50 gameplay to cinematic ratio. I expect to be able to play way more than I watch. In short, let me put it where the goats can get it. I don't really care how long the game experience is (23 hours, 23 days whatever), but what I do want is to play more than I watch. That is as plain as I can put it.I loved the game pretty good title except for the lame ending IMOjasonharris48
Everything was so well done... but the wedding scene was so corny and cheesy. I hated that part.
As for the rest of the game, I think it's one of the best games I've ever played.
This is why MGS4 is extremly overrated. Everybody should of figured that much before playing the title. Come on now an MGS title better yet a Hideo Kojima game. Hideo Kojima game + MGS title + 50 gig Blu ray disc = Metal Gear Solid 4whole game felt like a movie
Over rated to the sky and back.MasteRichWe're talking about MGS4, not Halo 3 =Dyeah and mgs4 is by far the most overrated game this gen by far bar none at least people still play halo 3 while mgs4 is on shelves all over the world collecting dust

Its just redundant and sometimes retarded, like using solidus body parts to construct big bosses body, despite Eve crying when the remains of Solidus were burned in Act 3
And of course retarded plot devices like Drebin ugh...

Please people, it doesn't matter WHAT game you pick, there will always be people who wouldn't considered it, "The best game this gen", due to one and one thing only: Opinions.
My opinion may not be the same as yours, but a majority of people who played through MGS4 say it was the best game they played this gen, and I would have to agree thus far. While you might not agree with this, it doesn't change the fact that a whole lot of people do. Overrated? Not at all. The game deserves all the hype it gets. If it isn't your cup of tea, your loss I guess. Maybe the majority who didn't care for MGS4 should play 1-3 first. It might make things a little easier to understand, but I assumed that was just common sense.
