I finally bought the game , waiting it out, till a fellow gamer wanted to sell it for 1200pesos(about $25).

Besides just watching demos, on/offscreen pics of uncharted, it looks totally cool, but playing it(haven't finished it yet), and seeing all the vibrant and lush environment, i'm gonna have to say Gears1/2 looks better than the game.

Though personally, i like uncharted more, as a whole, and i'm definitely getting the sequel.

Could anyone point out again how iyo, uncharted looks better than gears?

P.S.

Please, no "Killzone2/Crysis craps on both."

Pictures/Videos that are "legit" would be gladly appreciated.

Please avoid pics that are too ZOOMED in, that these pics hardly clarify how the game looks in motion.

I found Uncharted's graphics to be much more appealing to look at than Gears and Gears 2. I think i liked the environments more, they felt fuller and more detailed...

Yes, they actually are a lot more appealling, and i do think the overall gameplay in Uncharted is better than Gears, but i'm just sayin', imo, Gears looks half a mile better than Uncharted.

If I take two pictures of each game and hold them up infront of two different people and they each choose a different one....wich one of them is wrong? ...wait for it. Neither of them, because they have what we call opinions and outright stating one is better than the other in this case without any physical proof is just silly, and this thread has nothing but alot of opinion in it.

Woah, slow down Jynxzor, i wouldn't have started a thread about the topic if i didn't have an opinion in the first place.

Whereas there were TONS of threads about the same topic in the past, i agreed(blatantly basing my opinion on vidz and pics) that uncharted looks better than gears. Now, i actually have the game, i think otherwise.

Could you at least point on something that could debunk my opinion?

Wether I personally like either game isn't the problem here, your doing nothing but batting back and forth opinions, that gets everyone nowhere. I give you, you at least said you thought gears had lush enviroments but verbal context just doesnt paint a very clear picture. If you could describe the areas that you find show the lush enviroment people coming into this thread have more information to draw from and form a rebutal or agree. If you really want my Personal opinion I find Uncharted still etches out gears two in the enviroments. The submarine you encounter was sublime and really was a good showcase of what the game could do.

True but it set a new benchmark for video games to beat, I love to see a game that sets the bar high in one way or another. Final Fantasy Tactics set the bar for Turn based RPG's for me and I have yet to see something top it, disgea comes close and has an amazing story but Tactics "The original" nailed the genre. Resident Evil set the standard for what a Survival Horror game was all about, and even now they can reinvent the genre to whatever they want as much as I dislike the new TPS "Horror" game if you can classify it as such. Final Fantasy continues to raise the bar technically and systematically with every iteration of the series. Okami was such a beatifull game artistically and let us know you don't need to be the most powerfull game/system to be beatifull. ICO made one of the best games ever with Shadow of the Collosus and I can't wait to see what they have up there sleeve now.

Well obviously Gears 2 looks better. But gears 1? no FREAKIN way. Gear 1, besides the textures is a muddy and ugly game. Uncharted not only shows more level of detail and matches it overall concerning environmental textures, but it's a more sharper and vivid game. You only have to compared the real-time cut scenes and massive jungle environments. Uncharted also excels in facial animations, animation in general and lip syncing. Playing Uncharted is like wiping your arse with silk, sooo SMOOTH, baby.

Gears has better effects with gore and explosions and all that, but that's pretty much it.

Uncharted has sharper textures, more colors, and some pretty extreme attention to detail. Seriously, you can see the detail in almost every leaf, and the water effects on drake are simply unmatched. Not to mention the time and effort that naughty dog put into the animation really shows.

In that first cave, when everything is collapsing around you... that's simply nuts, and I haven't seen one game do that better.

I was hoping someone would bring this up. Having just played and beat Gears 2 recently, I have one question for people who think its graphics king/amazing graphics:

Whats up with the lighting? The only things that have shadows are people. Everything else just has dark colored rocks underneath it. I thought Gears 2 was super amazing at first. But the more I played it, the less impressed I became. The textures are godly, thats about it.

According to this guys comparisons, Uncharted 1 actually holds up more impressive level of details in its character models, compared to Gears 2. Epic use a lot of shortcuts to achieve a great look, if you actually zoom up the character models they become ugly, while Uncharted still looks incredibly good. Take a look. http://kineticninja.blogspot.com/2009/01/naughty-dog-realtime-graphics-and.html Shots have been zoomed in to compared the level of detail. Of course some will say those are ugly and BS screens of Gears 2, but have you acutally zoomed in on a character to judge ?. Using a ghost cam in online is a great way to tell. Of course, you won't see this when playing it on your set because it all viewed from a distance. That being said, I still think Gears 2 overall visually, looks more impressive, even if technically doesn't hold up as well.

Gears 2 has just way too much inconsistent lighting. It relies too heavily on motion blur, bloom, and detailed textrues to hide some of the bump mapping that makes ups for the lack of polygons, which is still very good because it is taking advantage of the 360 hardware.

The problem, like others have stated, is that when you look closely... you can seen some of the shortcomings just mentioned. Also, when it is in motion, you'll easily notice the different angles of the bump-mapping and textures.

