I listen i have dropped my 360 about 3 times before...works fine....but i spray out the insides electronics with compressed air

bought in 2006, the only thing im worried about is the dvd rom drive breaking...ever since i dropped it the laser makes alot of noise reading stuff now..like it knocked it off track kinda or make it loose.

actually the drive is fine...just sounds terrible first starting the 360 you can hear the laser move to different spot to read the disk.

I also got an Elite unit with the E-74 bug, but I turned it off and waited for a week, and it went away (Then promply sold it to a friend for half price). Anyways, I have noticed this keeps happening about one year from when I get a new one. What blows is this particular model is a HALO model, so I don't want M$ to screw the pooch on returning it.

The question is, are you guys noticing a pattern with RROD? I have a few buddies that are saying that they believe that RROD may go away, but get replaced by other issues (E- series problems. I have also read that it comes down to Heat, and the reduced nano sized transistors aren't going to prevent the heat like we expect.

When I got this model, I really thought the problem was nearly gone (After all, I have had RROD twice before), and I thought that the HALO model would somehow be immune.

Anyone have any cooling suggestions that have been EFFECTIVE? It's the heat, it warps the Board.

To answer some questions that may arise :

I keep all of my system's really clean, and dust free.

I have it in a well ventilated area.

I game on PS3 and Wii as well, so the 360 gets breaks from gaming.

I never leave it on overnight (Although I did that by accident with the PS3 one night, I fell asleep in the livingroom).

I never move it, for transport, it stay on a glass shelf.

I also have another 360, which takes time away from this one, giving it further breaks.

Sure you been cleaning the exhaust fans with canned air/heatsinks?

Yeah, I'm a BIG believer in Canned air, for at least a decade. I have like 4 cans right now. I do know that HEAT rather than DUST, is what causes RROD, as the BOARD actually warps over time, and there isn't much we can do. It's an actual design flaw.

Of course, not everyone's going to suffer my fate, and I have heard of Worse stories, so I'm glad for that!

Dust causes heat.....it's like putting cloth over the electronics doesnt let them breath/ventilate properly.

yeah this issue needs to dissapear. I had 2 RRoDs on my launch console. They send me a brand new (read: different) model this time. It's more quiet than the previous consoles I had. I hope it's gone now.

Since you also live in Holland, can I ask you how long you had to wait until you got it back?

Thanks! Bought my 60GB version only a month ago and it's working fine (for now) but I just wanted to know what to expect.

See the 2 heatsinks? and the white shroud? when you blow compressed/canned air through the back of the console the shroud helps force the air through the heatsink fins and make the dust fly off them.

best way to clean the console.

[QUOTE="SnakePS360Gamer"]Considering how unbiased you are and some of the pro-360 posts i've seen from you. I believe you But you're gonna get harassedSolidTy

Well, I've seen some posters claiming it was GONE, and I was happy, as I wanted to believe that. Then, wham, XMAS Season 2008 is ruined.

Every Xmas season, this happens. GeoW 2006, Halo 3 2007, and now GeoW2/Fable 2 2008.

Anyone that hasn't got hit by this, you are very fortunate.

I was talking to a M$ rep on the phone, but he was from India or something, and it was taking like 20 mnutes, so I let him know I will call tomorrow, because I had to go. What a process.

Also, PROTIP, save your HDD, don't send it to M$. Also, M$ realizes guys, that you will be OFFLINE for 3-6 weeks (About a month), so they give that month back in XBOX LIVE.

Did you just say they outsource to India? OMG that is an outrage to be honest, they should have dedicated phone lines in each repective country for such a widespread and well documented issue. I sorted my brothers 360 for him and sent it in when it RROD but I did the entire process online luckily, if I can avoid phone calls I will .

If you notice microsoft has started putting heatpipe added to the xbox360 gpu xenos heatsink.

the reason for red ring of death....the heatsink is not really sufficient for how hot the ati gpu runs...and when you let dust collect and block the shroud vent holes it can no longer pull cool air over top of the heatsink and it fries.

people dont seem to be very knownledgeable about this stuff.

Just save your money and don't get a 360... then your problem will disappear.

No problem. :) Note that this is just my experience with RRoD though. I heard it takes 4 weeks tops to get it back. Mine happened to be a little faster.