Uncharted, on the other hand, has exceptional models, environments, and lighting. And, like MGS4, doesn't rely too heavily on detailed textures and bump-mapping to produce an actual 3d item. For example, in Gears, a lot of the soldiers ammo packs are just straight up extensions of their bodies... and the engine cleverly uses bump-mapping and textures to make the ammo pack look separate from the body... when it actually just is an extension.

gj comparing a fps to an open world...and better yet a fps thats main attraction seems to be its graphics to something on a console. was i wrong? games that are the same genre should look better the later they're released.

Depends how well the developers add that emotional or sad level, MGS4 is a great example of how one should be told, thanks to the master mind Hideo Kojima. Epic just forced it, because they thought that's what makes a good story (after seeing MGS4), it does...they just have no clue in making one. Then again Gears doesn't suit it, it should stick to the cheesy macho man BS, IMO. I actually digged the first games story, it was simple and just more isolated. Gears 2 made you care more about the characters tho, which was needed.

It's because character models in Gears 2 are much more detailed, but because of that..i think Epic sacrificed some of the environmental textures, Gears 1 overall has more of those great textures through out the game, from what i can tell. It's how games improve, Halo 1 pushed more poly's than the 2nd game..but its because of better optimisation/tools and neat tricks, the game apears better looking. You can only push a console so far until it chokes.

What was emotional about MGS4, Eyez?

*rollseyes* What was so emotional? Solid Snake, his life his story, his battles, what he has been through, MGS games have always had those emotional situations, and IMO, they work...because they're done right. It's thanks to such well made characters, that it just comes a long. While some think its cheesy, it adds much more depth, when telling a story. Like a movie. As for MGS4, Snake last mission, suffering from an illness and meeting his long lost dad, its an awesome experience to watch, if you're really into the MGS universe. You have to be a fan to appreciate it.

well in the general,i consider the overall "look" of gears to be boring, and the feel as well.its looks very gray, bullets flyin all over, and lots of "oh s**t",its been seen before.now uncharted has a new "wilderness" feel about it,not to mention it looks very real and lush.lots of natural looking colors, and hollywood/indiana jones style cutscenes. Really cool. They both play really similarly, but uncharted feels/looks new.

so uncharted is the better looking game imo,=]

You must feel special. Not everyone will fancy it. I think it also has a lot to do with how well the cut scenes are done and story told for the majority of us. You must have atleast felt something when Snake and Ocelot were going at one another before the actual final fight. Or are you too cool to admit it?

Relax a little. Don't take it personally. No, I don't feel special, neither do I think I'm cool. Just that MGS4's story and moments were, by far, the worst of any MGS. A lot of them almost being ridiculous.

Good 2 know. You almost sounded like a hater, but i know you simply don't fancy it enough compared to the previous instalments, i can respect that. You certainly aren't the first. MGS4 can be seen as OVER the top, i see it..but like it. It doesn't have to be totally realistic or make much sense, but if it looks good and told right, it's a winner in my EYEZ. To each there own. What about the story in general, besides the emotional parts....did you enjoy it or find it remotely interesting?

You can't debunk an opinion... as it's your opinion, IMO i think uncharted looks better due to colours used, the setting as in environments, the character of drake over the character of marcus, the whole idea of treasure hunting over the idea of war with aliens/mutant people persons.

Uncharted looks better IMO. It has crisper textures for the most part, superior lighting, more detailed environments, superior water effects, superior animations and all of that with no loading or install!

Gears 2 looked great except for some textures here and there. You quickly realize how heavy that game relies on its textures and all the features that come with those textures.

[QUOTE="Slambo86"]Depends how well the developers add that emotional or sad level, MGS4 is a great example of how one should be told, thanks to the master mind Hideo Kojima. Epic just forced it, because they thought that's what makes a good story (after seeing MGS4), it does...they just have no clue in making one. Then again Gears doesn't suit it, it should stick to the cheesy macho man BS, IMO. I actually digged the first games story, it was simple and just more isolated. Gears 2 made you care more about the characters tho, which was needed.IronBass
What was emotional about MGS4, Eyez?

WHAT? I nearly cried several times.

[QUOTE="IronBass"][QUOTE="Slambo86"] As for MGS4, Snake last mission, suffering from an illness and meeting his long lost dad, its an awesome experience to watch, if you're really into the MGS universe. You have to be a fan to appreciate it.Slambo86
I'm a fan of MGS, but I found most of the so called "emotional moments" of MGS4 lame at best.

You must feel special. Not everyone will fancy it. I think it also has a lot to do with how well the cut scenes are done and story told for the majority of us. You must have atleast felt something when Snake and Ocelot were going at one another before the actual final fight. Or are you too cool to admit it?

Before I played MGS4 I replayed every metal gear game. Playing 4 was an incredibly emotional experience for me. The culmination of everything Kojima has created up to this point in the MGS universe. Extremely satisfying and an over all moving game. IMHO. If your not invested in the characters...you simply will not care. Too bad for those who don't care.
